After a wet morning checking out 3 venues for Primary Schools Orienteering, incl Ulverston Leisure Centre. Impressive Buddhist centre - both a golden temple and the gothic Conishead Priory. £900K of Lottery Funding and volunteer graft has helped restoration. 3 international volunteers were half heartedly loping brambles in the rain -looking miserable, and seemed to be doubting they were on a path to enlightenment? At 12:30 I was on time for the daily free 15 min guided meditation session based on 8 Steps to Happiness. Sadly, I was in an un-Buddhist-like rush, to get back to our Troutbeck cat sit for check out, so instead enjoyed 800 steps to happiness on a lovely mindfulness walk up through the deep lush carpet of garlic through the woods from N. An aim of the centre is to work for world peace through compassion. Their neighbours -Oxley Lighting- are also busy working for world peace but by providing lighting and electronics for military fighter jets, tanks, drones, ships and subsChris Pearson25/03/2024
From Temple overflow car park. N via lake to N of hill then up through trees. Lots of people in the car parks. None up the hillMinto28/12/2023
Up through trees from track junction North of summit. Great views early on the sunny frosty morning, deer grazing by tower.cjo15/10/2023

Up through woods from SD2998076370 on faint path.Isbjorn11/07/2022
Walked around site roads starting on S side. Couldn't find an obvious way up so in end just climbed through woods from NE. Straight over top and down NNW side where I found a sort of path. Able to get out through thin line of trees near main entrance for bus back to Ulverstontrimarc207/04/2022
New Year's day walk. Parked free at coast (Coopers lane) but it appears there is public access dawn to dusk to the Buddhist Retreat/ Old Priory free carpark which offers free access to the woodlands and the tea shop in the old priory building. We left the woodland path by 'the lake' to steeply ascend pathless woodland SW onto grassy summit area with stone tower and good views.Denise 01/01/2022
From the beach via Beach Wood, then along The Lake until able to cross the stream and ascend through open woodland to the grassy summit. Blue sky sunshine and good views. Lots of visitors in grounds but none on the hill top.RichardM01/01/2022
Great little hill. Parked in overflow carpark and walked up lane on E leading N. We were advised not t use the lane heding up through the houses, so reached the top up through the open woodland.GordonAdshead13/11/2021
This hill is inside a welcoming Buddhist Monastery The gardens on which the hill stands are brown signposted from the road and open to visitors from dawn till dusk. Their website confirms this, and the cafe and temple are also available to visitors. Drive into the monastery and park in the overflow car park. Walk back 100m to the actual monastery building entrance path and turn right along a small access road. This doubles back through the woods to reach a large house entrance gate (open). Turn right uphill along a mud track leading to the summit point. Was approached by a resident monk meditating near the temple who offered to take a photo of me alongside the summit! So access is no problems at all. PS .... the gap in the hedge is now closed.moorsman13/05/2021
1/2 Parked at beach at Bardsea and walked along coastal path to reach Conishead Priory, wandered round the site, then round the main road and back in the North Entrance to end of wall and tucked into woodland there to the top. Sunny spot for lunch at the tower with great view. Then out to main road, over to Bardsea village as up onto Bardsea park via the Gate on South lane. Over the ladder stile over corner of golf course and up to the Sally Army tower. A day of towers.nickywood107/11/2020
Parked in the Manjushri car park had a walk to the point , when leaving got stopped asked what we were doing as it is private land (said we where lost) Another in the Bag.. :)Philposs28/02/2020
Almost dark. Parked just inside gate by NW lodge by sign saying cars parked there will be clamped. A dog walker told me the public are allowed to walk in the grounds, though I'm not sure if he meant to the summit. Easy walk up the field and through enchanting wood. Called up to the tower but Rapunzel was either out or couldn't hear me: typical of my luck. Having said that, at least my car wasn't clamped. Last fell of the day.Wycombe Wanderer28/01/2019
Parked on grass verge S side entrance to the Buddhist temple. Nice gap in the conifers to slip through right at the entrance, and straight up through the woods.jonglew10/12/2018
11th and final tump of the day on a 32.2km loop from Askham station to Ulverston, climbing Park Knotts, High Haume Beacon, Hagg Hills, The Billings, Yarlside, Roosecote Hill, Scarbarrow Hill, Beacon Hill, Birkrigg Common and Bardsea Park, heading East to drop onto lane then North to entrance to Priory, using gap in hedge to quickly gain access to the pine trees then using them to traverse across before emerging into pasture to climb past Tower to mound of earth, highest natural point being immediately around it. Descent through lovely Ramson smothered woodland, dropping onto track leading to lane out of the estate and back onto cycle route 700, following this all the way back to Ulverston!Dazingdale31/03/2018
