Wainwright Howgills Walk 13David Berry06/09/2023
From Tebay in thick morning mist with a promise of sunshine, up the road to Tebaygill then a handy ATV track all the way to Blease Fell. Continued on an ATV to Uldale Head, still in mist. We thought about calling it a day, but the sun was threatening to finally show its face so we went over to Docker Knott and Hand Lake. As we descended northwards the cloud cleared and the sun shined bright over the Howgill horizon. We picked up the track to Long Gills and then the minor road back to Tebay. 3.5hrs round.summitter03/09/2023
A crossing of the Howgills from Sedbergh to Tebay with Christine, Eric, and Steve visiting Winder, Arant Haw, Calders, Bram Rigg Top, The Calf, Bush Howe, Fell Head, Uldale Head, and Blease Fell. A perfect day for walking on the velvet turf of the Howgills, although distant views compromised somewhat by the poor air quality. 20km with 1050m ascent in 7hours.silverwolf_alan24/03/2022

12:30, 13 degrees, overcast, showers, humid, westerlies at Gaisgill. Via footpath and Hare Shaw; boggier than usual for these parts. Disturbed a pair of owls (short-eared I think) and distinctly heard flapping as they flew off. On to Uldale Head.Wycombe Wanderer05/09/2020
Parked just near the beck 624 995 and did a round of Blease Fell, Uldale Head, Hand Lake, Docker Knott, Simons Seat and Linghaw, rebagging Fell Head en route. Straight up Blease Fell got rid of the cobwebs at the start.clivevilla28/07/2020

1/2 Parked Carlingill and walked up the stream then turned up the fell beside the intake wall. Straight up not too bad, then curved round head of valley to Uldale Head. Then storm Ciara made her advanced party known to us and we retreated to the car carefully! Pretty side valleys.nickywood108/02/2020
Blease Fell, Uldale Head, Hand Lake, Docker Knott, Simon's Seatkeithouk22/12/2019
From Uldale Head. Followed an ATV track down to the head of Grains Gill, then south-west up onto the un-marked summit. To descend, followed a fence north-east to a gate, then a very steep ascent, partially through bracken, to the field north of the stand of trees - not recommended! Then back south on the lane to the car. With AT.Man of Kernow114/09/2019
Last on Round from low carlingill on fine autumn day, now steep descent to start.cjo07/09/2019
A direct ascent from the S is very steep and in summer would involve a battle through bracken on the lower slopes. I did see a good path round the head of the valley (Weasel Gill and Grains Gill) and the start of this is mid-way between the bridge and the parking space S of the bridge. Wish I had taken it - would have made a lovely walk rather than a struggle.carole engel24/02/2019
From Longdale. Langdale Knott -> Middleton trig -> Simon's Seat -> Docker Knott -> Hand Lake with Rick Salter. Then solo on to Uldale Head and here. Dropped steeply down to the road for a pick up.jonglew17/12/2018

9.2 mile circular from near Fairmile Gate, walked north along road and followed trail near Carlingill Beck, forded a few streams then climbed steeply up Uldale Heads slopes using a mixture of sheep trails and ancient tracks to col, headed west to bag Blease Fell and unlisted Hare Shaw (23m Prominence) with its cairn, then descended back to col and climbed up onto Uldale Head, descended very steeply to Blakethwaite Bottom, up onto Hand Lake and then Docker Knott, then an easy ascent onto Fell Head (2nd time bagged), descended via Whins End, forded stream then back across to car park. Very hot and sunny exhausting day, we shortened the walk for this reason. Easy Howgill terrain underfoot throughout mainly on ATV trails.DanTrig05/08/2018
With Bryher. An early start on a scorching day. Circuit of tops around Carlin Gill. Quite spectacular deep valleys.jenx29/06/2018

With Jo, from Tebay: tracks over Powson Knott to Blease Fell, then onto Uldale Head, returning over Rispa Pike and Weather Hill. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility.amblerbob17/09/2016
Ascended from Tebay, descended via Hare Shaw.JohnW07/08/2016
From Carlin Gill, across soggy pasture below tree plantings to gate, then steep fence and steep hillside. Cairn, but highest point maybe 80m to N. Road to Carlin from Hugill partly flooded and surface damaged.Aye Jimmy10/12/2015
Parked south of bridge over Carlin Gill then a direct ascent of Blease Fell followed by Hare Shaw before continuing to Uldale Head before descending to cross Carlin Gill at the ford.Dugswell205/09/2015
Parked at cattle grid at Fairmile Gate but there's what appears to be a purpose made parking area a little further north. Linghaw, Fell Head, Simon's Seat, Docker Knott, Hand Lake, Uldale Head, Blease Fell. A lot of up and down and not really a logical walk, but bagged 6 new tops and revisited a mountain so satisfying from a box ticking perspective.ijpowell21/08/2015

Parking at Carlingill (629ft). Do not follow the river but stay on the level of the parking area and find the good path leading to the forded river crossing. New planting makes a direct ascent difficult so follow the path from the ford right up to the col and double back to the summit.moorsman18/06/2015
