Oh why do I bother? Another bash up through brash. I came from the RoW to the NNW. The forest roads shown on the 1:25,000 map do not exist.Alan Moore02/12/2023
From the row. Met an archer, had a chat about ticks (seems a very ticky sort of place)maknipe04/08/2023
In near darkness south over pathless brash (trees all felled) from RoW. No feature at summit but twinkling lights pleasant. Descended west to RoW- no path found. Continued South-ish to Powter How carpark (free).Denise 28/12/2022
Bassenthwaite station excellent cafe, really nice tracks to Ladies Table and Powterhow, bus at Thornthwaiteraymondwilkes23/12/2022
Approached from the path from Wythop Hall, paths ok until the last bit through the felled debris. New archery targets present in the woods.snoot05/09/2022
With AB. forest has now been felled.DARRENG11/06/2022
Nice view of the hill from the road end but unfortunately the summit is round the back and covered in debris from felled conifers. The walk back through the deciduous wood is better and there are convenient gates back to the road end.JohnW09/03/2022
From Lothwaite side. BW to the wood then picked a way up through the debris. No particular difficulties. The open woodland to the south is interesting, with foam animals like bear and deer scattered in the trees.Moorponder02/01/2022
From the end of the road, short but rough climb due to the tree felling debris.colinfielding30/11/2021
Up the bridleway from Beck Wythop to the fell fence and then a steep slog through the post apocalyptic landscape to the summit using faint traces of old paths and tyre tracks from forestry vehicles. With Boris and the Bobster.ytfckent24/06/2021
2/8 Powter How from car park, then walked along to Ladies Table via woodland, picked route up to Lothwaite, Rivings and Sale Fell (Revisit) then across to Ling Fell (revisit) and dropped onto Burthwaite Heights. Then contoured round hills to regain access to woodland. After cheeky pint at Pheasant a quick nip up Castle How completed a busy day.nickywood131/07/2020
I parked in a layby near Beck Wythop then followed zig-zag paths much of the way up. No problems until the upper felled section and that was no worse than expected. Ugly, certainlyColin Crawford20/02/2020
Festive stroll in the mist and murk. With R And B.jenx24/12/2019
You are (very) strongly advised not to attempt this hill from Beck Wythop since major felling has rendered most of the paths currently impassible. I gave up after an hour of knee-wrenching scrambling up and down over the brash and went to the end of the road after Old Scales to the NW. Parking at the start of bridleway. The extent of the devastation can be seen from here but some felling lorry tracks aid progress upwards. No trees on the top. Also you are starting at 200m rather than 80m at Beck Wythop, so far less ascent. You have been warned!!!moorsman16/10/2019
Ladies Table has been felled. It's now a complete mess and will take some time to recover. The view from the top can now be seen, but Lothwaite (3718) to the north remains superior.JMDobb05/10/2019
With Sue from quarry CP. Ling Fell, Burthwaite Heights, Ladies Table was a mess after logging, Lothwaite, Rivings and Sale Fell. Wet and cloudy good day for navigating.Frank09/07/2019
Parked at Woodend Brow (didn't realise possible to park at Beck Wythop). 14:00, atmospheric cloud conditions: some fells illuminated, cloud base 2600'. 17 degrees, no wind. Track/BW to edge of forest then FP to fence between conifers and oak wood, followed fence line to bear tree, then easy walk to summit. Much easier than I'd feared. Added a couple of sticks to the cairn - Q2 compleat! Surprisingly quiet up here considering proximity to A66, nice little hidden corner of Lakeland. Returned same route, smoke billowing around the top of Volcano Mountain looked impressive through trees. 1 hour 20 minsWycombe Wanderer01/09/2018
From end of the road to W. Mapped woodland paths largely blocked by windfall, but easy to circumnavigate them. Top in conifer plantation. On to Lothwaite.jonglew12/01/2018
Ladies Table from GR: NY 19943 28823ronaldo33312/11/2017
From the carpark at Beck Wythop up the zigzag forestry paths which have deadfall obstacles in places and fade out towards the summit. A tiny 'cairn' of logs at the top.Fellwoman13/04/2017
