1 of 4 from 100m east of scabcleugh farm | robertphillips | 22/10/2023 |
Roadside verge parking opposite entrance to Riskinhope Farm (NT 2307 1892). Up onto Peat Hill first, then picked up SUW down to a 436m spot height to break awy from the path and head on over to here. On to Scabcleugh Hill, Peniestone Knowe, East Muchra Hill and return for a 12.6k round. | jonglew | 15/04/2022 |
Parked in parking spot just south of Ramseycleuch Bridge (274144). Through gate opposite west end of triangular junction (272145), and then steeply up to Ramseycleuch Kip. Easy slopes up to Ward Law. Returned over Craig Hill to Ettrick Church. Thick hill fog. | vuirich | 14/01/2022 |
Parked by Ettrick village hall > Along the road to the church > followed ROW up > ATV track leads nicely to the top just short of the HP. | Andrew Simmons | 26/10/2021 |
Parked by Ettrick village hall. Via church then good path before veering off to reach summit of Craig Hill. Descended roughly NW and rejoined path and the Southern Upland Way. Took a steep traversing line to reach the NE top of Peniestone Knowe, then Peniestone Knowe summit (several mounds could be the top, but the cairn looks lower). Fairly direct route to Scabcleuch Hill, then contour round under Corse Hill and steep climb SW to Sandtraie Knowe. Continued to Cossars Hill and descent to the road and return to Ettrick. Mist quite low for most of walk with drizzle for much of the time | RobertP | 16/10/2021 |
With J on a windy & overcast day from Ettrick. Parked at the church & stepped out of the car on to dog mess. Nice. Took old RoW up hillside & aimed for Craig Hill on an ATV track for a good view along the Ettrick valley. Continued N then E on good ATV & sheep tracks via Rig Head to Ward Law. Cairn on other side of deer fence accessible by a stile. Best descent would be to prominent cairn S of the summit & then SW to cross the burn before it becomes a ravine. However, we crossed burn higher up for a trudge through a bog before regaining RoW back to the church. | NotReallyABagger | 08/10/2021 |
From Scabcleugh Hill - electric fence up Scabcleuch burn (between the two hills). Gate off S.U.Way NT 2408 1618. From hill, SW side very steep and rocky plus the electric fence, so returned down SE shoulder on good atv (path) to church. If approaching from church - up road from memorial (NT 2602 1435), bear left up grassy track to left of building (shed/garage) at NT 2595 1456, leading to gate onto hill and atv up. P 100m E of Scabcleuch Farm. Up SUW to 2nd sheepfold by Shiel Sike. Across burn and fence and up to Craig Hill. Back to sheepfold, along Sike then up to SH. Down E and SE to rejoin SUW. | chrisbien | 15/08/2020 |
