The whole area has been clear felled, what a mess. Managed to find the old firebreaks which helped to get closer then a case of pick my way over the hagAndrew Simmons05/02/2023
A 5 tump round after driving in on forestry roads from middlegill 1/5 up from the track to the north visited all 4 areas.robertphillips18/09/2022

Parked NT 0203 0389. Mapped break not viable due to windthrow; entered forest at NT 0160 0359, followed break to NT 0176 0345, then made for wall to SSW. Followed the wall for 1.07km over the four 400m contours. Excellent ridge walk with the high point approx 10m north of the wall on a definite rise in the ground.jonglew13/11/2020

Same route as colin crawford. Progress generally easier in trees rather than fire breakscjo03/08/2018
From bridge at Kinnelhead, along track then north into trees. Fairly open and mature but windthrow is a problem. I joined the wall and followed it over the quartet of 400m contours. Deep snow in the firebreaks was a nuisanceColin Crawford08/03/2018
Large P area on road to S. Followed forest road to N and W of summit. Through short section of trees then followed firebreak to wall and onto summit.chrisbien11/09/2017
9th hill of 10 on an arduous but epic alternative Southern upland Way route from Sanquhar to Moffat, climbing Dalpedder hill, Cairn hill, Black hill, Penbane, Durisdeer hill, Ballencleuch Law, Rodger Law and Whiteside hill, entering the forest to follow the burn but had to divert to edge of forest due to fallen trees Followed fence that went over summit (my gps unit recorded three places recording 410m). I eventually reached the Southern upland Way that i followed all the way to Moffat.Dazingdale02/05/2016
