From Shutlingsloe. Good paths. Over low fence near summit an into woods. Not entirely clear which tree marks the summit. Walked down steep, unofficial mountain bike trails South from summit to join lovely RoW through the woods. | KeithByTheC | 17/12/2023 |
7.6 mile circular walk from Teggs Nose reservoir, with Val. Teggs Nose-> Brink-> Ely Brow-> Whitehills | steveb2006 | 02/12/2023 |
3 of 5 on 9 mile hike starting at teggs nose country car park. From teggs nose I went through Macclesfield forest from hacked way lane. Atmospheric in the forest with the rays from the sun shining through. Lovely | The-Z-Man | 09/07/2023 |
From the corner of Charity Lane. ROW to SJ 9678 7266, from where a path leads to the summit and mound. Visited both. | PGCE | 02/07/2023 |
From Teggs Nose CP through woods to S then NW along track. No views due to fog but very atmospheric in the forest. With whole family. | RoguePulsar | 29/11/2022 |
From the Teggs Nose Car Park we walked on a road for a bit then onto a path that went up and down and through a stream then over a stile to the left over a small field then over another stile on to a road where there was a big house on it we went up the road into a dark forest on the right of it, the forest was creepy and foggy then we exited the forest onto a path on the left which took us to the top. With whole Family | speedyclimber | 29/11/2022 |
From Teggs Nose Country Park cp. Brink, Ely Brow and Whitehills. Outstandingly warm and sunny autumn afternoon with time off work unexpectedly. Lovely afternoon. | Lazylizzie | 13/10/2022 |
Accessed via various ROWs and bike tracks from Tegg's Nose Visitor Centre. Happy for others to determine the actual summit point ... I reckon we covered all likely alternatives. | summitter | 19/05/2022 |
Long day out. Circular walk Whetstone Ridge, Shining Tor, Cats Tor, Waggonshaw Brow, Brink, Whitehills and Shutlinsloe. | Arbie | 24/07/2021 |
Shutlingsloe, Whetstone Ridge, Whitehills, Tegg's Nose | keithouk | 23/05/2021 |
For a change I went over Whitehills today on the way from Macclesfield Forest to Teggs Nose. Nothing to recommend the hill as it is covered in trees but the lane is pleasant. | Alan Moore | 20/12/2020 |
Walked from Shutlingsloe. Wandered around in the trees looking for the most suitable highest point. Found the old summit mound too. Walked back to Clough House car park through the woods. Solo. Wet! | Dangerous Dave | 15/07/2020 |
Circular walk from Chapel CP with Brentnalls. Sat and had a beer on the summit in the early evening sunshine. | hannah&steven | 21/06/2020 |
From Teggs Nose Country Park cp. Via Teggs Nose onto Whitehills, Ely Brow and Brink | Longwojo | 16/02/2020 |
Parked in car park to S of Bottom-of-the-Oven and followed road NW to Chapel House Farm, then took track NW. | Wheelsy | 30/12/2019 |
Parked tight against banking by bend on Charity Lane at 962731 - Up bridleway alongside edge of forest to high point of track - Over wire fence & wandered around the trees adjacent to the highest part of the track; high could be anywhere! (S) | gerrybowes | 12/07/2019 |
From start of track to South. Only room for one car at a push. A quick up and back. Top is in the trees beyond the masts. Nothing to write home about. | stig_nest | 14/04/2018 |
From Trentabank Reservoir - Ridgegate Reservoir - Lane towards Peak Chapel - Forest track to Ashstreetop - Hacked Way Lane - Charity Lane (Hill Summit) - Peak Chapel - through Macclesfield Forest back to Trentabank. | briandavies | 31/12/2017 |
Parked naughtily on the path but I was only away for ten minutes. A tramp between and into trees gave no certainty as to the actual high point | Colin Crawford | 09/06/2017 |
15 Mile walk taking in Tegg's Nose, Whitehills and Shutlingsloe | Delta68 | 13/05/2017 |
Great walking area - circular with Billinge and Brink.Forest quite open - mountain biking tracks.Top in forest, not clearing, IMO. | carole engel | 19/04/2017 |
petey | 12/02/2017 | |
Parked in cp on bend of road to SE at Macclesfield Forest. Up a rocky land then dived into the forest and stomped around a bit on the flattish summit. Difficult to be more specific than 967727 as the forest is quite dense. | clivevilla | 13/12/2016 |
Solo | simon and co | 01/12/2016 |
Parked at bend on Charity Lane and followed the slush covered track. HP is in a clearing in the forest about 50 ms to the west of track. | Campbell Singer | 09/11/2016 |
