Parked in the layby at 75944 15493. Nobody about so walked up the road past two barriers then up some concrete steps on to the flattish top. Did not see anybody at all.clivevilla20/10/2022
Accessed in a blinding wind driven snow storm. Access weekend so no red flags. Rang the number on the notice board which took me through to the gatehouse. Was told that prior permission is necessary to visit the hill and he couldn't give me permission himself. However, he told me that there was no way he was venturing outside to challenge me under such appalling conditions.moorsman06/02/2022
Started on bend in minor road to SWconanharrod12/05/2021
Parked in A66 W-bound lay-by opposite entrance, walked round one barrier, ducked under the second and a brisk walk to the top. No activity anywhere and the range's Christmas break seemed like a good time to nab this one.milimana27/12/2020

Parked by cattle grid at entrance (NY 7598 1551) on a quiet Sunday morning. Ducked under a few barriers on the walk up the road to the ammo dump. Lots of CCTV, but no-one seemed bothered.jonglew16/12/2018
Lots of tree planting been going on - including at the summit.Wycombe Wanderer23/09/2018
Warm and sunny via tourist route on a non firing Sunday.Dugswell206/05/2018
Walk up track past barriers. Summit by lookout tower.cjo23/12/2017
Met a farmer coming through the barrier who said everyone is off for Easter except for the guardhouse. So on the basis of an empt range and no overt warnings nipped up.DC11main15/04/2017
Marginal Tump. Need a volunteer to survey the col.mae24/12/2016
Heavily 'defended'. First attempt was blocked by 1000(or was it 2000?)sheep blocking the farmyard path on approach from Warcop with Darren on 'a Warcop 7' tumps circuit. Then by a seriously serious grass verge walk along the A66 for 200 metres. Then thwarted by red fags flying. Rang the guardhouse on phone by gate to seek unlikely permission as it was only a short way. Explained our request. Puzzled guard on other end went away to check. Was obviously told to recheck so came back and re-asked. You are who?, You are where? You want to what? Finally got the understandable No answer. At 6.15pm we were back as their time was up (according to range notice on web) but the person who takes the flags down was running late.Rang again and got a surprised Yes - so up we went. Heavily fortified Ammunition Store near top had a big sign listing prohibited fire or spark inducing devices banned from being taken into the compound, including mobile phones. Think they forgot to mention magnifying glassesChris Pearson29/07/2016
Parked opposite the entrance on Sunday afternoon. Walked up the access road past various barriers, and up steps to raised summit area next to watch tower etc... Brenda was disappointed not to be detained by some soldiers, but no one about!Fisky Boy08/05/2016

Christmas Day afternoon, pouring down, nobody at home - the lads all out filling sandbags and building flood defences in Appleby, Carlisle, Keswick etc. etc.Aye Jimmy25/12/2015
Sunday afternoon. All quiet.jimbloomer18/10/2015
Driving past on a Sunday evening, there's parking by the entrance on both sides of the A66. No-one about, red flags down, no fences or gates to climb, five minutes walk from the main road to the top. There are fenced-off areas just a few metres away on both sides, but the MoD are to be congratulated for sometimes allowing access to this summit. An interesting place with good views, but I probably won't go back.Pete R24/05/2015
Driving past Sun eve, flags down, all clear, checked bylaws at gate and strolled up. Nice bonus on drive home!RHW26/04/2015
Camp appeared closed down before Easter. Compound gates shut, no flag, no staff around to ask. Checked by laws posted at gate, seemed on basis of inactivity access would be ok. Left car outside barrier and walked in up road. All the way to hill and then from a hard standing area at roadside up steps to flagpole and watch tower. Still no one. Goodish views but mainly of range area. This was a nice area once. Back quickly out way I came in 15 minutes.nordicstar27/03/2015
