Small detour from the 'pennine journey ' path. | Moorponder | 01/01/2024 |
Through the farm and FP from near the bridge. | robertphillips | 07/10/2023 |
As Moorsman. Loads of slurry just before the start of the woodland path. | chrisbien | 11/10/2021 |
No parking beyond the last house in the village, and certainly not any near the river bridge. Best to park in the village itself. Cross the bridge and follow the path west. Once through the farmyard look for a fingerpost to your right. The path doesn't go through either of the gates in front of you, instead it enters the wood and follows the field edge, exitting the trees at a gate in the summit field. Simple, short climb to the top from here. | moorsman | 26/07/2020 |
2/6 From Warcop, Vicarage Bank, Trickle Banks, Sourlands Hill, Great Musgrave Hill, Thorny Hill and Huber Hill. Used the Pennine Journey and other footpaths to link these six together, made a nice 5 hour round. Bit slick with mud in a few places. | nickywood1 | 18/01/2020 |
13.23 ROW from East | vegibagger | 02/01/2020 |
From Sandford. Easy path to summit field. | RobertP | 06/01/2019 |
Parked roadside in Sandford (NY 7284 1615). Through Blacksyke Farm on a RoW then across a pasture to the top. | jonglew | 07/12/2018 |
Nice chat with old farmer tending cattle in barn on bridle path | cjo | 03/02/2018 |
3rd top on 'The Warcop 7' tump circuit with Darren from Great Musgrave. This hill is one of over 600 ice shaped drumlins in the Eden valley - which are elongated in a NW to SE direction. A 2014 paper from Aberdeen Uni tested the use of ground penetrating radar on 5 Eden valley drumlins to try to understand their internal composition to contribute to an ongoing debate about how drumlins are formed at the ice /bed interface - are they depositional, erosional or deformational. They discovered a chaotic internal till arrangement at the the stoss (upstream end)and evidence of dipping layered stratification on the lee side -where ice pressure is less. Rather nicely, I feel, the jury are still out on the precise method of drumlin formation. Nice that nature still has a few mysteries to baffle the 'experts'. | Chris Pearson | 29/07/2016 |
Park 100m before the bridge. Bridleway from Blacksyke enters summit field. | jimbloomer | 26/09/2015 |
Roadside parking opposite anglers' car park S of Sandford and just N of bridge. Over bridge, through Black Sike farm, up wooded lane (delightful bluebells) to exit at gate onto pasture. Vague summit, gently rounded top. | Aye Jimmy | 16/05/2015 |
Parked just over bridge, near to bunga. Room for a car. Jogged past farm and up wide track/RoW to gate. Cut up onto hill top. Great viewpoint of main Pennines and lower tops. | nordicstar | 31/03/2014 |
