Walked up with L from the sea at Mail after visiting the small beach and cemetery. Area of extensive systematic peat removal at top of track -a huge area has has been scraped bare - I think a relic from the 1980s when although peat use for heating & cooking was declining (due to oil, gas & electricity) those still using it were less inclined to dig it themselves- and machinery could strip it commercially in large quantities. Nowadays the value of peat as a carbon sink are championed as with the peat restoration funding on Shetland -but too late for this bald patch.Chris Pearson02/05/2021
ACW circuit of Scroo, Holm Field & Royl Field, starting from Peat Quarry 4144 2960). Track to quarry is a bit rough - would not have taken my car (Jazz), but OK in Dave's 4WD. Windy grey day, but tops clear - nice circuit.ger12/06/2019
Solo. From car park at church at Flanderstown. After ascending Royl Field Returned over Holm Field and Scroo. Only one fence to get over this way and that very easily.pwbellarby11/06/2019
