From Black Lane Ends PH. Also included Piked Edge summit and disturbed a great grey shrike. A first time spot for me. | Nick Caunt | 19/02/2024 |
As others, parked on junction to WNW & SE along RoW to path junction at SD 90952 43750 - Forked left along path to gap in wall & then up alongside wall to shooting butt - SE on path through heather to trig point. Fine viewpoint including Dales Three Peaks. | gerrybowes | 07/02/2024 |
As others, parked at corner below Thick Bank. Good path upto the top. Good little hill. | Andrew Pearson | 31/08/2022 |
1/6 in the area around Colne, visiting Sheep Hill, Law Hill, Colne Edge, Weets Hill, Wheathead Height, and Stang Top Moor. Parked on the verge above Moor Gate. Followed FP NE, then the wall up the north side of the access land through deep heather, and up by the cross wall and along the track to the trig. Easier descent using a good track across the southern slope of the access land, back to Cob Lane. 3.3km with 150m ascent in 55 minutes. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 09/01/2022 |
excellent little run from car park above Earby | HardenC | 02/11/2021 |
With Judy from road corner below Thick Bank. Found this a much more rewarding hill than I expected. We followed the SE track before heading up the wall edge, but with crutches I found the sloping ground rather hard on my ankle. On the way down (about the K in Kelbrook) the wall has been bulldozed and there is an excellent track following more grassy lines that descended comfortably back to the stile at the edge of the access land. | GordonAdshead | 17/10/2020 |
Roadside parking space at Hainslack. Followed footpaths past Harwes to trig. Back over Piked Edge (355m). Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 16/06/2020 |
Parked at entrance to Thick Bank. Fp through pasture and then found a feint path over Roger Moor to gap in wall. From gap turned left and followed wall line up to shooting butt and then across heather moor. Fine views. | Campbell Singer | 18/01/2020 |
From footpath at 906439. Character building walk through knee-deep heather in mist and sweeping rain to the unclimbable wall then headed SW along it to a gap by a lone pine. A faint path then follows the wall and then heads to the trig. Small deer given away by their long ears. The only good thing about this walk was that I had a tail wind on the ascent. The weather forecast said dry but has been raining most of the day. Endex. | Wycombe Wanderer | 05/01/2020 |

4 of 8 on 31.4 mile bike ride including marsden height, Walton’s monument, law hill, sheep hill, hawshaw hill, pinhaw beacon, nutter Cole hill, and colne edge. Ditched the bike at Jerusalem farm then a 20 min walk there and back to the trig | The-Z-Man | 26/03/2019 |
Parked near Thickbank to west. followed boggy track and wall lines to summit Pillar | cjo | 12/01/2019 |
Beautiful spot, from Cob lane (track to Thick Bank) . Kelbrook Moor loop taken summit and trig (Ingelborough and Bowland getting greyed out, Boulsworth and Pendle dominate) onward via Harwes Farm - Black Lanes End and Pennine bridleway cutting back uphill just before the village of Kelbrook. Completed and still enough time to visit Salts Mill at Shipley . | briandavies | 16/12/2018 |
Parked at the bottom of Cob Lane in Kelbrook and followed the lane up hill. We then took the right of way that went along the bottom of the access land on Roger Moor and Kelbrook Moor, which was a bogfest and highly unpleasant. We followed a rough, wet path up towards the summit but ended up bashing through the heather to get to the top, as it was more pleasant that wading through the bog. Saw 3 roe deer on the way up, which pleased by 5 year old daughter no end. In descent we found a path through the heather that headed for the wall that divides Kelbrook Moor and Roger Moor and alongside the wall is a path. We followed a path through the heather on Roger Moor but had to leave it to bash our way through the heather towards Cob Lane. We were all relieved to get back to the car. Not a hill I will be rushing back to. With JT and HT. | Sprog | 01/04/2018 |
Walked from Kelbrook. Very wet underfoot. | IanHHill | 08/02/2018 |
From Black Lane Ends. Parked in overflow car park. Asked at pub if it was okay. They were grateful to be asked. About an hour round trip. Very boggy.soggy feet again. Goretex works! It doesn't let water out | Longwojo | 27/11/2017 |
3rd hill of 6 today on a route from Colne (after brekkie at Spoons) to Cononley climbing Colne Edge and Law Hill, taking Long lane back onto Castle road then taking fp up to Jerusalem farm then track upto Harwes Farm, giving access to the moor via a gate. I basically walked on the heather, occasionally passing deer tracks till arriving at the Trig; I also visited nearby knoll but did not get a higher reading. Still raining....Descent East then NE through woodland, carefully negotiating slippery steep slopes to arrive at footbridge over stream then steeply up slope to join Pennine Bridleway. Nice view of Sheep hill looking back. Continuing onto Hawshaw Hill.... | Dazingdale | 22/10/2017 |

Solo. Parked on the A56 in Kelbrook. Through the village and up Cob Lane. Then public footpath as far as a gap the wall opposite a small lake by Kelbrook Wood. From here followed a narrow track on the E side of the wall to the top of the moor. Then turned E along an indistinct track, initially located next to an isolated section of wall, to the trig pt. Out and back 4.5 miles. | ADT | 10/09/2017 |
from pub Black lane Ends to the east. 1045 DP's (double paces) approx 1.7km about a mile | vegibagger | 27/06/2017 |
Parking alongside the entrance gate to Thick Bank (alt 233). Path leads SE for about a kilometre across the moor to a wall. Turn left here and follow the wall upwards. After a small hollow the path leaves the wall and heads straight for the summit. 3.02 km return, 50 minutes. | moorsman | 17/02/2017 |
From Law Hill. Mud, gunfire but no heavy artillery. Then steep down to path to Kelbrook and the bus 🚌. | Martin R | 18/01/2017 |
With Jo, from Kelbrook. Along road to Cob Lane, then followed footpath onto moor on a lovely warm, sunny day, with good visibility. Saw some deer on the moor. Day only spoiled by the noise from the constant firing of guns taking place in the vicinity of Kelbrook Woods. | amblerbob | 20/04/2016 |
Parked at Black Lane Ends. If you use the pub cp go in overflow parking area. It was too early to patronise the pub. Fp west to farm, then through heather at second copse to summit. Found track on way back, which was easier going. Fourth trig of six today. Returned under heavy fire from woods. | ngthack | 30/03/2016 |
Climbed from Cowling via Pennine way, minor roads, field paths, Hawshaw Hill to Black Lane ends then. boggy field path and moorland to trig | robert | 07/02/2016 |
From Black Lane Ends. Contoured round to Harwes Farm then thin path to trig | Bramley | 25/08/2015 |
Kelbrook to Colne. Lots of shooting from the woods S of summit but they were either poor marksmen or after a more challenging target. | Smudge | 19/04/2014 |
From Black Lane Ends. There is actually a path direct to trig from stile near Copy House but it is difficult to locate.Easy on way back.Good views | catman | 06/02/2013 |
