Hesk Fell, The Pike, Wallowbarrow Crag, Wallowbarrow Heald, Iron Crag, White How, Great Worm Crag | keithouk | 12/02/2024 |
From Seathwaite following path to Higher Wallowbarrow then BW to the west and easily up to top with M. My penultimate Fellranger. | PeterD | 28/12/2023 |
With Eileen from Seathwaite church. My ante penultimate Fellranger | johnjennison | 23/09/2023 |
A 15.5 mile walk. High Tongue (234m) as a warm up, then Wallowbarrow Crag (292m), Wallowbarrow Heald (371m), Iron Crag (408m), Birker Fell - White How (444m), Great Worm Crag (427m), Birker Fell - Great Crag (333m), Broad Crag - Birker Fell (372m), Green Crag (488m), Crook Crag (469m), Great Whinscale (427m), Dow Crag (404m) and finally Harter Fell (Eskdale) (653m). The cloud was low all day so I'd opted for lower fells which worked well as these were all out of the cloud, except Harter. Harter did dip out a couple of times for photos but it was back in the cloud by the time I arrived. It was a tough going walk, ferns and bogs so quite a demanding day, but nice to explore this area in detail. I had some sun and some showers and some nice views in atmospheric conditions. Having walks down from Grassguards, I just climbed it from the highest point of the path. Not too hard going, nice views. | meltdiceburg | 12/07/2023 |
I'm glad that I found the little path as thus might have been a vegetated struggle otherwise. Superb views down Dunnerdale | Colin Crawford | 16/09/2022 |
Parked at Low Wallowbarrow, and took the bridleway through High Wallowbarrow, rounding the climbing crags on their west, where a descent path leads almost to the summit. | Nick Down1 | 24/04/2022 |
From the church at Seathwaite. My penultimate Fellranger hill. | Alan Caine | 01/04/2022 |
Folllowed easy path then gentle path over grass with Andy final Fellranger | colinfielding | 14/12/2021 |
Parked in layby on the minor road near Seathwaite. Walked over the 2 bridges to High Wallowbarrow and then up the good path behind the crag. Faint paths to the top. With Colin. | Andrew Pearson | 14/12/2021 |
From FP to NE (stepping stones) - thrash through shoulder high bracken, not recommended in Summer! Descended NW to path and then south on RoW along Rake Beck- better route! With Richard and Tony G. HP one of several rock outcrops. Met climbers. Onto Pen- no obvious route. | Denise | 03/09/2021 |
From the NE, tough going through shoulder high bracken for much of the way. Close to the summit bracken gives way to grass, heather and the distraction of bilberries. High point rock outcrop, good views. Descend W on path. With Denise and Tony. | RichardM | 03/09/2021 |
Drizzly but clear. Through the woods from Seathwaite, up the bridleway and up a gully to the summit. Found the proper path to come down. | BURGESS | 09/06/2021 |
Parked on lane at SD215 933, room for a few cars. Did a round trip of Brock Barrow, Caw, Pikes, Green Pikes and Wallowbarrow Crags. Returned via lanes. | dgresty | 10/04/2021 |
Another night time ascent | conanharrod | 24/12/2020 |
Seathwaite, Wallowbarrow Crag, Green Crag. | ijpowell | 24/09/2020 |
With GN from Seathwaite, via gorge to Grassguards, then South and off track to top.back to track and South to Low Wallbarrow. GN fetched car as I was limping badly. | trimarc2 | 23/02/2020 |
Like many others this is my last Fellranger. Room for a couple of cars at SD 22489 96016. Thrashed my way from the top of the bridleway to the summit, then found a decent if faint track leading to the bridleway at SD 22102 96914 | DC11main | 16/06/2019 |
There is a choice of 2 good parking places in Seathwaite. One is opposite the church (free) and one closer to the pub with a requested donation of £2. From these it is a simple to follow rfoute to the summit. 5.24km return, 90 minutes. | moorsman | 08/05/2019 |
From Seathwaite Hall, busy with rock climbers today, summit doesn't look like it gets much attention. | rhalstead | 21/04/2019 |
A round of mostly Synges from SD230974 | Jim.Fothergill | 27/03/2019 |
A walk through from Seathwaite Chapel to Eskdale Green. With Bryher, who was as always a great walking companion. | jenx | 26/02/2019 |
Straight up from the bridleway. On the way down to Seathwaite at the end of a good day out. Great views. | Moorponder | 01/01/2019 |
Parked at Seathwaite Church, along the beck, up from South side of Pen, back to bridge over Duddon, along to Wallowbarrow Crag, via Furness Way, then up to Wallowbarrow Heald and Iron Crag. TIP: when returning to Furness Way main track after Wallowbarrow, stay on left hand side of the big wall before the double gateway - much much easier up this left hand side (I did the right hand side and cussed - a lot!) A hard walk for something so low level as very tussocky underfoot. Again, ok re Bracken in December, would not enjoy in summer. Tough day, allow extra time. | nickywood1 | 28/12/2018 |
