From the NNW. Parked in layby on N. side of bend; need to enter between reflective roadside bollards - South, north-east & then south along RoW & then a short distance ENE along ATV track to high point near gate.gerrybowes10/10/2023
From layby on A672, great views.Nick Canute20/04/2022

From Badgers Edge mainly on foot paths. High point rough grass by gap in DSW and gate in fence.RichardM24/12/2020
HP by gate in stone wall in rough grassland. Excellent views, somewhat marred by electrical cables/aerials/ windfarms but it is close to Manchester. Went onto trig over rough grass. Cold clear day.Denise 23/12/2020

Good advice from moorsmanDavid Evans21/01/2019
Easy parking at nick in road to north. Feint path bands away left from entrance to cross road to masts then over gate to follow track to what is typical Pennine topMark Sims12/12/2018
Parked on bend on Huddersfield Rd. Easier parking opposite going uphill and eastbound. Good fp and tracks all the way. Initially follow the pylons.Campbell Singer11/11/2018
Parked in layby on Rochdale Road then walked along track to the summit. Easy walking with nice views of surrounding hills. With the dog.John Eley30/10/2018

Trig point on Crowl Knoll (395m) then up to Crompton Moor. Access Land. Good parking under pylons on bend in Rochdale Road. Solo.Dangerous Dave18/06/2018
With Jo, from Bishop Park car park: followed Crompton Circuit to Crompton Moor, then Oldham Way to Crow Knowl trig, then returned past Rough to CC. Then went onto Bishop Park trig and Badger Edge. Weather; generally cloudy, mild, good visibility if somewhat hazy distant views.amblerbob14/04/2018
Lovely Christmas Day walk from home up to the masts and trig point. The masts were shrouded in mist when looking up from the bottom but the cloud had lifted to a lovely blue sky by the time we reached the top. Ascent via Pingot Quarry and descent over the slag heap and through the plantation.Rambling Idiot25/12/2017
After pillar NE and then SE on tracks.Dusty25/11/2017

From bend in A640 to NWRobertP26/02/2017
Parked on the roadside close to the start of the footpath running west from Old Tame (alt 296). Follow the path behind the houses until it bends sharply right. Dont follow this but carry on uphill alongside the fence as far as the gate at the top. Right across boggy moorland to the summit. 2.15 km return. 40 minutes.moorsman19/02/2017
Circular walk up from Brushes Clough car park, via the trig point and the summit point near the gate post. Lots of snow up on the moors today, just made it back before dark as the paths were hard to find.Lazylizzie14/01/2017
2nd hill of four today on a route from Milnrow where i stopped the night (courtesy of Airbnb) to Derker station, climbing Moss Gate and then using the Rochdale way to head East, then the Oldham Way that takes a Southerly line past Crow Knowl and then headed North on the Crompton circuit to the summit, investigating high points around White Hill but agree that moorland mound near gate looks the highest but also went behind the wall as the land rises up to meet it. Crow Knowl looks almost higher from here but doesn't when you descend. Strangely I got a GPs reading of 407m. Returned same way but kept South-west on Crompton circuit on track running parallel to Buckstone road before heading West on footpath to edge of estate and then back onto Crompton circuit heading for Metrolink crossing near Shaw Side.Dazingdale04/12/2016
Derker to Newhey.Smudge31/10/2015
From the cross Pennine A640 which is often closed during periods of snow due to its high remote nature. This cuts off the non-motorway route from Huddersfield to Manchester. Pleasant jog on good track to Tump and back again then out to trig -direct line across moor looked too rough.Chris Pearson05/08/2015
Ran up from car park to west then Badger Edge.stever22/05/2015
Or in American notation a palindromic 5.17.15vegibagger17/05/2015
Parked on the A672 to the SSE then used the steep footpath to gain track towards the summit.Dugswell201/05/2015
From S, car park by road jct empty on Sat pm. PRoW W then N along ridge. Met farmer on descent, very unfriendly. To be fair I was on an accidental shortcut. In my defence the ridge path is unmarked and I get the impression he disputes it anyway. Did trig years ago; N approach may anyway be easier...RHW01/11/2014
Parked in large layby on sharp bend to N. Rough track under pylons onto moor, quick visit to Crow Knowl trig then soggy track across grassy moor to Crompton.Aye Jimmy01/04/2014
This on a walking route to Claire's new house.Aimless Rambler15/12/2013
clear, sunny, cool wind. done with Badger Edge, Harrop Edge & Oxhey Top from Grains Bar.joseph mitchell14/11/2013
From rough layby on A640 at SD 96041 11065. Steep track up to Crow Knowl trig then on to Crompton Moor & across the A640 for Ogden Edge before returning along the road to parking spot. A profitable little outing for three South Pennine hills. (Ogden Edge optional as not on any 'official' lists.)David Gradwell30/06/2013
First done on a long slog from Greenfield and hated it. Returned in 2013, climbing from the Metrolink stop in Shaw and found it a delightful spot. Great views over the upper Tame area.Jake99417/05/2010
Estimated date. Local hill done at least once but not really worth visiting unless the journey passes that way.Aimless Rambler31/01/2009
