Easy roadside parking, 40m or so NW of junction at 969081 - From junction, up steps, over stile & up over rough grass to summit; no sign of a path. | gerrybowes | 10/10/2023 |
Parked on flytippers lane. Short round walk to summit, climbed and sat on top of nearby stack of stones, also visited nearby monument, trig and viewing table. | Nick Canute | 20/04/2022 |
Parked near road junction and followed FP most of way before diverting to HP. Also went to monument and trig while there. | PeterD | 11/10/2021 |
Gravelly flattish area near pylon in horse pasture, frozen today with cold wind. Ground somewhat disturbed so had a good wander around possible HPs. Pinkish clouds appear snow laden and it soon arrived. Nearby stone shaft is lower. From Delph and onto trig and monument. | Denise | 24/12/2020 |
Footpaths from Delph. Levelish summit, disturbed ground. High point just SSW of pylon. | RichardM | 24/12/2020 |
Also visited stone tower then over to trig n monument | Adrian | 05/10/2020 |

From Ox Hey Top via Linfitts and Hey Barn Farm. Early evening walk in arcadian surroundings; hard to believe we were a stone's-throw from Manchester. Spent a comfortable night under the stars (well, the orange glow) before a 06:30 start, ascending a wonderful bridleway up the heathery slopes to Hill Top Lane and the summit. Looked across Manchester in the slight morning mist, then headed for Delph Hill in increasing sunshine. | Wycombe Wanderer | 26/04/2020 |
From car park on Ship Lane, up to monument but turned back from bee line because the ground was so wet and went down to road and back up again. | Mark Sims | 05/12/2019 |
5 of 8 on 21 mile grueller bike ride. Was going to head back to the car after this one but decided to push on for the other 3 | The-Z-Man | 15/07/2019 |
Litter strewn summit field | David Evans | 21/01/2019 |
The summit is currently changing. The farmer is filling in a large whole and will regress. He was in his digger as I reached a new high point and so we had a chat. Remeasurement required?? | Campbell Singer | 11/11/2018 |
Parked in layby at SD9687908141 then took fp SSE to summit jumping over a barbed wire fence and crossing a road on the way. Did on thick mist but still noticed lots of litter. Managed to startle some grazing horses. | John Eley | 21/10/2018 |
As per Bramley. | arranc | 12/08/2018 |
With Jo, from Bishop Park car park: followed Crompton Circuit to Crompton Moor, then Oldham Way to Crow Knowl trig, then returned past Rough to CC. Then went onto Bishop Park trig and Badger Edge. Weather; generally cloudy, mild, good visibility if somewhat hazy distant views. | amblerbob | 14/04/2018 |
After pillar followed tracks NE and SE to top. | Dusty | 25/11/2017 |
What a dump | PeteF | 09/08/2017 |
Easy short stroll from NW. | RobertP | 26/02/2017 |
5th hill of 9 today on a long walk from Marsden to Mossley station via Pule hill, Ox Hey top, Harrop Edge and Delph hill, through Delph, briefly on Tame Valley Way onto Grains road, steeply up through access land to Hill top lane and then up to summit near trash-filled hollow! Very disappointing top. Descent through conifer copse to series of fields with stiles to get to Badger Edge lane, continuing on to Wharmton. | Dazingdale | 29/10/2016 |
From car park up to monument, down to road and up steps to stile, beeline for top | Bramley | 27/08/2016 |
From the car park up past the trig then down and over to the summit. returned to car park via the path to corner of field, back up to trig and down.
Field full of debris, highest point is just to the south of the big hole. | bluewater | 28/04/2016 |
Derker to Newhey. | Smudge | 31/10/2015 |
Popular car park for a leg stretch and taking in the the views. Linked from the lower Trig along lane and fp passing fly tipping signs, warning of big fines. Ironically the landowner (presumably) had dumped scrap metal and old mattresses etc into a rubbish filled hollow near the summit. | Chris Pearson | 05/08/2015 |
Ran from car park to west of Crompton Moor, up that then over to Badger Edge. | stever | 22/05/2015 |
Parked below path to monument and trig which once bagged I returned to the road and walked to the T-junction where a footpath was followed to the summit in horse field. | Dugswell2 | 01/05/2015 |
From N: rough rocky verge. | RHW | 26/04/2014 |
Parked at visitors' carpark at Grains, near monument and trigpoint. Walked across to Badger Edge, soggy and horsey in places. Obvious square object on skyline to L of spinney is a large unstable looking cairn/monument, but not at summit. Latter is featureless grass, with nearby rubbish tip in pit. Much litter about. | Aye Jimmy | 01/04/2014 |
clear, sunny, cool wind. done with Crompton Moor, Harrop Edge & Oxhey Top from Grains Bar. | joseph mitchell | 14/11/2013 |
Parked on verge of minor road to north at SD 96898 08136. Took footpath at road junction (stile is high up above road) path shown on map doesn't really exist on ground but terrain no problem. All walls shown on 25k map are ruined or don't exist. No feature for highest perceived point at SD 97041 07745 but it's very close to 379m spot height on 25k map. | David Gradwell | 05/05/2013 |
Parked just before the road junction then a short walk across rough fell to the top. The hill sporting the monument to the north west looks higher but the OS map states otherwise. | moorsman | 28/01/2013 |
Slogged it along roads from Greenfield and found the top very disappointing. The top with the monument to the north was more satisfying. | Jake994 | 17/05/2010 |