With Bev | simon and co | 10/10/2018 |
From High Wallabarrow, first in a round of 10 hills out to Great Whinscale in high winds and driving rain. Staying at the Wallaborrow camping barn. | jonglew | 17/12/2017 |
Revisit | Dave Geere | 24/08/2017 |
Started at 2pm with more cloud bubbling up. Climb not as steep as expected so more enjoyable. Just managed to reach top before rain arrived. Back at car 3.30pm having had good day's walking in best of weather. | Peak Rambler | 16/08/2017 |
From Seathwaite on to	Wallowbarrow Heald. | Eddie | 12/08/2017 |
Final Fellranger top, over 30 years since the first (Coniston Old Man) and over a year since penultimate top (Little Stand), which shows how seriously I take this list! Lovely walk from limited parking opposite School House in Seathwaite through oak woods on RoW. Tried to approach top from north on highest point on bridleway, seemed logical but this was a mistake as heavy going. Found best path down, which leaves the bridleway by a large flat topped boulder about 12 metres after single ash tree overhangs stone wall by BW, just after farmhouse on left. | Hillsidenick | 18/07/2017 |
My final Fellranger. Lovely walk up from Seathwaite. Small car park by church. With Evan, Sail, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 06/05/2017 |
Seathwiate, Wallowbarrow gorge, Fickle, Grassguards (gentrified)Wallowbarrow crag and lots of climbers. Rtn via Chris's farm and a cup of tea. | Karmakarl | 29/04/2017 |
From Newfield Inn and paths up Rake Beck. Nice Hill. | arranc | 20/03/2017 |
From Wallowbarrow Heald. Decent little Fell. On to Great Worm Crag. | Wycombe Wanderer | 15/12/2016 |
Parked just beyond Newfield inn. An 80 minute return walk to this vantage point via High Wallowbarrow. Why did Wainwright not include this one? Our last Fellranger - with GB. Into the Inn to celebrate also completion of the Outliers. | bolton | 08/12/2016 |
Parked in the small car park next to Seathwaite Parish Room at 229961 (£2 donation) W. along road to School House & then RoW over two footbridges to High Wallowbarrow Bridleway & then faint path to summit. Final Fellranger. (PM) | gerrybowes | 08/12/2016 |

From Newfield Inn with Des. Completed my Fell Ranger list although when I started it did not exist! Lovely walk via High Wallowbarrow. A perfect Lakeland fell. Thanks Des! Thinking of taking up hill bagging as a hobby. | mick | 24/11/2015 |
As Mick. But not finished the Fellrangers. | destaylor | 24/11/2015 |
A pleasant walk from Newfield Inn with a good summit view. | JohnW | 06/10/2015 |
Nice walk from Fickle steps, Grassguards and back via High Wallowbarrow and Pub. Wallowbarrow Heald and Iron Crag not recommended as extension to this walk. | PeteF | 25/07/2015 |
With Wallowbarrow Heald & Iron Crag from Seathwaite. | David Gradwell | 07/05/2015 |
Lovely walking from the road near the pub, along Rake Beck and great close up views of the crag. Great sunset from the top, didn't see a soul. | James McKnight | 24/01/2015 |
4 hour walk starting from Stickle Pike road top meant an unusual downhill road walk start to the day (sadly cloudy - no hoped for icy magic and sun above low fog like yesterday). We had once stayed in the cottage at High Wallowbarrow Farm and helped (largely watched) Chris the NT tenant farmer lambing. I may have been to the actual top before in the 80s/ 90's when I climbed here a few times, but cant recall - seems unlikely as it would have been extra uphill flounder from the top of the climbs in rock boots through heather and tussocks. | Chris Pearson | 30/12/2014 |
With Jo, walk from Seathwaite: Wallowbarrow Crag via track from High Wallowbarrow. Weather; cloudy with sunny intervals, cool breeze, moderate visibility. | amblerbob | 07/10/2014 |

Approx date | MM | 27/08/1991 |
Climbing with Colin Kenning & Vibram MC. Probably never went to actual summit which is set back from crag top. Hot, becoming hotter - sunburn. I was just beginning climbing so 2nd role. Got up Thomas -a trade route Severe which was great fun in EBs and mighty pleased to get up, but still clinging to the belay ledges for dear life until settled on the belay! Returned several times over the years to climb this sheltered south facing crag. | Chris Pearson | 15/06/1986 |
Solo | Vin | 05/08/1985 |
Over there for a climbing club dinner; did three routes on the crag too. | Aye Jimmy | 18/01/1975 |
