Circular walk from layby next to water treatment buildings at the top of Brow Edge. Then Bigland tops and back. I've done this many a time but forgotten to log it.RowanP01/03/2024
Ladder stile at SD 36682 84931, collapsed wall at SD 36680 84901. Don't be fooled by the cairn.Martin R11/01/2024
With Margo. Walk 17 of AW's Outlying Fells. Quite muddy and missed the stile over the allotment wall, but made it. Good views from the summit, improved by visiting the cairn. Cold but sunny day. Onto Bigland Barrow.James McKnight03/12/2022
Bigland Barrow (AW's Outlying Fells Walk 17) visiting The North Top, The Tower, and an early diversion to bag Old Backbarrow. A round trip of 9km with 300m ascent, taking 2h 20m.silveracorn_alan30/10/2022
Ladder stile then broken wall in north corner of allotment gives easy access to the summit. Solo.Dangerous Dave27/12/2021
Bus to Newby Bridge, Old Backbarrow (with permission from farmer) Bigland Barrow N Top and then paths to Wainwright summit before heading down Backbarrow in ghastly weather for bus back to Kendal. Good use of poor weather.trimarc208/12/2021
Awful near AW’s ‘stile’. Arrived at first light to secure the only 1 x fully-off-tarmac parking at SD3675086450. Canny Hill, then BW SW (some parking here if you beat the Builder Bobs to it), OK to wall at SD3651585007, after which ground trails and map do not correspond. AW’s ‘stile’ is hard to find – it’s a through-stane type, hidden under dense trees, near to a tilted rock slab on the enclosure side. Two yellow-topped waymarker poles utterly useless as only visible once you’re at them. Good FP to Bigland Barrow and to pt 182, but both deteriorate into a myriad of faint tracks in tough veg in the depression between them where people fan out looking for AW’s stile. From pt 182 a thin FP descends NNE to a collapse in wall, into trees and access to stile on PFP. Couldn’t be bothered with Old Buckbarrow after that.Isbjorn08/10/2021
Parking alongside the start of the bridleway to the north. Excellent track as far as the second open access gate, Turn left up alongside the wall to where a stile gives access into the wood. Turn right and leave the wood by a breach in the wall. Summit just ahead of you.moorsman15/07/2021

From the right hand bend above Low Brow, where an elusive footpath descends a flight of steps, crosses a plank bridge, and joins a maze of other paths. The way becomes clear once the hill comes into view. The lookout post only becomes visible near the summit and is now distinctly rickety. I followed animal tracks to the pleasant North Top and back to Low BrowNick Down105/05/2019
Verge parking in minor toad opp lane/Bridleway to NE in Newby Bridge. Easier now that someone’s moved the boulders to allow off roading. With a Bryher walked the lane that got increasingly muddy, before branching off to climb wall/wall stole into copse then out through break in wall to summit. Old Backbarrow on way out.nordicstar05/02/2019
After Old Backbarrow after roadside parking in Backbarrow.jonglew04/12/2018
2nd top of three with Lesley, we started the walk from Haverthwaite and made our way to Bigland Barrow (WO)and headed North sometimes on an old track and then through some tussocks (but dry) till climbing up to a ridge and then shorter grass and outcrops to reach the summit area, climbing the Flake and visiting the high ground near and at the cairn. Nice top! We descended to the fenceline and crossed over (Lesley indignantly falling on the bracken)and then following good footpath that heads Nne, heading for Old Backbarrow...Dazingdale11/08/2018
Newby Bridge - Old Backbarrow - BIGLAND BARROW NORTH TOP - Bigland Barrow - Hazelrigg. Wainwright's 'Bigland Barrow' Outlying Fells walk.citygent08/06/2018
Lovely sunny day, but awful conditions underfoot. Had been the intention to do the nearby “Oldbackbarrow” but as it had a resident herd of cows I gave it a miss. Fenton and cows aren’t a good mix. He’s scared of them and they seem to know it.Chris Terrey 26/01/2018

An interesting walk from the same start as Aye Jimmy near a small mast. The area can be boggy at times, and although the ground is rough with heather, bracken and soggy parts, today was quite easy. I walked this with Wainwright's Outlying Fell Bigland Barrow.Neil Haslewood16/10/2015
