Cycled to the field path then a walk up and down the field edge.Pilotralph 25/07/2021
Right place, right time to stand and stare in awe at about a hundred clacking geese in noisy flight morphing around the sky somehow sorting themselves out to form their wondedrful V shape formations.A memorising sight - 'what is this world so full of care if we have no time to stand and stare'. All the birds except the first fly in the upwash from one of the wingtip vortices of the bird ahead. Research suggests each bird can achieve a reduction of induced drag and as a result increase their range by 71%. These were just a few of the @20,000 pink footed geese that have just arrived here from Greenland or Iceland for the winter, which according to the RSPB roost on the nearby Ythan Estuary and as now fly to stubble fields in the day to forage for spilt seeds. Can't find out anything about the substantial cemented 'pepper pot' cairn on summit, despite being worthy of 2 signposts to it from road to east.Chris Pearson01/10/2019
