Parked at the car park on the A616 north of Langsett, followed the bridleway SW to the watershed. Dropped down slightly to the Derwent valley and then followed the RoW (a delightful small green track) south until, forking off to Upper Hey, then east on another green trod up the steep escarpment to the summit of High Stones (my penultimate English Dewey). Then north along the summit ridge with a revisit to Margery Hill, before retracing the outward route to the start. A splendid crystal clear winter's day, with frost underfoot and stunning views all round. 18.5km with 570m ascent taking 5h 30m.silveracorn_alan07/12/2022

1st of 7 hills on a route from Fairholmes visitor centre to Dunford bridge. Took train from Nottingham to Sheffield then bus 273 to the visitor centre. I Followed the Eastern side of the reservoir before taking the footpath beside Howden Clough. I veered off this as it circumnavigates the hill. Beautiful heather moors. Intercepted path to climb directly up to Howden edge.Dazingdale23/08/2016

Solo. Picked up as a consolation on an unplanned early descent from high ground.Aimless Rambler30/04/2016
Continuation of walk from Margery Hill. Dropped down off escarpment where the slope was gentler and followed sheep tracks down to the hill's col. From there an overgrown ATV track starting by a grouse butt took me up all the way to the summit area. To descend, returned to col and took paths down Howden Clough to the reservoir track and thence south back to Fairholmes. Solo.Man of Kernow120/04/2016
My final Sheffield top, to complete 60 Counties before the tamperers get to work again. With Judy. As AJ: found a bit of a track on the outside of the fence line along the top edge. Returned with face black with drowned midges.GordonAdshead30/08/2015

Parking by the reservoir ( you can park a few hundred meters along the road and save the £4.70) along the Western side of the reservoirs then up to Howden Moor, over Nether Hey, Row Top, High Stones, Wilfrey Edge, Margery Hill, Howden Edge, Broadhead Clough Head, Outer Edge, then back via Cut Gate End, to the northern edge of Howden reservoir, 22km and 1050m of of accents. Great walk. Both pillars in good condition, Outer Edge looking very exposed at the base. Amazing views in all directions. Boggy old walk over to Outer Edge even in the summer.griefmiester05/09/2014
Missed this on an earlier ascent of Margery Hill from Howden. Drove to end of permitted road at 'King's Oak Tree'. Around head of Howden reservoir and up steep hillside. Walk along top, not much of a path, to heathery summit. Two deer seen near summit.Aye Jimmy23/04/2014
