Westerton Hill from GR: NZ 23939 31032ronaldo33330/10/2021
Cycling from home. Visited Brandon Hill first & then Westerton Hill (my 58th visit since start of first lockdown).ger21/02/2021
Easy parking ditrectly alongside the tower. Slightly behind the tower is a tall garden wall so it is not possible to what is behind. Top taken as alongside the wall.moorsman25/10/2020
Surprisingly interesting summit and viewsAdrian03/08/2020
Unusual top above surrounding low lying ground.Campbell Singer05/01/2020
Land on other side of wall North of tower, where there is a large concrete reservoir, is Northumbrian Water's. There may be a natural slight high point between wall & reservoir - another two higher points look to be on made up ground.ger14/05/2019
High point in small paddock behind and very close to house - NZ 24058 31106. Was dusk for me, otherwise wouldn't have dared without permission. Initial access via gate at NZ 2413 3106carole engel31/12/2018
Often pass just below summit when local cycling. As reaching the road high point corresponded to achieving 100000m total ascent (walking & cycling), so far this year, I revisited high point on tower side of wall.ger27/12/2018
Passing nearby so couldn't resist.summitsup19/12/2018

Hill Bagging 5 Durham TUMPS by bike. 80k ride. Rode bike up rough drive to Tower. High point appears to be wall junction just behind (N) of Tower.John Lee16/10/2017
On way to Durham so a detour for the viewnordicstar26/07/2017

Excellent TuMP, if only they all had such interesting summit features as this! Easy roadside parking near observation tower. Natural top probably by stone wall. There is a small mound other side of wall on private land (don't ask) but this looks man made to me - pile of earth against wall?Hillsidenick10/04/2017
Marathon training said I need to do 18 miles and, according to Google Maps this is 8.6 miles from home. Perfect! Good panoramic views from around here.madaddo19/03/2017

Wall junction visited as others. Wonder what Thomas Wright would have made of gravitational waves, dark matter & dark energy.ngthack25/02/2016
No danger of flooding in this villagepeebs18/02/2016
Parked near tower in Westerton. High point round back near junction of walls, but wall too high and too public to see what's on other side. A plaque on the tower explains: 'This observatory tower was erected by Thomas Wright, born at Byers Green 1711 died there 1786. To commemorate his treatise 'Theory of the Universe' published 1750 this tablet was placed by the University of Durham 1950.'Aye Jimmy09/11/2014
Summit by wall? Couldn't see over to know whether higher ground beyondBramley18/07/2014
On way at night to Durham. called by and parked at foot of tower. The walk up the grass bank is easy, views from the top into the night pretty expansive around the surrounding areas. Not bad at a P69, deserves better status!nordicstar29/01/2014
Good view and interesting observation at the topmcbiydw210/11/2013
Being in the rain shadow of the Pennines nearby Bishop Auckland receives only about half of the average annual UK rainfall amount. On average 643.3 millimetres (25.33 in) of rainfall falls whereas the average annual rainfall for the UK is 1,125 millimetres (44.3 in)Chris Pearson24/06/2012
