Tide too high on first attempt. Came back after Cnoc Dhomhnuill, what a difference an hour makes! | tim747 | 23/03/2023 |
Ferry from Seil to Luing, up Cnoc Dhomhnuill first then along road and over to Torsa at low tide via the slippery causeway. Went around to the eat of Torsa Beag, but returned over it. Headed along track before heading uphill. Cattle near top but were not a problem. HP not far from wall. Just over an hour to get back to get ferry over to Seil. | PeterD | 18/06/2022 |
I'd noticed in the 'Oban Times' the previous Thursday that a local farmer had built up the causeway to improve the crossing for his beasts, and decided I could now cross and be sure of keeping my feet dry. A spring tide was due on October 8th, which was a further incentive. The causeway is at NM 755125, accessed by the track north from the Ardinamir road. After crossing I took the green track eastwards across Torsa Beag, then crossed the beach to the east with water in middle only an inch or so deep, picked up the track up to and past Torsa House, then up just east of northwards over close-cropped grass to the summit. The substantial dry-stane dike just south of the top has a handy gap a hundred or two metres to the west. Sunny but with a noticeable breeze. Excellent views. While descending I met the farmer himself with a shooting party on Torsa Beag and thanked him for making my visit easier, especially as he'd had some stick for improving the causeway. | mainnirnamfiadh | 05/10/2021 |

10island tumps on 8 islands with Duncan of Farsian cruises. First island with cattle near summit. | cjo | 20/07/2019 |
Kayak from Arduaine, after Shuna. Tides from all directions in the triangle between Luing, Torsa and Seil! | AndyS | 02/05/2019 |
Dropped off at S end of Luing by Farsain Cruises. With Darren Giddings, Adrian Rayner and Charles Everett. Walked the length of the island picking up all the tumps. Crossed to Torsa Beag spot on low tide. Crossed back 1hr after low tide to find a foot of water racing through the channel SW to NE. Crossing from Torsa BEag to Torsa presented no problems. An obvious HP almost 40m NE of the OS spot. | jonglew | 17/05/2018 |
Fabulous sunny day walk up island of Luing with Jon Glew, Darren Giddins, & Adrian Rayner. Five TuMPs plus tidal island Eilean Torsa.. Fifth tump plus delayed return so wet feet as riding ride poured over the causeway from SE to NW | vegibagger | 17/05/2018 |
5th tump of 10 today, the 1st 6 with Charles Everett, Jon Glew and Adrian Rayner as we traversed Luing from the Southern tip, courtesy of a Farsain cruises drop off using dinghy and thanks to Mervyn who had booked the boat for the day. We visited Aird Luing, Leccamore, Binnein Furachail and Dubh Leathad, dropping onto lane, heading North then veering off on track towards Ardinamir, veering off North towards Torsa to cross tidal strip separating it with Torsa Beag, having walked 12.6km. We profiled around Southern edge of Torsa Beag then North before crossing scattered rocky tidal inlet onto Torsa, heading first SE before heading direct for the top, recording 68m @ NM 76145 13224 and a further 60m NE of this- 69m @ NM 76186 13276. Return via Torsa Beag high point, recording 37m @ NM 75606 12607. Re-crossing back onto Luing via 1.5m of incoming tide so I donned my sandals. We headed over to Cnoc Dhomhnuill... | Dazingdale | 17/05/2018 |
Several grassy hummocks, one with cairn which we decided was the HP, ie not the one aligned to the OS SH. Easy ascent over sheep pasture once tidal causeway crossed. Just dry at LW -1. Weak sun and open views. Possible to park at end of track to south then go N along beach to causeway. | Denise | 19/04/2018 |
And again on 20-07-2019, with Farsain Cruises landing on its NE side. | RichardM | 19/04/2018 |
I crossed the channel, as Ken did, but it wasn't a spring tide so it never cleared fully. The wade was two feet deep through fast flowing water and just a touch fraught. the return found it down to one foot depth but I'd doubt that it went any lower. Main island easy pasture, Torsa Beag considerably rougher | Colin Crawford | 13/04/2017 |
Crossed from Luing at low spring tide no problem. | chalky1953 | 31/08/2015 |
Farsain Cruises, group charter. Stormy day! Landed NE side; the Dun a fine feature. 1:50k summit contouring wrong. | RHW | 06/06/2015 |
