On track from Turrifield to Shen Dale, then up hillside to summit.Winterfloodian03/06/2023
From mast track to NE. Up to trig and HP.PeterD14/05/2023
Circuit from Coastguard hut at Huxter. South along the coast, then over Ramna Vord up to Sandness Hill and down across rough ground to pick up the track that goes past the transmitter to the road. Quiet stroll back to Huxter from there.the pigguy 11/09/2022
From mast track to NE. Easy up to broad ridge and following dry weather simple plod to summit. Fine views to Foula.N.Morters25/04/2022
As per the Shetland Cicerone guide. Parked at the Dale of Walls 181525, headed towards the end of the road and then left through a gate onto a track, after a short distance headed up hill towards summit of Blouk Field, then Dale Hill, then around ridge onto Sandness Hill. Great views from summit. Down ridge over Ramna Vord to impressive cliff coastline. Followed Coastline back over Deep Dale picking up signposted path after Weinnia Ness, then back along track to car. Well worth doing this longer route rather than a shorter bag and go version from the other side as coastal section is very scenic and impressive with lots of stacks, caves and arches. 6.8 miles, 1200ft climbing ~3hrs walking time.JulieB21/06/2021
From Dale Hill along broad ridge to avoid dropping into Deep Dale. Returned to Dale of Walls via stunning coast. KeithByTheC21/06/2021
An extraordinary drive to get here after teaching at Walls - along the narrowest and twistiest of single tracks - glorifying in its A road (single track with passing placed) status. Full concentration not to end up in one of the many wayside moorland lochs - one severe bend has a big crash barrier to prevent this. Up and down 'the track' route in 45 mins at full tilt trying not to come a cropper on the run down from this hill at the end of the universe. I went the extra 350m west of trig summit to cairn to marvel at the views beyond of Foula and Papa Stour - both on the shopping list. The out of place large building seen down in Sandness is the hugely successful Jamieson woollen mill -whose weaving looms produce an extensive range of genuine Shetland Tweeds and blankets, sold worldwide in premium stores and boutiques e.g. £220 for a luxurious jacket. Odd to think that the few hardy sheep munching away up here in the gales unwittingly play a key role in this world famous product.Chris Pearson17/03/2021
Pretty tedious long plod across peat hagged moorland with quite strong winds but even an occasional shaft of sunlight to sparkle of lochans and bring a brief bit of cheer. Clockwise circuit over Dale hill and then Sandness hill. Sandness hillfeels like a giant Kilimanjaro compared to the other hills around, especially seen from Sandness.vegibagger11/06/2019
Evening ascent after a day with the kids. Parked below mast, up track to mast and easy walking up track beyond to upper slopes. Easy trot over bog to stoney ground and summit area. Nice views. Bagged trig, various cairns and higher ground near trig.assynt_bob11/06/2019
From NE - initially on track passing mast. With Dave Smith, Enid & Jeff Parr. Met Chris Peart. Rain, but top clear. Walked on to SW top.ger10/06/2019
Took the mast track to it's end. No sign of an ATV track continuing but easy enough going.Chris Peart10/06/2019
From HU 2072 5643. Track to well past the small comms bldg. Then a faint ATV track most of rest of the way.jonglew18/08/2018
Last hill of the day, up the mast track, which continues about half way up the hill. Up a stony, peaty broad ridge to join an ATV track giving good going towards a large cairn and then the top. Fine views despite the gale and intermittent rain.Gill18/08/2018
Started at track to mast then easy up to top.NormanW20/06/2018

Parked at end of track nr Turrifield. Up track which goes further than shown then direct to summit.Coinneach20/05/2017
Parked at Trona Scord Cycled to Bousta. Then walked the coast all way round to Deep Dale, Banks Head and took in all the summits Ramna Vord, Hill of Melby, Sandness Hill and Shendale Hill on way back to the car. 11.4 miles 660 M ascentNeil Fraser18/10/2016
Parked at Dale of Walls. Walked to beach and then up to Blouk Field and Dale Hill. Then NE around the head of Deep Dale to the trig. Found a coast guard helmet on the grass which must have been dropped from a helicopter. From trig followed ridge west to the cliffs of Banks head for misted views to the see below. Followed coast back to car.mindlessflogger23/08/2016
Parking at gate HU208564. Track half way then stay low until final rise (avoids some wet/hags). Sunny and hot!iangalbraith25/08/2014
Track from Woollen Mill, then easily up to summit.AndrewFinnimore10/08/2014
Solo. Along track starting near Turrifield and leading to a mast. The track continues beyond the mast someway towards the summit. The final part of the ascent was over open ground with some peat hags. There is a trig point at the summit with the highest point a few metres from the trig point.pwbellarby27/08/2013
Great views on a clear day.bolton29/07/2013
Pleasant easy and sunny ascent on return from Foula. Good for getting the land legs back.fasgadh04/07/2013
W Jenx, our final Shetland main isles Marilyn. Lovely day, hill bathed in sun. Cool breeze for an edge. Park at GR207564. Take marked track which extends further to Shendale hill. Easy the to summit slopes and rocky top similar to Ronas. Out to Ramna Vord for great views of Foula, next time we're up.nordicstar02/06/2013
Bagged with Tricky Speirs.Dugswell201/06/2013

Easy from ENE via track and pasture. My 2nd time here. RHW27/05/2013
Parked at 197568 then asked local the best way up, who directed us through her garden. Glorious sunny afternoon with welcome cooling breeze. Great views over Papa Stour and across the sea to Ronas Hill.Topographer5725/05/2013
from TurrifieldThearlaichdubh06/05/2013
Track that starts at HU208564 goes further than shown on map, then it is fairly easy going if a little boggy. Worth walking further towards coast for great view of Foula.Martin R01/05/2012
From highest point on the road. Lots of animal trods avoid the bogs.Eddie22/08/2011
