Drove the Forest Drive toll road from Kielder for 10 miles, parking at Blackblakehope. The mapped parking doesn't exist, parked in wide entrance to gated forestry road (NY 7569 9976). Down to the Hindhope Law trig pillar first, mostly on a good forest road, then a wide but deep heather break. From there took a near enough direct line to here, very rough deep heather/grass tussocks, slow going, and the rain didn't make it any easier. On the return found the mapped PRoW heading NNE essentially doesn't exist, I followed it but it was very unpleasant going until hitting the outward bound forest road just S of the mapped disused quarry (700m from the car at NY 7552 9916). Not the best 6 mile walk I've done and not really enhanced by picking up Stile Crag on the way down to the trig, a p15.14m prominence hill on Harold Street, which doesn't have a classification of any description on that site! | jonglew | 26/09/2023 |
From Earl's Seat via Burn Grange and Emblehope. Was confronted by a woman with millions of dogs on the track NW of Burn Grange, demanding to know where I'd come from and what I was doing etc. She assumed I'd walked through her yard (I hadn't) and might have done something to her puppies (I hadn't). She calmed down after a bit. The bridleway north from Emblehope was pretty good for these parts and I slightly enjoyed the walking. Straightforward return to Blackhope Nick. 30km, 670m ascent, 6.5 hours. | Wycombe Wanderer | 17/08/2023 |
Walk Up to street head on forest drive. Parking to the north just off forest drive. Through top gate then opposite flag pole, 10m, there is a faint ATV track which leads all way to summit. Great long distance views. The MOD radar hardstanding to which track leads appears no longer in use, trees growing on track. | cjo | 10/06/2023 |
Room to park at Blackblakehope. S on forest roads to Stile Grain then forest road WSW to NY749983 where a footpath goes S - not easy to spot and a little overgrown but an easy way to the edge of the forest - then a heather bash > Blackman's Law - good views but another place popular with flies at this time of the year! | JohnR | 28/06/2021 |

Heathery atv from forest boundary NY 7366 9828 a gift compared to some of the trigs in this area. | carole engel | 30/07/2019 |
As AJ. Took advantage of AJ's overgrown ATV track which is just discernable a few metres south of the double gates which made this one of the easiest bags I have done in this area - well under an hour return. AJ's rocky tor is quite a striking feature and on a better day would be a good bait or coffee stop - it was blowing a hoolie today! | Crib Goch | 21/02/2019 |

Forest drive then parked at NY 7366.9911 just before locked barrier. Easy track S to gate at top near Street Head with 'Kennel Club' notice board (strange place to put it). Rough heathery track just inside forest to summit, an embedded rock in heather to S of fence. Rocky tor 25m S, delightful spot to contemplate the meaning of life. As a bonus, overgrown quad track leads back to the gate, well away from the forest. | Aye Jimmy | 14/08/2016 |
An excellent viewpoint but a very little visited summit. The picnic and parking site at Blackblakehope are no longer available but parking possible just north at the track junction with the forest drive (alt 908 ft). Stick to the forest road as far as Stile Grain. Continue along the track to the bridleway where you can turn left and follow it through a forest clearing. If you can spot it, there is a public footpath running NW through the forest clearing that you pass. This short cuts to (almost) the summit. If you miss it, just continue to the fence. About 20m south of the fence is a vehicle track which goes to the summit avoiding the ankle bending tussocky ground. You will see the missed waymarked footpath easily as you return! | moorsman | 01/08/2015 |
