3/3. A revisit to Melmerby Fell as it gave a great way to drop down onto Cuns Fell and Catterpallot Hill. Then straight down South West from Catterpallot finding useful gates all the way down to the footpath which leads back to Memerby via Gale Hall Farm. A nice round achieved in 3.5 hours on a warm February day. Good views. | nickywood1 | 18/02/2024 |

Along ridge for another 500m, then steeply down SW from double gate at 652 372 to Cuns Fell. Continue WSW to access land boundary wall, over gate and quick out + back to Catterpallot Hill. Tiny cairn in grass with good lakeland views. Straightforward from Cuns fell and onto Cross fell. With R & CJO. | Denise | 14/11/2021 |
On way to Cross Fell with Richard and Denise, ticking a couple of Tumps and Elmsie on the way. Still needs a revist to complete Elmsie. | cjo | 14/11/2021 |
From Cuns Fell via col where there's a convenient gate in the DSW. Improved pasture, a few rocks at high point. Back to the main ridge via the interestingly smooth rounded ridge on the SE side of the valley. | RichardM | 14/11/2021 |
from Ousby via Maiden Way, descent over Cuns Fell & Catterpallot Hill | IWC | 21/08/2021 |
From Cuns Fell and return to car. 2.5 hours. | Wycombe Wanderer | 08/09/2020 |
11.2 mile circular from Gamblesby, walked along road to Melmerby then along dead end road SE picking up path through woods up to Meikle Awfell, from there an annoying descent followed by trails fording 2 little streams along the access land boundary until the col between Cuns Fell and Caterpallot Hill, climbed over wonky gate into private land up to the summit of Caterpallot Hill, returned back to col and then a long ascent up to Cuns Fell's rocky summit, then followed ATV tracks onto Melmerby Fell, from summit an easy, not particularly boggy trail takes you all the way to Fiend's Fell, from the trig we descended NW across easy ground joining the byway and following it easily back to Gamblesby. The day started cloudy and showery but all cloud cleared when we got onto the higher tops, only saw 3 offroad bikers on the byway at the end, no one else, nice views into the Lakes, Scotland and towards The Cheviot. | DanTrig | 02/08/2020 |

From mapped track to NW - good parking NY 624370 (end of road). Thru' gate to NW of farm (NY629365) and thru' further gates into field NY 6331 3649. This had cows and young calves grazing. Farmer soon appeared and challenged me in a friendly manner, letting me continue. However, he would prefer to be asked then he can direct visitors, avoiding fields with cattle - PLEASE ASK | carole engel | 09/09/2019 |
From road end out of Melmerby. Track onto fellside then missing the sharp turn west went straight up Blea Scar to Knapside Hill then across to Melmerby Fell.South along the ridge and down to a gate at the wall junction then steep down to Cuns Fell. From end of lane E out of Melmerby. Through wood then brisk walk across fields in encroaching darkness. More direct way back using farm track. | Aye Jimmy | 20/11/2015 |
Parking at Melmerby Lane end. Follow the bridleway as far as where it enters the open access area. Go through the gate on the right across the field to beyond Rake Beck. It is possible (though a trespass) to use farm gates and follow a direct line across the fields/rough pastures to the summit, saving a lengthy detour. | moorsman | 30/09/2015 |
From Melmerby lane end, good parking for at least three cars. Follow track and FP up and then delightful path/old track back up to 600m. ATV goes further. Onto Melmerby fell via Knapside Hill, then on to Cuns Fell and Catterpallot Top. Easy ridge back to farm track and Gale Farm. FP out. Super views to Lakes and the lower Eden valley tonight. | nordicstar | 02/09/2014 |
