Bus along A85 to Muckairn Castle road end. Along approach road past new building work and then three intimidating signs. About 100m after bridge under railway, up rightwards on rough LRT to gate about 981329. Much new fencing, though without barbed wire. New gates, but easily opened and closed. Northwards through open woodland with occasional faint FPs to gate about 980331, rightwards on estate road to gate about 980332, then eastwards over rough grass and bracken (some faint FPs) to summit in trees. Wall-to-wall sunshine, little wind, little view because of the trees. Back to gate about 980332, leftwards on estate road down to castle approach road and back to A85, then life-in-hands walk along trunk road to Taynuilt for bus to Oban. | mainnirnamfiadh | 29/11/2019 |
Interesting exploration of the bluebell woods of this hills various knolls with firm metal vehicle barring metal barrier to a castle and immediate unfriendly signs, which after the third one had me composing slightly humorous detailed scenarios of fictional potential confrontation with landed gentry and then future court appearance for trespass and damage to bluebells and tree saplings. The talk on the way back in my head was amusing me so much talking to the judge that I hadn't realised that I'd gone a whole half kilometre off route to the east from the track under the railway line and over a bridge across the river. Ended up walking back along the railway still amused by the whole story I was composing and listening out for the rare trains. I'll enjoy writing up the story sometime. | vegibagger | 26/05/2018 |
2nd tump of 5 on a 14km route from Taynuilt to Connel with my large rucksack, climbing to Airds Park then over to this one, visiting all knolls vying for summit attention. I recorded 68m @NM 98766 32975, this is the knoll within the 60m contour ring due West of Airds Park, continuing to the summit area, recording 71m @ NM 98421 33084, 69m @ NM 98383 33059 and 70m @ NM 98412 33123. I continued Nw to another knoll and recorded 72m @NM 98281 33208 and 71m @ NM 98263 33213, although this one seemed the highest! I headed West to drop onto the lane from Muckairn Castle that heads South under the railway briefly exploring a waterfall before heading across country Wnw towards Ardnaskie Hill.... | Dazingdale | 05/05/2018 |
