Bus to Kilmelford, walk coast road to Melfort Village, and ascent like doigi from near power station, beside pipe, past caves, and up over grass and dead bracken to summit. Mild and sunny spring day, light cloud. View hazy (but that might be partly due to my incipient cataract.) Back down past caves and along upper section of pipe, then straight on past picnic table and down path beyond it to reach Melfort Village close to power station. Coast road to Kilmelford for bus to Oban.mainnirnamfiadh22/03/2022
Climbed from Melfort Village up path to left hand side of power station water pipe to caves. Headed east along track for 200m.free ranged to top through braken which was low in winter. Easy climb to top. Great view of lochmelfort.doigi26/12/2021
11th and final Tump of 11 on a 23.7km circular from Kilmelford climbing Ceann Mor, Druim an Fhaillich, Creag Bealach a' Chrois, Cruach Fearna SW top, Cruach Fearna, Druim Barr na Coille, then I explored Creag Nan Cuilean (est. p25) Cruach na Cabaig, Cnoc Cul nan Uamh, Cnoc nan Larach-cloiche Nw top and Cnoc nan Larach-cloiche descending South on a forest ride then a wild descent SE on a burn cutting a glen that descends to the Oude Dam where I picked up a forest track, following this all the way to NM84146 15110 and onto the ridge leading to the attractive bluebell crowned knoll. I recorded the top as being NM 84062 14810 but only recorded 136m in height! I descended on a rough route so that I could explore the Cave, then followed the Hydro pipe South, cutting across Ese, descending to follow the beautiful River Oude for a while before heading across to follow a track that leads to the A816 and down into Kilmelford. 1317m of cum.ascent.Dazingdale14/05/2019
Took track through Magazine Wood behind the walled gardens. I was attempting to follow a circular route (clockwise around the hill) detailed in the Melfort Village walks leaflet (available from the shop for £1), but recent felling and very high bracken meant I couldn't work out the description. However a clear path takes you onto the south ridge of the hill, but there was then 20 or 30m of horrendous clearfell and very high bracken to cross. Even after that the ground was very steep with head height bracken. The bracken completely surrounds the summit so probably best to attemp this one outside bracken season. I descended north, cut down west then followed the small valley north to the forest track (a bit overgrown but doable). The track leads to the hydro pipe and from there it is easy walking down the adjacent path which leads into Melfort Village.callumblack07/08/2018
From the restaurant at the holiday cottage centre. Easy to start with but progressively harder. Missed a crucial turning so got waylaid amongst fallen trees until locating the hydro-electric pipe, besides which a small track runs. Followed this around the summit before embarking through head-high bracken to the top. Just back from trekking in the Amazon - this was more brutal! wish i'd brought the machete back.summitter01/07/2018
From SSW, parked by bridge, track to noisy HEP plant, track NE then super-steep slope. Then to Ceann Mor with its trig bolt, nice late-eve 2-tump circuit.RHW10/06/2015