Lambfoot Farm bus stop - Cockermouth Golf Course - Slate Fell - Watch Hill - Setmurthy Common - Embleton - Sale Fell - Rivings - Lothwaite - Ladies Table - Woodend Brow car park and bus stop.Mark Jackson13/04/2017
From road end to west, initially along BW then round forest edge, path animal targets and up to top, avoiding fallen trees. No view from top. Back same route and up Rivings and Lothwaite.PeterD29/12/2016
Suddenly I saw a bear standing upright deep in the woods! Huge adrenaline surge for a nano-second. Fight or Flight? Flight winning until brain called off the alarm as it seemed unnaturally still / model like and I recalled previous logs about plastic wild animals for archery targets. We then saw two people firing arrows at it! (very brave). Gave all a wide berth and picked our way through shady trees up to summit and back down to resume normal service on the r o w which led down to Bassenthwaite and along lane to include bear free Powter How in our walk from Wythop Mill. Later visited Martin & Liz living in Keswick who had carried (nervously)bear spray when trekking in Canada, but never in Whinlatter!Chris Pearson23/08/2016
Parked at end of minor road to west and followed directions of ngthack.Lionel Bidwell10/04/2016
From Lothwaite Side into Wythop Wood. Just inside wood turn south & follow wood /field boundary to end of conifers. Then over stile & up hillside in more open deciduous trees to archery target area. Cross barbed wire fence. (Easy if you pick your spot). Then up through more open firs with minimal fallen trees to log cairn & ladyless boulder table. With Vic.ngthack06/02/2016
From end of the lane to west, parking space for at least two cars. Don't follow the bridleway! Once into woods at the end fallen trees and non-existent tracks shown on maps make this a hard line. Instead use the FP to south, angling across to it from the parking, and once at boundary of coniferous and deciduous trees (GR206289)follow this up, until after the s bend to some markers at the wall (GR207287). A direct line uphill, avoiding one fallen tree (currently) takes you direct to summit - small cairn of logs and the Ladies Table nearby. Would have been a grand picnic spot once before the plantings. Agree with Jimmy the summit to West in the natives trees is almost as high and much more pleasant.nordicstar01/11/2015

From end of minor road at NY 19943 28823. Not easy after the pleasant bridleway due to fallen trees and very vague almost none existent forest tracks.David Gradwell26/08/2015
With Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. Watch out for black bears!Dangerous Dave04/08/2015
Bridleway to E of Old Scales leads ENE then E into forest with many fallen trees at first. Summit cairn of small logs in conifers. Area of deciduous woodland to S seems to be an adventure park with a high point perhaps worthy of closer scrutiny as a separate hill.Aye Jimmy01/08/2015

Wythop circular with Dr.T. Steep in places, but 'runnable' forestry.Smudge23/11/2013
Hill covered in coniferous plantation including summit area. Small rock outcrop (the Table?) just below the top. Ascent from public footpath at NY20762903 involves initial fight to cross fallen trees, then clear zigzag path towards summit. Final ascent trackless between trees. Descent SW through gap in trees to col linking to South Top and very light path SE to rejoin public footpath in Hogg Park. No views.Coiruisg07/07/2013
Dense spruce, also visited NY 20955 28679 289M4MSPRUCE, NY 20965 28621 289M4MPINES, NY 20997 28523 271M3MSTONYNOLL.. From SE, to NY 21083 28847 210m then grassy re-entrant RHW22/04/2012
Wandered the dense forest and boggy top for some time in an attempt to find highest point. Frightened by plastic Wild Boar archery target in the woods which i though was real.mick06/06/2010
With Jo, circular walk from Beck Wythop: path to Memorial Seat, followed track round base to south side then fought way through trees to Ladies Table, descended by better path going north, continued walk to Wythop Old Church (Chapel Ruins), Eskin, then along road past Old Scales, through wood back to start. Weather; sunny, cool breeze, views non-existent because of the trees.amblerbob02/04/2010
