From the N. Parked in pull-in by enclosed picnic site at SD 49848 76130 & along RoW to T-junction at 499755 - Turned left & after about 10m turned right & up a faint path through trees & some bramble to gap in wall at SD 49899 75457 - Through wall & then about 20m S. to summit near cairn. | gerrybowes | 29/02/2024 |
From Summerhouse Hill. Along footpath through the wood. Shortly after path comes in from SW found a path that doubles back slighly to pass through wall, then easily through trees to the summit. Descended north then east through easy mossy gap in wall. | KeithByTheC | 25/02/2024 |
Well, after reading the preceding reports I was hopefull of a gentle amble. How wrong I was. Roadside parking in Yealand Redmayne and an easy amble up to the trees. Then ... don't turn right (north) whatever you do. The RofW eventually disappears into vegetation that tears at your skin with every step.
Took me something like an hour to fight my way along the legal line. Coming back (by the southern paths) was a lot better with a myriad of quite confusing tracks. Pond is invisible due to vegetation so make sure that you are adept in map reading of carrying a GPS. | moorsman | 13/07/2023 |
A great surprise - found a path to the top and one down! (return visit after close fly-by last week). From Yealand Conyers RC church. For 1km on fps heading N then as main f'path drops right take the semi overgrown one straight on signed Round Hill -cut up left through trees in @75 m picking a way up limestone band -emerging on thin path by wooden f'path post -follow this twisting path left all way to summit cairn.(passing a larger lower cairn on a rise to right). From summit, being curious I followed this thin path easily N through trees along the ridge with old wall on left -wondering if I was going to come across a dead end and a bag of rotting wooden footpath posts alongside the skeletal remains of the footpath team who had pioneered this unlikely route thus far. The Round Hill loop fp on OS maps bears no resemblance to the location of this actual path. Continued N down a 4-foot rock step where the path emerged on the substantial wide fp leading down right to Home Farm and Leight | Chris Pearson | 20/10/2022 |
From Summerhouse hill, along overgrown paths, didn't get to summit this time due to vegetation, recommend winter or spring for this one. On to Thrang Brow. | Flatfield | 16/10/2022 |
No summit! The day was pressing and we had a way to go back to Beatham, and had gone astray in the woods coming from Summerhouse Hill -meeting a friendly chap exercising his 6 spaniels who said I don't normally meet anyone here- we could see why given the limestone jungle ahead. By the time we backtracked and found the fp we realised our 1:50000 map was not up to the job of fine navigation off piste. We pushed on to have another failure trying to find the row through the caravan park up onto Hale Fell -so walked the lane back to Betham to end our 18km exploration of Silverdale limestone hills, woods and villages. | Chris Pearson | 13/10/2022 |
Walked with Jules from Yealand Redmayne | Grey Hare | 20/09/2022 |

Came at this firm the footpath to the north at Yealand Storrs. had to overshoot the summit to begin with before I found a good place to cut up onto the upper overgrown path ten head back north to the high point. An interesting place indeed. | Father Ted | 16/04/2019 |
