From Snishival, up Beinn Mor, Beinn Choradail, Hecla, dog-leg to Beinn na Laire. Round to NW ridge of Hecla and descend, returning straight to start | phil70 | 29/08/2023 |
From A865 Mill Croft. Parked in small lay by just down the side road. Up the peat road then made the mistake of going round the largest lochan to the south. Discovered on descent that the best path goes directly to the north of the lochan then strikes for the left side of the relatively obvious small stream, passing the big boulders at the extreme right of the boulder field. Although boggy in places this is a good path basically to the summit. The ridge is lovely, no scrambling but quite narrow in places. Superb views and a very worthwhile day! | pog100 | 07/06/2022 |
From A865 by Loch Dobhrain. Three Peaks route as described in the SMC book, The Corbetts & other Scottish Hills. Solo. A pair of Golden Eagles were soaring around the summit. | Dangerous Dave | 03/06/2022 |
Parked by track end opposite Loch Dobhrain;used track to end, crossed boggy land to NW shoulder and up to Pt 608m and along ridge to summit, returning same way. Beautiful views, a few showers, but constant high wind made it difficult walking. | IanHHill | 26/05/2022 |
From northern Loch Aineort road end and up SSE ridge, back over Spin. | PeteF | 22/04/2022 |
Brilliant views as soon as cloud disappeared. Quite easy climb up | Adventurers5 | 15/09/2021 |
From end of road at Loch Aineort via Bealach Crosgard. | Winterfloodian | 22/10/2020 |
Beinn Mhor must be one of the UK's best hills; just superb. Easy going on a decent path after the bogs, a narrow summit ridge and jaw-dropping views. What more could you want? On to Beinn Choradail, dodging many small crags on the way down, then an easy climb up a steep grassy rake to Feith Bealach and steep up to the top. Back S a short way, then the easy descent NW on steep, dry grass. The bealach with Thacla is a pain in the bum, many outcrops to weave around. Easy climb up Thacla, steep, obvious route in clear weather. The walk out was a bit of a character forming route march to beat sunset and failed. Correct route to the larger lochan but missed the track to Mill Croft in the dark. B*gger... | Gill | 14/10/2020 |
Superb traverse of S Uist's Big Three. Excellent weather. Started from Water Works.

a nice ridge unfortunately rainy day | dmckeith | 13/06/2019 |
From A865 at Mill Croft. Peat road and track, then at a big lochan presumably made by the peat digging, a good path seemed to go in the wrong direction. With retrospect, maybe I should have followed it but both up and down I found clear paths then lost them at confusing areas. Half an hour in each direction was a tedious moorland plod. From Maola Breac, it became pleasant on grass and slabs. Finally, the summit ridge is a fine arête, narrow and exposed but paths take shelves on easier ground, just little bits on the crest. The steep ground to the HP is circumvented- no scrambling required. The summit ridge was so good I strolled over to the SE cairn. Views no better, but a nice excuse to have another 20 mins walking up here. Cloudy, but about 2000 ft to start, rising throughout the day. The main ridges here run SE to NW but to traverse all 3 major hills is a SW to NE route- too serious for me today in OK conditions. Return by the same route, more or less. Well worth doing on its own. | pwheeler | 24/05/2019 |
Climbed solo from A865 at Mill Croft (768346). Track at first, then boggy terrain to NW ridge at Maola Breac. Final part of ridge is a fine arête, narrow and exposed though no scrambling required. Fine weather with some mist patches earlier but clearing. Great views across the Uists, Barra, Harris and to the mainland. Return by the same route. Approx 4 hours. Highly recommended! | jamessteel100 | 30/10/2018 |
From NF 7674 3489, room for 2 cars. Wet ground until some height gained, thereafter a pleasant walk up and a lovely ridge at the top. Back tracked to NF 8058 3195 and dropped down to the bealach for an assault on Beinn Choradail; then on to Thecla. | jonglew | 10/08/2018 |

