Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log:

With coinea and Clochandighter. Approached from northwest after bagging the neighbouring pillar at Mull of Oa. From Upper Kileyan Farm, the route closely follows the 90m contour line southeast negotiating the boggy area. After crossing Struthan Rabhairt the route starts to climb and follows a near beeline route to the summit. | thejackrustles | 10/05/2022 |
Combined with a walk to the American monument; managed a break in the weather and had great views. 8km round trip | Rockdoctor | 04/05/2022 |
From car park for American Monument. Through Upper Killeyan farm. Followed path left for a short way, then left this on the right and aimed direct for summit. Initially on cattle pasture, then short heather with some paths through it. | KeithByTheC | 26/04/2022 |
Parked at RSPB car park. Walked out to monument, then followed trail arrows around coast path to a gate near the farm. Kept right and headed direct for a reasonably high crossing of the valley. Through a gate, followed trails to another gate over which there is a path to Beinn Mhor sign. Followed this path which was pretty good most of the way up through the heather but then near the top didn't go to the top of the hill. A bit of Heather bashing to the summit. Then off across the top towards the coast east as far as Port Arab's. Then up to join the track to Ballychatrigan, then past Lower Collabus and Collabus, past The Shop In The Box road junction and back along the road to the car park. 10.3 miles 4hrs walking time. | JulieB | 24/04/2022 |
With Dave and Tony in mist and high winds though the rain did keep off mostly while we were out. | Alex C | 04/04/2022 |
From RSPB car park with Dangerous Dave & Alex C. Very windy on the summit! | Tony J | 04/04/2022 |
With Alex C & Tony J. Very windy on the summit. Visited alternative summit outcrop first. | Dangerous Dave | 04/04/2022 |
An easy walk from the RSPB car park. Track to Upper Killeyan, through gate and grassy field down to disgusting bog. Along fence, best go through the gate rather than hop the BWF further down (ha, ha), then circle around and cross the top of Sruthan Rabhairt on good path, then to gate. Various paths up the hill, best one is near the cliff edge. A quick and easy walk. | Gill | 03/04/2022 |
RH Soc Islay meet. | thekirkie pirate | 03/04/2022 |
With Dave Roeder. From RSPB car park (10:15) visited the monument (to WW1 shipwrecked US seamen) and then followed the track along the cliff top, eventually peeling off down to make a boggy crossing of the stream. Followed faint paths above the beach and more or less directly up the hill. Very windy on top. Found a rather better path back, keeping closer to the cliff top. Finished 12:35. | dbb | 03/04/2022 |
From memorial car park, with Bolton & CJM. Beinn Mhor then Mull of OA. Some fantastic cliffs & coastal scenery. | ger | 03/04/2022 |
From Mull of Oa. | chrisbien | 03/04/2022 |
RSPB car park and Upper Killeyan where intermittent tracks take you to the summit. Went over to the alternative. With CM and Ger. Headed to the monument. | bolton | 03/04/2022 |
From RSPB car park, easy pleasant walk along dramatic cliffs after morning ferry. Ireland north coast in clear view. | N.Morters | 30/03/2022 |
From the RSPB car park. Saw a Golden Eagle on the way up! | paulhilder | 14/08/2021 |
RSPB car park to Upper Killeyan then through gate opposite house and along fence line to Struthan Rabhairt. Once crossed another gate allows access onto the headland, where deer/goat/human tracks enable a straightforward walk to Dun Athad and then on to Beinn Mhor. The best track sticks to the seaward side of the hill, just above the cliff line. | summitter | 12/05/2021 |
Straight line from car park. Ground mostly OK. Impressive coastline. It is not necessary to drop below 50 metres. | Topographer57 | 09/06/2019 |
From the car park at the RSPB reserve. There are lots of new fences so we had to drop down to the bay at see level to pass through gates. Fine coastal scenery but there weren't many birds to see. Returned via the monument to the three WW1 ships that went down. | mindlessflogger | 25/04/2019 |
Very strong wind, very cold | petesimpson | 03/04/2019 |
Quite a good morning to walk from the RSPB car park to the American Monument but heavy drizzle on a strong wind came in on the walk to the Marilyn. | NormanW | 27/08/2018 |
Parked at the RSPB car park. Fairly confident I recognised a well known TV scientist next to me in the car park, obviously on a private visit, but too shy/polite/unsure to ask for a selfie. A surprisingly annoying hill from a walking perspective, I stayed as high as I could on the ascent and came at the summit from the north, but found the heather and bracken a nuisance. Took a more direct route back and found some faint paths, but then fiddled about getting across the stream. Beautiful views though, lovely summer late afternoon. | Owen B | 25/08/2018 |
Debs & Talisker from RSPB car park. Along the coast using a couple of gates, mostly on sheep / goat trods. | Mountain Goat | 18/06/2018 |
Parked in RSPB car park and walked up to American Monument before walking east along coast to reach hill. Forced to use GPS/compass to find trig due to mist. No chance of seeing eagles! | wozzat | 07/05/2018 |
Great little hill, and the best bit of coastline on Islay and Jura. Saw Hen Harrier, Sea Eagle, adder, seals and lots of feral goats. | PGCE | 27/04/2018 |
Solo trip. Northern Ireland coast clearly in view. | Invicta14 | 23/04/2018 |
From the RSPB car park. | Chris Peart | 03/04/2018 |
Repeat visit on a blustery day, with Chris Peart | Colin Crawford | 03/04/2018 |
From car park via Mull of Oa and cliff paths. Superb coastal scenery and Choughs. | Winterfloodian | 21/09/2017 |
S/F carpark. Took a more or less direct line to the summit, but only because I was short of time. If doing this, take care to avoid boggy section when crossing burn. If time permits, clifftop route from monument preferable for scenery and easier ground with path coming and going. | AndrewFinnimore | 07/08/2017 |
From RSPB car park. Took trail past farm before following coast to summit. Golden Eagle over just before trig. | garyhoney | 28/07/2017 |
With George. During Chough survey. | iangpark | 04/07/2017 |

