On own. Cold, blustery day with showers. From Alstonefield (note car park no longer free, now pay and display, card payments only). Circular walk taking in Gratton Hill, Narrowdale Hill and Wetton Hill SW Top. Very muddy underfoot.Beeliner26/02/2024
Gratton Hill and Narrowdale Hill from free parking in Alstonefield.PGCE11/08/2023
10.8 mile circular from Alstonefield. Across field footpaths to Wetton. Over Wetton Hill SW Top and Wetton Hill steeply descending to Gateham Grange, then along ridge to Narrowdale Hill. There is a fairly new barbed wire fence on the narrow neck of access land between Narrowdale and Gratton Hills now. Up and down Gratton Hill then we took the footpath to north end of Wolfscote Dale and walked the the length of the dale down to Milldale taking the steep path back up to Alstonefield. 626m ascent. Sunny with a very cold breeze. Saw a few people about. 2nd time ascending all hills.DanTrig26/12/2022

15km circuit from Alstonefield: Gratton Hill - Narrowdale Hill - Wolfscote Hill - Wetton Hill.Tony J04/11/2020
Loop from Alstonefield. Missed the rain mainly, Wolfscote dale including caves which are worth a look, Wolfscote Hill, Gratton Hill and across to Narrowdale hill. Bit of a tricky one getting onto the right side of walls, but fun nonetheless, 10km in 4 hrs.Nicky C28/10/2020
Started from free CP in Alstonefield. Gentle climb up ROW at SK 13356 55687 then directly to open access area. With whole family. 88m ascent.RoguePulsar13/06/2020

Parked at the end of the bridle way at 12489 56532, east along the bridle way then north to Narrowdale Hill then across to Gratton Hill looking ahead for gaps in the stone walls.clivevilla24/01/2019
On a walk from Alstonefield, along Wolfescote Dale, back via Narrowdale- done a few times, but this the first time with the hills as well- Wolfescote Hill, Narrowdale Hill and Gratton Hill. Kept to access land from Narrowdale Hill but mildly obstructed in valley- better to go on W side of wall. Walked NE to SE over hill, picked up track coming up from Dunge Bottom to return to Alstonefield. This hill was improved pasture but had the best view of the 3 today. A good day out with Pete.pwheeler14/03/2018
Parking quite difficult to the west but managed to squeeze onto the verge at the start of the bridleway to Greenhills Cottage (alt 302m). Follow this bridleway to the barn on the connecting strip between this hill and Narrowdale Hill. Easy route up from here. 3.11km for both hills 70 minutes 151m ascentmoorsman09/03/2018

Distinct HP- flattened cairn on grassed over tumulus in sheep pasture ( access land). Lovely views of greens and greys of fields and limestone walls merging into a wintry grey sky, evening already approaching.Denise 03/11/2017
Parked on minor road to SW then did Gratton Hill before Narrowdale Hill with Alex.Dugswell203/11/2017

Ascended from Narrowdale Hill and returned via Beresford Dale to car by Wolfscote Grange.JohnW14/09/2017
8/10 colour at 260m where I crossed it and it felt like a hump on the ascent. Another decent top. Summit is a patch of nettles! Bumped into another walker on descent. The only one of the day!stig_nest26/05/2017
Parking: Just about off the road SK 125565. For both Gratton Hill and Narrowdale Hill. Route: Followed path to SK 12800 57168, then used access land to Gratton Hill first then Narrowdale Hill. Return past camping barn.David Evans20/03/2017
An afternoon stroll after slavery at work...Easy from Alstonefield, so it's good to combine it with Wolfscote Hill to make a proper job of getting some exercise. I found that I've been up it before, but always best to make sure, isn't it? Perhaps noteworthy for the bogginess on the way down towards the River Dove. But then it is Staffordshire....Gill25/01/2017

In conjunction with Narrowdale Hill. Steep descent from Narrowdale HIll. Easier ascent of Gratton Hill. Another great viewpoint.Campbell Singer30/11/2016
A figure of 8 starting at Wetton mill (9 miles) Had an issue with access from Narrowdale hill, marked on OS map as access land but no route through the fence. There is access via a cattle grid from the track on the otherside of the hill.Alex1759522/09/2016

A nice circular walk combined with Narrowdale Hill from Alstonfield on footpaths onto access land over and between the tops. We take such free access for granted however in 2001 Mark Roberts, a Welsh businessman, purchased the title as the Lord of Alstonefield, a title won for £10,000 at auction,to own mineral extraction, hunting and fishing and access rights in the Staffordshire village. This was one of about 60 Lord of the Manor or Marcher Lord titles he had bought and became controversial when he persued his legal claims to historical rights associated with them such as seeking charges of up to £45,000 from residents of Peterstone in South Walks for access across pathways and verges. After having some of his rights revoked by a change of law in 2005, and a ruling that no-one can be charged for access across common land if it can be shown that they have already done so for twenty years, and then in 2008 that Marcher Lords no longer exist.Chris Pearson26/07/2015
Walk from Alstonefield with Jackie. Beautiful dayclimbingkershaw07/04/2015
Parked at Alstonefield, walked along minor roads and field paths to Wetton, bagged Wetton Hill SW Top and Wetton Hill, then across to Narrowdale Hill and Gratton Hill, walked to the top of Wolfscotedale, re-bagged Wolfscote Hill and went back along Wolfscotedale to Milldale and walked back up to Alstonefield. A nice walk to do this time of year.DanTrig04/01/2015
Parked to SW at start of lane (advertising camping barn) and f/p. Had to divert from f/p and over two gated holes in wall, small cairn on summit. Retraced steps partway and across to Narrowdale Hill.Aye Jimmy02/10/2014

On a short circuit from Beresford lane caravan park, having already Bagged Narrowdale Hill I walked down the steep slope, over a dry stone wall up a field, over another fence and then straight up to the summit tumulus. Great views over Wolfescote dale and looking back to Beresford dale. Exit back along dry stone wall border and over and down to Narrowdale taking track linking up with Beresford lane and walking back up to the caravan park. Beautiful evening sunshine encountered.Dazingdale17/05/2014

Last of a long painful day of TuMP bagging, not helped by an agitated bull on the public footpath between here and Narrowdale Hill. Cut straight up to the top, and then down to Alstonefield via the track.DanHolme22/09/2013

Visited a few times, usually on a grand six hill walk from Hartington taking in Wolfscote - Gratton - Narrowdale - Wetton - Wetton SW and Ecton Hills. Quite a tiring walk as each hill short but very steep.Jake99403/09/2005
