| 6th and final hill of the day on a route from Garlieston to Wigtown, climbing Eggerness Hill, Knockeffric Hill, Hawk Hill, Wood Hill and Kirvennie Hill, easily continuing on road towards Wigtown and then using a series of gates through fields, climbing over corner of field to get to summit, raised platf rm of a grass with reservoir and pillar. | Parked in nearby residential street and followed signpost to top (could have driven) to the impressive and moving Martyrs' Monument, erected in 1858 to commemorate 5 Presbyterians/ Covenanters who were drowned (special penalty for women) or executed for failing to commit to an oath of allegiance to the Episcopalian Church/ King in May 1685.
