Logged Descriptions  (logged by 31 users)ByDate of Ascent
From St Cuthbert’s cave free NT carpark and after Green Sheen Hill on a grey blustery day. Trees all recently felled so ascended over brash along wall line. Could be worse. Good sea views now.Denise 04/02/2024
We approach from the NW along the NE side of the DSW. Hillside to E and the ridge line has been clear felled and the going not too bad. High point unmarked grassy lump on rocks/sand on W side of what remains of the DSW. Forest to W. Great views E. Our descent W down through the open pines is much easier route – though there is a crag to avoid.RichardM04/02/2024
Approaching on St Cuthbert's Way from the SW, there is a forest ride & thin path lead towards the top. A large number of fallen trees along the crestline but can walk more freely on the west side of the summit wall to find the actual top and to move off towards St Cuthbert's Well.Moorponder24/10/2022
After GH east side of wall is full of windblown trees, better to come along west side 50m out, summit area has trees down everywhere.robertphillips20/02/2022
From col with Greensheen wher I hid the bike. Mostly easy through the trees, but plenty of booby traps under the blaeberries.fasgadh22/06/2021
From NT car park at Holburn. Path to the cave and followed path out. Into the wood kept to the NNE side of the wall all the way to the top.Andrew Simmons05/05/2021
National Trust carpark at Holburn Grange to the track above St Cuthbert's Cave. Follow the wall > Cockenhaugh summit. Much easier through the forest to the NE of the wall.JohnR18/11/2020
There is no path from the col to the summit. However, there are hard ways and an easier way. The easier one takes you from the col gate right, alongside the tree boundary to a gate into the wood where the trees turn east. Enter the woods here and make for the summit-heading wall. Cross this wall and there is a very vague, but developing, track through the bracken and heather. This (believe me) is far preferable than ploughing your way through the trees (you won't try the tree route twice!)moorsman02/08/2019
From Holburn Grange, an evening stroll through overgrown woodlandColin Crawford17/06/2018
From Greensheen good path to col, then overgrown path to L of wood and wall. Gate into wood, keep well left to pick up path, avoiding ridge and undergrowth on the right until about 80m from top. Easily then to wall junction. Once back at the col, path and small gate lead down wood past St.Cuthbert's cave, worth a look.Aye Jimmy25/07/2016
From Holborn Grange CP. Horrible thrash through bracken and windblown treesCrib Goch12/07/2016
Climbed from Holburn Grange - visiting St Cuthbert's Cave on the way. Did involve a lot of threading between trees/sections of wall on the way to the summit, but was actually a rather enjoyable experience - wildlife was a bonus. Returned the way I came to climb the other 2 tumps in the area.Emphyrio09/03/2015
Lowick to Belford. Traversed from col near St. Cuthbert's Cave. Summit at wall junction. Windthrow on upper section was particularly awkward to negotiate & contination SE not to be recommended.Smudge21/03/2014
P at Holburn Grange. Track to pass then through wood to Cockenheugh then back to pass and up to trig on Greensheen Hillchrisbien08/02/2014
