Very busy, but eventually found an off-road parking spot near the end of the road. £7.50 concessions for the lighthouse, plus £2 for 1 hour parking, though I was 10 mins over!Minto17/07/2023
Bagged as part of coastal path - trearddur bay to holyheadLancylass04/05/2023
Lighthouse tour with Steve G starting from the lower car park. The locked gate at the side of the building near the HP boulder has been replaced by a nailed in board.Smudge18/09/2022
From car park, along road, down steps, across bridge and up to lighthouse, just before they were closing.PeterD13/08/2022
1 of 3 on 5.7 mile hike starting at south stack car park. Lovely walk along coastline ridge then steep descent to lighthouse. Fantastic views but couldn’t get across bridge as locked and lighthouse closed to the public on this day. Still bagging itThe-Z-Man15/01/2022
Parked in the RSPB car park followed coastal path to elin's tower followed the sign-posted path to the summit. Great views of Holyhead from the top.Tony Hartry26/09/2021
Parked at RSPB car park. Everything shut due to Covid but went as far as possible and attained the height on the mainland so claiming this as will likely never make it back.Argentum6608/07/2021
2nd tump of 3 on a circular from Breakwater country park with Lesley doing an out and back to Tre-Wilmot continuing on a quarry road to access land then getting bogged down in gorse and heather before finding the track S of the transmission tower. We explored the ancient hut circles and had lunch at the car park before continuing to the RSPB seabird centre and then on coastal path to reach the start and descent to South Stack. Stunning geology amidst the bird cacophony. The 20 min wait for the Lighthouse tour included nipping over the gate, sneaking along the building and over another gate to reach the natural rocky outcrop and summit. We enjoyed the talk before climbing back and heading for Holyhead mountain....Dazingdale16/07/2019
Down the 412 steps, over the bridge and up to the high point including the top of the lighthouse - inside.NormanW10/07/2019
On visit up the lighthouse.mad max10/07/2019
Enjoyed the lighthouse talk. Got good sweat up (and a lot of admiring comments from people I passed) attempting to run the 400-odd steps back up the cliff. Nearly made it, too (obviously only eventually stopped when I thought no-one was looking!). Nice area, make sure you visit the hut circles half a mile back down the road.wheresthepath15/04/2019
Asked 2 guides for permission which was refused point blank. Got as far as locked gate. Radar was being operated.chrisbien15/04/2019
Asked permission from Trinity House guide to visit HP. Chap was very anxious citing 'health & safety' issues. Maisie put on her best 'please sir' face so we were allowed to climb over the gate to the HP. Other Trinity House guide not impressed!!DanMaisieBex12/04/2019

From Holyhead Railway Station via Tre-wilmot. Needed a sneaky nip over the wall to get behind the locked gate and visit the rock HP at SH20228226.summitsup14/07/2018
With Denise, Kevin and Jenny after Holyhead Mountain. Where the precise highpoint is, is anyone's guess but having paid my entry fee and climbing to the top of he lighthouse I am happy to claim the summit.Crib Goch10/07/2018
Nipped down the 421 steps to the bridge, over the bridge to the SIB, up to the lighthouse and got to all places I could before nipping up to lightroom (despite being 10cm shorter than the minimum allowed). Was tired on reascent up to ice cream van.Seumas Kerr01/07/2018
Walked to South Stack with Martin from the RSPB café having spent the previous evening climbing at Porth y Garan. People of varied nationalities, ages and physical conditions were all ambling down the long staircase to the crossing bridge. We even spotted a puffin amongst the thousands of guillemots on the cliff face. We coughed up the £5.80 and did the lighthouse tour - the ascent of the lighthouse staircase is probably more unnerving than most Munro ascents (!) but the views at the top are fantastic. Recommended.John Eley03/06/2018
Also went up the lighthouseekm16/04/2018
South Stack is now open. For opening times go to https://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/lighthouses-and-lightvessels/south-stack-lighthouse.andrew brown03/08/2017

Trinity House are looking for a new operator to run the lighthouse and therefore no opening time for 2017 can be confirmed.andrew brown02/04/2017
Only open April to September. Climbing around the locked gate onto bridge looked too difficult for me.jimbloomer11/01/2017
Tacked on after Holyhead Mountain. I ran, bought a ticket, raced down the steps and over the bridge and back up while the others were eating lunch in the car. The guy taking tickets on the bridge (£5.80 adults, £4.20 concessions, tickets at visitor centre) was a bit surprised to see such a flying visit! Incredible views of the cliffs.Mark Jackson25/08/2016
Start from RSPB car park with Caden and Tracey (inc. top of lighthouse)derrymark17/08/2016
Natural high point is rock on NW side of light house accessed over low locked gate. Access to Island is over gated bridge daily Easter to October except Friday when engineer visits to check the light. (£5:80 fee charged to visit by Isle of Anglesey CC) 2 RSPB wardens live on the Island in the summer monitring Terns. During our visit the island was being closed to visits early due to forecast of 70mph winds.RichardM06/08/2016
Natural high point appears to be at outside on exposed outcrop, on NW corner of main building. Angelsey County council charge £5.80 for access. Interesting to go up tower of working lighthouse. Closed Friday's when lighthouse attendant visits and in strong winds.Denise 06/08/2016

They'd closed the island just before I'd arrived due to a sighting of a rat by one of the staff: this apparently happens from time to time at short notice. Gate still open as visitors still on island and chap in kiosk still allowing folk onto the bridge. Inevitably the occasional visitor will overshoot...RHW13/09/2015
Info, not visited (yet)... Opening times seem generally 10.30 til 5pm, closed Fridays. Website for opening times: http://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/lighthouses/lighthouse_list/south_stack.html?tab=visitor £5.50 admission currently. Gate to island locked when lighthouse closed.RHW11/09/2015
Under doctors orders not to climb hills, so decided that to descend 400 odd steps and back again was a good compromise: enjoyed the exhibition in the lighthouse.GordonAdshead02/07/2015
It's closed on Fridays!ijpowell12/06/2015
