A day of south westerly gales, figured this would be doable. Parked at the lower bonally carpark. Paths everywhere on these pentlands. And a nice statue thing to hold onto at top.hils02/02/2024

Harbour, Capelaw, Allermuir and Caerketton hills starting at Balerno High School and along the ridge to the bus terminus at Hillend. Mist and murk gradually lifted but not from the Forth. Pleasantly warm by the end of the 3.5 hours.Thearlaichdubh29/05/2021
with Frances. Walking into a stiff biting cold breeze. Came off Capelaw northwest to Bonaly reservoir. Even the trees here gave scant protection from the cold wind when we had our lunch stop.langskill27/03/2021
From Ski Centre car park, up Caerketton, over Allermuir Hill and Capelaw back via Dreghorn and Swanston. 10km. With Ben and Sally.Victor27/02/2021
solo partial Pentland Skyline. The descent from Castlelaw and then re-ascent to Turnhouse and Carnethy into a strong headwind meant that the attempt to complete the full skyline today was beyond me. Lack of clear path on Black Hill was also a challenge. I missed out Bells Hill and headed directly to Harbour Hill.langskill22/02/2021

As visitors just for the week we are still enthralled by these Pentland Hills rising wonderfully steeply, high and close to the city fringe. They are criss-crossed with smooth grassy paths up, down and around the many hills. A perfect training /breeding ground for fell running champions. We saw one future champ today - a 2 yr old toddler who had broken away from his mum and was gamely wobbling on two feet his way steeply uphill - summit fever calling -until mum gave chase and scooped him up - summit denied -for now. In the Dreghorn Woods down to the N are the protected remains of WW1 trenches used to train soldiers before being sent to the front line such as the Somme. Recruits apparently referred to the mud in these practice Pentland trenches as Dreghorn sludge.Chris Pearson14/07/2020

Castlelaw, Capelaw, Harbour and Bells from Castlelaw car park. A few folk about on a clear windy afternoon - mostly hillrunners - this is Carnethy territory.RHW11/12/2016
Great 10.7 mile walk from Castlelaw car park, walked up good lane then steep path up to Castlelaw Hill, along lanes to Allermuir Hill with a great view of Edinburgh, out-and-back to Caerketton Hill, then along ridge to Capelaw Hill, followed good trails to Harbour Hill then onto Bell's Hill, then one final long pull up onto Black Hill (where weather turned from sunny to rain), then along main lane from summit down to farmland (weather improving), joined surfaced road along Glencorse Reservoir I had previously walked in 2015 after doing Scald Law ridge, then up path not marked on map along rifle range boundary back to Castlelaw car park.DanTrig11/10/2016

Not first visit but with Dave, Claire and SuzieN.Morters10/05/2015
Parked at the Ski Centre, nice cafe. Cut up West side of runs by good track and then paths onto hills. Nice rising traverse to steep col/scree line to gain Caerketton Hill. Then back along over tops to Allermuir Hill then Capelaw. Some good contouring paths back around Allermuir (bikes/runners?) until new fence lines encountered which made things harder. Used top of Golf Course track to get back to start point in good time.nordicstar01/03/2015
Walked up from the Castlelaw Hill car park to bag Castlelaw Hill, Capelaw Hill and then a repeat of Allermuir Hill on a mist morning.Dugswell214/02/2015
