On a round from the Wooler hostel. This the first, on to Earle Whin, Hart Heugh, Fredden Hill, Gains Law (subtump), Harehope Hill (subtump), Humbleton Hill and return through the town centre for a 10 mile round.jonglew23/03/2024
Same round as Jon but going in opposite direction, met Jon Hart heugh.cjo23/03/2024
Late afternoon stroll from Wooler hostel, path past Waud House to NT 987270 where path leads to a gate and then up the hill. Pleasant grassy hill with good views. Went on to the adjacent Kettles hill fort, perhaps more interesting, then SW on St Cuthbert's way and up Earle Whin, through small gate, cow paths into a morass, then joining good track. Through field gate then rough pasture to top. Back via Wooler Common and the ponds path.Gill22/03/2024
Domed grassy summit. No feature, hard to say where summit is. Pale owl hunting. No 6 and final ofWooler circuit.Denise 05/02/2024
From the SSE along the ridge. Large levelish grassy summit of improved sheep pasture. Difficult to say where the high point is and too windy to Abney. Wherever it is it’s unmarked. Most likely contenders are NT 98686 27358 & NT 98671 27447. Short-Eared Owl (I think) hunting over the King's ChairRichardM05/02/2024
Permissive access at NT 99091 27246. Choice of three unlocked gates into summit field - top, middle and bottom - therefore no fence climbing needed. Handy wooden seats at NT 98741 27189 and NT 98633 27400.Martin R29/05/2022
Storm Malik, so confined to lower tops. Even then, nearly blown away. With Rick and dogs.jenx29/01/2022
With Jo, from Wooler Common cp. Bridleway and tracks to Hart Heugh and Earle Whin. Continued east to fp, through gate, then after a few metres took faint path up to gate at NT 98792 27037 and followed permissive path east side of fence to Horsdon. Returned to gate, (longer, but no fences to climb), and followed paths/tracks back to car park. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility.amblerbob28/06/2021
Short diversion off St Cuthbert`s way to bag this hillAndrew Simmons19/06/2021
Parking at Wooler Common (NT976272). > Humbleton Hill > Gains Law > Fredden Hill > Hart Heugh > Earle Whin > Horsdon. Paths/tracks/rough grass and heather but nothing too strenuous.JohnR27/11/2020
From parking on common road gate and 1 fence to the top.robertphillips27/01/2020
Didn't find this as quick as expected due to steepness of the hill. Good parking down Common Road in Wooler at the point where the bridleway leaves the road. Walk south to the bridleway/footpath junction, then head along the boggy footpath. Turn and head upwards when the adjacent glorse thins out. I came back in a direct lined to Waud House which is far easier. 1.28km return. 30 minutes.moorsman01/08/2019
From Large car park NT 97700 27400. 7 minor hills in a large circular route.Jhimmy04/06/2019
From road to East, past quarry, on to English Nature access bridleway, 1 field gate. 2 Hares and a yearling eating crab apples.maknipe05/11/2018
End of circuit which started with Fredden. From Earle Whin followed forest edge E down to Wishing Well then track up to col. Short steep ascent of hillside through wet bracken and bushes was worst part of day.Aye Jimmy03/07/2016
Very pleasant circular from Wooler Common CP. Fredden Hill, Hart Heugh, Earle Whin and Horsdon.Crib Goch02/07/2016
From n, straight up, past pillbox. Then to Earle WhinRHW11/10/2015
Short diversion from St Cuthbert's Way, straight up from col to West.agentmancuso16/07/2013
A short evening stroll from Wooler YHA. There are a number of legends about the valley and fort nearby that were being commemorated in a leaflet at the time, and it certainly was an atmospheric area!DanHolme20/09/2006