3rd attempt after stopping at Pt 608 in 1973 and 1974 in heavy rain and thick mist. This time I summited but the mist descended, spoiling the view and preventing me going on to Corodale. | Topographer57 | 19/09/2017 |
Trig visit | chalky1953 | 29/08/2017 |
Parked at memorial lay-by on A.865 South of loch Dobhrain, walked back N along road and up track near house and big greenhouse to access the moorland, glorious warm sunny day. Aimed for v-shaped bealach, found path again up heathery slopes, easier going up bouldery NW ridge. Superb ridge walk to summit, views fantastic! Returned same route. Climbed with wife Nicola and children James and Laura. | pdantic | 09/08/2017 |
Parked on the Peat Road to the N.W and cut across the moor to the ridge. Very easy ridge walking to the dramatic top.4hrs there and back. | Play2End | 06/04/2017 |
Beinn Mhor (NF 808310) S/F NF 767346 Only dry day on island. Sunny and very warm with little wind. But slow ascent resulting in sumit ridge being covered in hill fog restricting views to glimpses by time I got there. Lots of people on hill, no surprise given weather in early morning. Chose different route down to speed up discent and avoid bogs but poor navigation at end crossing intended path and finishing at wrong place. | John Young | 01/07/2016 |
Definitely one of my favourite ridge walks. It was so still and hot walking up that the midges were a problem. Golden Plover, Long-leaved and Round-leaved Sundew, Butterwort. No eagles, sadly. Wondered if we'd make it when we saw narrow ridge, but the path follows the southern, more gentle slopes, not the precipitous ridge. With Paul. | Skerryvore | 05/06/2016 |
With G. From end of road @ Loch Aineort > Bealach Crosgard via path at first on edge of loch then across rough moor & then steep to bealach > Beinn Mhor > back to Beinn nan Caorach > Bealach Bolum (easy ground) > NF 793 298 on easy to follow winding 4x4/peat track > then South across moor navigating lochs before picking up paths (NF 794 290). If found whilst crossing the moor, the 4x4 track to Bealach Bolum (NF 818 288) is a good (longer but easier & distinct) alternative to the climb up to Bealach Crosgard. | RT1970 | 26/05/2016 |
Parked at 768,346. Constant rain for entire walk and clag down to 1000ft which gave a few navigational problms on descent. | Crib Goch | 17/05/2016 |
With: hb; Very strong NW wind but clear day. Walked up from bridge by Abhainn Rog. Met David Broom on summit - who had walked up S ridge. | Ian Baines | 13/05/2016 |

With Mora, from waterworks access road at nf771322 | BLACKHILL | 22/05/2015 |
Dropped off at Lasgair, Lochboisdale. Ascended Beinn Ruigh Choinnich, Triuirebheinn, Stulabhal, Airneabhal, crossed east flank of Trinneabhal and descended to be picked up at road end. Dropped off at road end on north side of Loch Aineort. Ascended Beinn Mhor, Beinn Choradail, Hecla and descended to Loch Sgioport. Amazing travesrse - thanks for the lift across Loch Aineort btw. Would be good to use a bike or kayak for this also. | raffemeister | 15/04/2015 |
Completed alongwith Beinn Choradail and Hecla. Cloud sitting in glen so no views of cliffs, although good views to south. Ascended from Snishival, ascent boggy and tiring, then on ridge much easier. | quadbarrel | 10/04/2015 |
from track at loch dobhrain to summit and also bc and hecla | robertphillips | 12/09/2014 |
East from locheynort through short path entrance to wet moor to bealach thence to ridge, same route as Arranc. Probably not the most efficient ascent route, but enjoyable nevertheless. | dandaran | 23/08/2014 |
Camped outside Howmore hostel, walked up with Roisin, amazing weather. Could see St Kilda. Bit of Hanger at the top before being fixed with oatcakes and peanut butter. saw a corncrake. | GravelMonkey | 26/06/2014 |

Solo walk/climb before Mhairi and Steven's wedding. I climbed direct from the road. I could hear a stag roaring to the east of the ridge. | langskill | 16/09/2009 |
From road. Windy day no midges until jumped into summit cairn where they were all hiding, got out quick. | mart0797 | 22/08/2009 |
Walked to the summit and back from the road. Cloudy on top so didn't extend it. | mindlessflogger | 18/08/2008 |
Trig revisit. In cloud, as it was for the whole of the week. Path from SW, to N end of Sloc Dubh, intermittent across bog then steep grassy climb, decent ridge. | RHW | 28/08/2007 |

Off the A865 there is an access track to some works probably water and by these works is a car park.Another plus for this walk is a fence (all but destroyed) which runs in a direct line to the NW ridge from the works. Summit then obtained | garyhoney | 08/08/2004 |
