From the track to the West, looks like the trig has been sat on a huge cairn. | DavieRuts | 16/11/2023 |
From A849 along track to Killean and Gualachaolish, up and down hill, and back same way. Good viewpoint and interesting ruins. Impressive amount of fairly substantial stone walls but no sign of where the stone came from? Track currently bone dry. | daviemore | 10/06/2023 |
Clear dry day, walked group up from Loch Spelve. Not too wet underfoot (for a change). Saw large herd of red deer. | Heather TS | 21/04/2023 |

From the NE parked on the grass verge. | robertphillips | 08/05/2022 |
On path from Auchnacraig via stile over deer fence, then directly up northern slopes. | Winterfloodian | 05/05/2022 |
Heather. Last hill day of holiday. | garbo1103 | 03/03/2022 |
Route as per Gill. Start of path is opposite side of road from white Auchnacraig Lodge sign. Parked north of steep hill at edge of disused old cattle grid. Baggers' triple summertime nightmare - lots of clegs, ferns and lots of ticks. | willyross | 21/07/2021 |
A nice walk from Auchnacraig on the Grasspoint road. Parking next to the locked farm gate. All other gates locked or private. Start of path hard to find, W of Auchnacraig entrance, past a steep bank with a wooden fence at its top, just before the trees. Keep high when the stony slightly overgrown path ends by a wooden path marker, across a grassy bank then grassy path through bracken to hit the very badly situated stile over the deer fence. Down next to fence to join the main path. This goes up to the col between Carn Ban and Meall Reamhar, generally very good except a few places where faint or overgrown. Easy to climb Carn Ban from the col. Pleasant and interesting route, good views, path could do with more traffic to make sure it survives. | Gill | 14/07/2020 |
From the NE. Space for a car just before the steep climb in the road approx 734303. Through gate and a boggy section before reaching drier ground and an old track which took me to the 150m contour. Then over rougher ground to the summit. Pleased I went this way rather than the boggy track used by others. Great viewpoint in calm sunny weather at the end of a tough day (3 Graham's in very strong winds with hail and snow). | PGCE | 23/02/2020 |
Via the trade route. | Chris Peart | 10/11/2019 |
My 5th Marilyn of the day so quite tired and didn't enjoy the waterlogged path. Also approach to hill is over rough terrain, but a great view from the trig, not a vanessa as the other two are on this stretch of coast. | NormanW | 08/08/2019 |
With Dave Roeder. Start 15:50. Walked along track from main road (fortunately reasonably dry) to sharp right bend and then up and across trackless tussocky plateau to summit. Back more directly down to track and back to car (18:15). Weather dry. | dbb | 04/05/2019 |
Parked on A849 200m north of gated track at 720318. Followed the wet, rough path to 718299 then headed ESE before a steep rise to the summit. Weather held up despite forecast. With CM. | bolton | 28/08/2018 |
From A849. With PM. | CJM | 28/08/2018 |
Via track starting 3km to the north. Attempted to cycle but track too wet and indistinct. Nice sunny evening. | Topographer57 | 27/04/2018 |
Evening walk along excellent track, if a little boggy. Fantastic views and sunset | N.Morters | 18/04/2018 |
An easy bag on a pretty dire day, room to park at 719318, more of a path than a track, and pretty mucky.... | hils | 13/04/2018 |
A long road walk back to Craignure in winter boots for welcome pint. | lordtonult | 18/05/2017 |
Storm Babara was heading our way so this low hill was ideal for the conditions. After the boggy track (wellingtons recommended) the view of the ferry to Oban was reassuring. We would be getting home tomorrow. | mindlessflogger | 21/12/2016 |
[Rang the Auchnacraig Estate office in Edinburgh a few days earlier to check the shooting position. A polite lady noted my inquiry, checked with the owner, and rang back to confirm there was no stalking after October 20th.] After Tòrr a’ Bhradain. Killean old road – indeed very wet in places – to its high point beyond Achdabeg, then up left along side of Maol an t-Searraich to join well-used path coming up from west. Over sundry lumps to reach trig. Light overcast, glimpses of sun. View hazy but extensive – up Loch Linnhe and down the Firth of Lorn, from Ben Nevis to the Garvellachs and north Jura. Back down more directly to Killean old road, then north (sunshine now) to A849 and Craignure for Druim Mòr. | mainnirnamfiadh | 22/10/2016 |
Carn Ban, Carn Ban so good I did it twice! Only because I dropped my camera near the top. | jenx | 24/08/2016 |
Along the track from N. Wet and muddy in places so head up to East after 718298. Not memorable. | Thearlaichdubh | 06/05/2016 |
With Jimmy McPaul with hint of light drizzle at times | vegibagger | 02/06/2015 |
Hill climb was not particularly enjoyable, but the close up golden eagle sighting and coast walk to the southeast made these few hours worthwhile. | Alex C | 02/06/2015 |
With Clare, Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 29/03/2014 |
Path from Auchnacraig then animal tracks and rough ground to the top. Nice viewpoint. | AndrewFinnimore | 13/10/2013 |
Afternoon Marilyn after a Graham and four Highland Fives in the morning with Jim Bloomer. | Dugswell2 | 01/05/2013 |
Landowner see's fit to stalk outside dates left on sign at gate at 720318. Phone number on sign answered by an estate management service who are not responsible for that estate; they gave me the owner's number; no answer; left a message; got an angry phone call later on... unbelievably irresponsible to prance around toting a high power rifle without notifying anyone.

Good views up Firth of Lorne and lots of deer to scare. | raffemeister | 20/10/2012 |
Moist, calm, no views above 200m. | iangalbraith | 07/09/2012 |
Bus from Craignure and delightful old track to Killean. Easy terrain and a very fine viewpoint. | fasgadh | 11/08/2012 |
From yacht in Loch Spelve, landing at Eilean Amalaig. Extensive views on bright but cold day | neimcv | 05/05/2012 |
With Coel & Alfie. Parked on the A849, south of Lochdon. Followed the old track to Gualachaolish ruin over boggy ground. Left the track on meeting the stone wall before Killeen ruins and climbed up, avoiding the bracken, to the grassy summit. | Dangerous Dave | 26/08/2011 |
petey | 27/07/2011 | |
with Mark via v muddy track from North. A few false summits. 2hrs 20 but quicker if aim for NE side leaving track before cross the obvious burn. Gales! | niallp | 29/05/2011 |
