Started from my accommodation at crumble cottage cut straight across the field to it up the steep sided slope calf’s were burning from the previous few days. Rough boggy ground as expected | The-Z-Man | 26/03/2024 |
From beach parking, along road then path to lochan. Up to summit and straight down N, onto road near track junction and bins. | Minto | 10/04/2022 |
Walked along road from the accomm at Colonsay house, cut up across the rough just before the church (NR 3773 9576), and took a reasonably direct line to Binnein Riabhach; on to Beinn Bhreac and the intervening MacPhies inbetween before getting to here. A 10k round. | jonglew | 13/09/2021 |
Up from track to SW, through gap in wall then straight to top. | NormanW | 26/08/2021 |
From Beinn Bhreac on sheep tracks down towards the loch. Better track near the N end of the loch, then over a stile and continued on track up towards the summit. Good views. Descended towards the loch to a stile at NR38922 97328, then a cow track to an old stile and gap in the wall at NR38801 97040. Continued on cow tracks to meet the track from the S end of the loch, and back along the road to the car at Upper Kilchattan. | LizH | 18/05/2021 |
Day 1 of Rob and my Macfies round leaving the northern Macfies for Day 2. Sunny, windy, and great viz. Tough heathery hills and difficult nav. | alexmaclennan | 29/08/2020 |
From CP above SW of Kiloran Bay. Tarmac track towards Uragaig, took footpath signed to Loch, then up steep grassy ramps, over fence above crags, and up NE ridge to summit, returning by gate below the cluster of cottages, which can be reached relatively easily through the gorse and rhododendrons. Superb views of Kiloran and Loch Sgoltaire. | Nick Down1 | 22/04/2019 |
Fairly easy ascent from west end of loch to interesting cairn, which does indeed resemble a ruin from a distance. I then made the error of descending to the north east, finding myself entrapped in appalling vegetation - long grass, bracken and rhododendron. not the way to go and it was a relief to emerge on the road at Kiloran Bay | Colin Crawford | 27/07/2018 |
1st tump of 9 on a 19.8km Northern loop from the Backpackerss lodge including all Machphies en-route, from the B8086 taking a steady Nne line over Beinn Bhuidhe to climb to the Summit Cairns (that I thought were the remains of some slate shelter). Watched an amazing aerial display on top by two Sea Eagles before a descent to Kiloran bay via deciduous jungle and thick brambles, visiting the Natural stone arch and sea caves and scrambling on the basalt rocks before walking the breadth of the beach to checkout the Beached Fin Whale, now displaying its Baleen with noxious decomposition to boot. Onwards to Cnoc Inebri before carrying on to Carn Eoin in really strong winds... | Dazingdale | 09/05/2018 |
After Beinn Bhreac. More or less straight up and down from north end of Loch an Sgoltaire, over grass and heather with occasional tracks. Complex cairn at top gives impression from a distance of a ruined building. Panoramic but hazy views of north end of island. Down track from Loch an Sgoltaire to join road near Uragaig for return to Scalasaig. Given lift from end of B8086 by a real gentleman (local) who had been coming north but retraced his route for me. | mainnirnamfiadh | 27/09/2016 |
Walking tour of centre of island w Jenx, not hard to find way, some tussocky grass but on whole easy going in dry conditions. | nordicstar | 23/08/2015 |
Tump 3 of 5, with chalky and AlexC. After Beinn Bheag. NE side generally bad vegetation; NE ridge clear, but bog & tussock higher up. Alex caught us at summit having done Eoin while we did Bheag. He can move a bit! | RHW | 11/06/2015 |
