Lovely. Rocky staircase path twisting up through the crags and oak trees to a grand viewpoint of mountains and lakes which under today's moody skies with sunlight L likened to one of those romanticism oil painting of mountains which aimed to 'capture emotions such as apprehension and awe, and especially the sublimity and beauty of nature'. All today's view lacked was a ruined castle, a boat on the lake, and a few more shafts of sunlight-all easily added as extras in oil as was often done. Blackberries not quite ripe yet in hedgerows on 2 mile quiet road walk back to Waterhead. Unbelievably 3 years since writing above discovered the famous Turner had indeed painted this very view from the summit, which then became one of 20 Georgian viewing stations in the Lakes. ( best looked at through a Claude Glass ( convex mirror).Chris Pearson21/08/2016
