Solo kayak from Tenby south beach car park. No wind but enough swell to make landing on rocks on south side slightly awkward. Noticeable flow heading south around local HW and 2 hrs later after circumnavigating Caldey it was stronger; had to work hard to get back round Giltar point. | AndyS | 22/06/2023 |

With Richard and Denise. Seems no longer doable on foot from Caldy due to rockfall. Kayaked from Penally beach, luckily space in small free car park early pm. Half mile on good path to reach sea, trolley recommended. Complex waves and E-W tide race around high water neap, landed on rocky beach E end, scrambled E summit, old but sound fixed rope protecting steep section E end. Arete to higher W summit not viable due to recent looking rock fall and not bypassable without steep serious looking climb or swimming. Paddled round to S side, tricky landing in 3ft swell, easy scramble to summit plateau with ruined wall and 2 buildings, highpoint at W end. Decent launch on falling tide, able to cross gap before closed off, straightforward paddle back with no tide race evident | RHW | 27/07/2019 |
With Denise and Rob. Kayak from Penally beach with swell and tide to add excitement. Easy landing on pebble beach of the E headland but ridge connecting W part of island steep and loose. Kayaked through Little Sound and landed (not without interest) on slabs on E side of main island. Straight forward ascent once landed. Exciting launch and interesting breakers in Little Sound on return. In all a memorable trip. | RichardM | 27/07/2019 |
Approx 700m over dodgy rocks from Caldey then a couple of places to scramble up depending on where you want to try your luck! Not difficult but Cistercian monks (island owners) discourage visitors from accessing western end of Caldey. We didn't encounter anyone so just got on with it. A fairly short window for crossing, failed the previous day as tide coming in too fast, so had to return; no bad thing as Caldey very pleasant place to visit. | jonglew | 26/09/2015 |
