1st hill of 13 today on two separate loops from Barr village, this the 1st of 8, using road then track just past Alton Albany farm to White Knowes then fp that links up again to track then forest ride SE of the hill requiring 5 mins of squeezing past lichen-draped Larches in order to access the summit clearing; summit in open ground, bilberry/heather/sphagnum moss with single tree close by. Continued NE to wide open ride. Next hill: Caurn Hill (via Fell Hill) | Dazingdale | 12/05/2017 |
The track from Barr got me reasonably close, after which the deep mud along a new pylon line was a sore trial. Vehicle ruts follow the fence to the east then up to the summit, full of wet snow today. the summit area is clear of trees, apart from one singleton just to the west of the high point | Colin Crawford | 09/02/2017 |
