Parked near The Height on Height Road and did a night-time clockwise circuit of Whin Brow, Newton Fell North and Saskills, returning by the road past the reservoirs.
Reservoir road is now fenced to the S and the gap in the wall on the 1:25k heading up to Newton Fell N is for the blue writing so needed to be carefully crossed (there was a gate to the N of Reservoir House) | JK | 26/11/2023 |
From gate to north and down to gate to SW of house | Alan Moore | 29/10/2023 |
From road to north, parked by gate on road. Up field boundary. Visited all likely lumps both sides of wall. | cjo | 03/09/2023 |
From the road to the east. | clivevilla | 15/04/2023 |
Parked in the angler's parking area by the reservoir at SD 400 839. Up the road to the gate just before the reservoir house giving entry into the access land. Simple ascent of the field to the rocky crest of Whin Brow. Dropped back down to the road, then across the dam, to pick up FP over access land to the mast at the summit of Wainwright's Newton Fell North Top and the nearby cairn at Saskills. One wall without a stile to climb over both ways - losing its top stones! 2.5km with 120m of ascent to bag all three, taking just 1 hour. | silveracorn_alan | 27/10/2022 |
Rushed up at 6.15pm from the fisherman's car park after Saskills in the dying grey half hour at the fag-end of a damp grey drippy day. Reservoir cottage -in an attractive rural spot - but looks cold -goodness knows what its EPC must be? If the rigours of this small climb are overwhelming, or a fisherman over-reacts to a monster catch, there is a defibrillator down at Newton village hall-where I had been stuck indoors doing a first course all day including learning how to use such things. | Chris Pearson | 24/10/2022 |
Climbed from High Newton and reservoir once rain stopped at the end of a very wet day | trimarc2 | 12/10/2022 |
From the anglers' parking area alongside the reservoir to the west. The whole area between the parking place and the summit is open access so there are no problems reaching it. Access can be made through a gate immediately alongside Reservoir House. | moorsman | 18/05/2022 |
With Andy parked by the reservoir great views once again. | colinfielding | 02/12/2021 |
Parked on road to reservoirs, through unlocked gate and up to the top, Again with most of the tops around here -great views. With Colin. | Andrew Pearson | 02/12/2021 |
From High Newton Reservoirs, through unlocked gate just southwest of Reservoir House. Then simple pathless walk up access land. Back same way. | KeithByTheC | 08/06/2021 |
Through gate by Reservoir House and Access Land to summit. Had a nice chat to the lady who lives in Reservoir House who pointed out the gate to me. No cows in the field today (just chickens). With Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 07/06/2021 |
Gummer's How, Birch Fell, Raven's Barrow, Whin Brow, Newton Fell North, Saskills, Staveley Fell | keithouk | 03/05/2021 |
Narrow gateways off Height Road straight to the top. Wall stile near the summit. | Moorponder | 18/04/2021 |
Roadside parking at SD 4063 8328. Field gate at the road junc, then across sheep pastures. Several stone walls to be negotiated, 4 I think. | jonglew | 04/12/2018 |
Able to drive down the lane from the road bend and ascend from the reservoir. Then walked on to Saskills. | JohnW | 19/03/2018 |
A short afternoon's dawdle taking in Newton Fell and Whitstone too.even managed a doze for half an hour on the top. A beautiful surprizingly warm day forthe time o year. ( didn't expect to stumble across a pillbox though | Shutterlag | 02/02/2018 |

5 degrees C, overcast, still, snow from last night on Coniston fells etc. Climbed from gate on lane to east - then used good crossing points on walls. | Wycombe Wanderer | 04/01/2017 |
With the WOs. | jenx | 08/12/2016 |
Parked at junction to East of Whin Brow (nr Pt 157). Used a series of gates to gain the upper wall line and follow to summit rocks. Onward then climbing a couple of walls to descend to High Newton reservoir. Good parking here used by fishermen. Over the dam wall and good path (with one wall climb) to summits of Saskills and Newton Fell North. Back same way to reservoir then road walking out to the remaining Newton Fells off south. | nordicstar | 08/12/2016 |
From layby below reservoir at SD 39956 83825. No obstacles. | David Gradwell | 26/02/2016 |
From road junction to NE of High Newton. Metal railings gate, then past WW2 pillbox for a look. There's another one in High Newton so an invasion via Morecambe Bay must have seemed likely... | Aye Jimmy | 02/04/2015 |
Newton Bus stop to Lindale over White Stone (via caravan site), Saskills, Whin Brow, Newton Fell and Dixon Heights. | Eddie | 12/01/2015 |
From Newton Fell I dropped to Tow Top Road then turned right onto Height Road. A series of gates by a sheepfold at SD406835 led into fields with a vague track up to the summit with just the wall separating the access land and highest point posing any difficulties. Thought it looked quite impressive from High Newton, less so atop. | Jake994 | 24/12/2014 |
From the Anglers car park next to High Newton reservoir. Straight up and to summit of WHIN BROW and down then across the road through Reservoir straight up the hill to NEWTON FELL NORTH(Saskills)and on to White Stones crags. Vary warm with Sunny spell, very little wind. Easy walk to these two summits. | Hill Wanderer | 27/05/2014 |
