Finally got round to doing true summit having previously only done the Poo (point of origin) faint path through high bracken, whins etc leads around rim of quarry to reach high point. Not very pleasant but nice view over the quarry at one point where the perimeter fence has been knocked down. | Jossker | 23/07/2022 |
Fourth Tump on a cycle from the Cabin Equestrian Centre. First cairn I've ever cycled up, courtesy of the spirals path. Left the bike, and traverserd d the granite boulders of death death arete, and fought my way through the forest of deadly gorse and broom to the other high point. And back again. Lovely cycle back down. | Minto | 22/04/2022 |
From the small parking area to the south, visited both areas. | robertphillips | 03/02/2022 |
Both tops on a glorious day during lockdown. | dave g | 25/04/2020 |
A 300 foot deep quarry- now flooded- but once world famous for its beautiful hard biotite granite (grey and white flecks) and used in many famous buildings: London Cenotaph, Tower Bridge, Thames Embankment, Forth Road Bridge (pillars), Various buildings on Princes Street, Edinburgh. An unusual hill in that the highest point (but not the hb summit) is the boulder sided flat topped pyramid / viewpoint with both steps and a conical path up it - built to celebrate the quarries proud history - (good historical photos online of cranes and bondin wires -invented here to lift out the blocks). The lower HB summit reached via Dave's rough path around the rim -which includes crossing a fun mini 'arete' of granite boulders. HB summit is also man made - but fully vegetated -broom and grass. An interesting spot of former industrious activity and pride. Hill also known as Paradise Hill. I walked here from school after the stampede to leave by kids and staff alike on the Friday home time bell. | Chris Pearson | 10/01/2020 |
From car park to the south at 7367 1635. Two tops, the artificial boulder cairn top at 7372 1671 feels higher. From there an overgrown rough path along the quarry edge leads to the natural top, just west of the field boundary in among broom bushes. | Dave McG | 09/09/2019 |