Up Charity Lane then over fence and into forest. | John Eley | 23/10/2016 |
Easy access from track on NE side. Grass/ moss in forest break, mound in trees at SJ 96762 72652 felt higher but GPS disagreed and as already late for rendezvous didn't have time to investigate further. | RichardM | 14/10/2016 |
Walked up Charity Lane from the NW and jumped over easy fence. Tracks suggested other 'Tumpers' have been there before me. Near the summit three lads threw there bikes over the fence to follow a probably unofficial but enjoyable mountain bike route through the forest. Solo. | David Evans | 10/10/2016 |
Walked up from Walker Barn after doing Ely Brow, but their is room to park one car at top of Charity Lane | Mark Sims | 29/03/2016 |
Nice little 3 mile circular for 15 weeks pregnant L4HUF. Start and finish a Walker Barn through Macc Forrest, up the Forrest Bridleway and down Charity Lane. Snow and ice in parts but lovely Autumn afternoon. | W111KYB | 22/11/2015 |
9/11 Drove up Charity lane and parked in entrance to field. Quick walk up bridle way to top | Fergalh | 04/05/2015 |
Walked up Charity lane from the north west and just over the fence to explore a few of the woodland hummocks. | vegibagger | 29/09/2014 |
Parked at Forest Chapel car park. Quick there and back again after work on a hot, sunny afternoon. | BobHancock | 12/06/2014 |
Tight parking at sharp bend on narrow lane from Walker Barn to Hardingland. Bridleway along edge of wood past Arqiva building. Decided that high point outside wood was at SJ 96776 72717. Over fence is a high point in dense trees at SJ 96770 72655, floor covered in needles; seems higher than the clearing. | Aye Jimmy | 05/05/2014 |
Top is in clearing just inside the forest West of the track, new fencing to hop over. (no barbed wire) | Anton | 01/04/2014 |
My second visit to this hill as it turns out I didn't visit the highest point first time round. Parked on a little car park not shown on the maps at the southern end of Charity Lane at Chapel House Farm. SJ 97412 72102. Things have changed since my last visit. The tracks gone much worse - don't contemplate driving up even in a 4x4! There has been some tree clearance too and now the formidable barbed wire fence has been replaced with an easier to get over specimen. As for the highest point over the fence - difficult to say for certain due to the trees. We visited all the options and settled for a little grassy hump adjacent to the lower branches of a spruce tree at SJ 96751 72675. | David Gradwell | 22/12/2013 |
My first hill on a 14 mile walk starting from Bottom of the oven and up to Forest chapel and then onto Charity lane. Like others have said I got 477 and beyond just on the track but did climb over the gate and did a small circular walk and encountered an open area of forest and then turned into the trees and found a mound that could be the summit (coincides with position given on os map although there are probably several) Around 20 Rangerovers drived past on this track today!! | Dazingdale | 08/12/2013 |
A bitter cold evening as night was closing in. Possible to park at the end of the track (NOT a road as shown on site map). From then along the unmade-up road to the top is about 10 minutes.

A local out running told me that it was, in fact, called Charity Hill | moorsman | 29/01/2013 |
Jogged up lane from Walker Barn then rough track | Chris Pearson | 12/07/2011 |
Passed over summit in orienteering race | JK | 11/06/2011 |
Car park at minor road junction at SJ 97766 71480. South to Shutlingsloe first then back to car park and used concessionary path through forest to road than track up to Whitehills. Settled for highest point of track at SJ 96780 72705. If anybody feels the need to climb over the formidable fence and thrash about in the forest, be my guest! Although I don't think it's necessary as, having just checked, my recorded GR coincides nicely with the 477m spot height on the 10k geograph map. 21/12/2013 update:- I have unticked this hill due to cast iron evidence on Old Maps of the highest point being a little way into the forest. 22/12/2013 see my latest log! | David Gradwell | 21/03/2010 |
Big, bulky and the woods make it an easily identifiable hill from afar. Shame the woods block out views of Shutlingsloe though! | Jake994 | 19/03/2005 |
summit is S side of tk (?not driveable) just E of mast; pleasant view. tk from NW | RHW | 25/01/2003 |