From RSPB CP. Returned via Dun Athad and American Monument. | summitsup | 04/06/2015 |
From RSPB car park visited the American monument first then followed cliff tops (roughly) to Beinn Mhor. Looks higher than a mere 202m. Dun Athad looked impressive - visited that on way back. Good path but we lost it on approach to hill top for a rough heathery calf-sapper of a final 500m. | jonglew | 04/06/2014 |
With Mora, from the road end at Upper Killeyan. | BLACKHILL | 31/03/2014 |
from nature reserve car park - no obvious shortcuts, so drop down and climb back up. Fine coastal scenery. | Thearlaichdubh | 23/06/2013 |
Fourth Marilyn and second trig of the day after the American Monument and Dun Athad with vaste wide views at 20:00. Lovely wild flowers & goats. | Dugswell2 | 12/06/2012 |
done with Rachael, took 1.5 hr | tallblond | 10/06/2012 |
From road end at Mull of Oa walked past Killeyan, following faint path over boards across burn at GR283415, through fence and down nr coast. Direct line then up to summit" no views due to mist but grand spot with sound of surf from cliffs below | nordicstar | 09/06/2012 |
Solo. Marhof meet. From Mull of Oa Nature Reserve car park. Walked on track to Upper Killeyan. From there went to col S of Loch na Beinne. Very misty so used compass to get to summit of Beinn Mhòr. Went to the fort called Dùn Athad, a site of antiquity. It's on a promontory with a narrow neck on the landward side. Found a sheep and lamb on the highest point, which I tried to persuade to go down to the neck but I was not successful. Continued to Mull of Oa American Monument. | pwbellarby | 09/06/2012 |

Various inc JC and DC | Martin66 | 03/09/2010 |
With Martin66, JC & various others. Parked at the road end, wandered to the monument & then followed various minor trails to the summit. Returned the same way. There followed the infamous Islay Cattle Incident. I was last away & just as I approached the field gate, the herd of cattle in the field decided to congregate at the gate. Despite best efforts they refused to move for a good 40 minutes! Even tried offering them the remains of my lunch which they just scoffed & stood blocking the gate looking at me in an insolent sort of way. Daft animals... Eventually persuaded a few of them to shift & the others followed. The evening festivities were well under way by the time I got back... | NotReallyABagger | 03/09/2010 |
