Logged Descriptions  (logged by 29 users)ByDate of Ascent
Parked at top of Heolgerrig residential street. Short walk up tracks over fence to trig and aerial in field . HP by trig, unmarked. Low cloud and drizzle. Rubbish seems less than others described and we met a family collecting rubbish.Denise 17/02/2024
From the end of the Heolgerrig track where it reaches the ridge. Over gate and track NW to the first mast then over BWF and wet grassy track to levelish pasture summit with trig pillar and comms mast on lower ground. High point is ground on N. side of pillar. We also visit the field to the NW which looks very similar height. Misty, light rain slight SSW wind, mild.RichardM17/02/2024
8 mile run from MTB car park - dropped down to track parallel with A470 then left following the pylons to top then right to old lane and through gate to trig - returned by descending lane/track to top of Abernant and up a cracking zig zag track to Gethin ridge and descent to startmilejunkie14/02/2022
Train form Quakers Yard to Merthyr then back along the ridge. Mynydd Aberdar, Mynydd Gethin & Twyn Brynbychan.Arbie07/06/2021

I parked in the village at the end of Heol Gerrig to the north rather than risk driving up the track. It also gave me a bit more exercise. Strolled up the lane to find it blocked with flytipping rubbish near the point of turning off towards the mast and trig. A nice stroll up to the trig. I had just taken my photos when a 4x4 appeared. Not sure if it was the farmer or not. He didn't appear perturbed by my presence.Father Ted21/05/2019
Parked at start of track marked unsuitable for turning but there were places to turnPip5601/03/2019
Drove to the top of Heolgerrig which gave good height. Easy parking. Don't go up the narrow lane as turning is difficult as the sign states. Yet more unsightly fly tipping. Merthyr is experiencing an epidemic.Campbell Singer03/04/2018
From top of Heolgerrig. More fly tipping in Merthyr.Barbara Singer03/04/2018
Parked at 027058. I hate to think how much fly-tipping there would be if there were no signs. Qucick up and back to the trig by the second mast. Nice view of Merthyr if that is not an oxymoron.clivevilla13/03/2018
From minor road to SE. Parked where the fly-tippers usually do.jonglew09/12/2016
Parked near bus stop. Tarmac road to the col, but not a lot of space due to fly tipping. Through pasture to trig. Good views to BB's. HP seemed to be in next field.PeterD31/07/2016
