Logged Descriptions  (logged by 29 users)ByDate of Ascent
Decent roadside parking on Upper Lane, 30m or so S. of junction to ENE - NW along lane to gate at SE 10613 27833 & then through paddock on N. side of wall to wall corner - S. alongside wall for about 40m to SE 10464 27725 where I was able to straddle bwf; a bit awkward due to tree branches - Under electric fence & up through quarried area to high point on banking against wall.gerrybowes16/02/2024
Revisit for trig block which is in pasture NW of farmhouse. Wall effectively crosses summit but pasture at S side of wall seems higher. From SSE this time, clockwise via RoW. Not a summit I expected to revisit!RHW08/01/2023
Second attempt Lands Head Farm saying there were horses in the field, nor from North Field Gate Farm. Went up lane opposite to Highland, thinking summit could be in pasture, but was told there were sheep in the field, and I would have to go through the house to get to the field (??). Followed PeterD's route, with interesting squeeze under fence from field to N into woodhenryfm30/10/2022
Parked to ENE near Marsh Hall Farm, walked back along road and headed NW, at 2nd gate went along by wall to north side of wood which then went through up to quarry and on to the mound by the high wall. There was a more direct route across fields but more open.PeterD24/03/2022

Adventurous route from north. Nice pine plantation, some heather and rock, plus good view to north west.Wycombe Wanderer25/01/2020
Aye Jimmy's advice still relevant.David Evans09/06/2019
Difficult summit to access with one helpful weakness. Park at the road junction to the north. Follow road west past Land Head Farm and immediately after the building is an open gate. Follow the wall to the base of the quarry. The workings form the northern boundary and it is a stiff scramble up the edge to the top of the workings. Didn't fancy this as everything was slippery So, as my GPS indicated I was less than 75m from the summit I consider it done.moorsman05/10/2018
2 of 3 on 8.2 mile walk around Halifax including Beacon hill, bleak hill and swales moorThe-Z-Man09/08/2018
Parked in Upper Lane, Walked up to the house at top of farm lane. Owner couldn't' have been more helpful and even advised that the electric fence was switched off as animals were indoors for the winter. Awkward fence and wall. Had a pleasant chat with the man afterwards and explained hill bagging to him . He seemed genuinely interested or was he just being sympathetic regarding my problem.Campbell Singer30/01/2018
having walked from Swales Moor, dropping down to Shibden Glen and reascending, I had done all the hard work but the field owner categorically refused to allow me to walk to the top, so I walked up a lane to the next farmstead which appears to be only about 2m lower, and therefore I consider it done,IanHHill16/11/2017
Approached from road called Cave Hill. No issues though saw farmer when I was standing on the summit.Adrian02/09/2017
Knocked on house for up lane and asked for permission from woman to just go through her farm used and up to top of field as I was collecting hill summits of Halifax. Climbed over walk to get to high point for to give metres beyondvegibagger26/06/2017
Failed with Smudge around 9:15 an on Sunday 18/12/2016 as bright frosty and too many people around and aware. Dropped something at my siters in Harrogate then returned on a quieter grey Wednesday to gain access via stone wall corner, trees and EFs. Then on to Penistone Hill trig at Howarth for date to log on T:UK but been a few times before with Peter Eccles.Dugswell222/02/2017
4th hill of 5 today on a route from Atherton (Bradford) ìto Halifax, climbing Harrop edge, Soil Hill and Swales Moor, descending past Dry Ski Slope, following the Calderdale way but keeping high as lanes profile around valley. Climbed wall and darted up steep ground to edge of forestry plantation. Trousers got stuck on barbed wire but eventually escaped to easily visit banking on high wall. Climbed over wall a bit further down to bag the 'exposed side'. Climbed back over stone wall (unstable in parts) & negotiated tricky double fence with electrification in between. Followed wild descent through heather before using pasture to arrive at road, continuing onto Beacon hill.Dazingdale05/02/2017
Tricky & trespassy. Not nice. Necessary for Calderdale completion though.ngthack08/11/2015

Tight parking to N at junction of three lanes - Blake, Cave & Brow. Up road short way, gate into field, felt trespassy. Followed wall to corner, over wall/fence into trees. Grassy quarry bumps ahead with electric fence - live, gave fair kick when wet zip touched it! Summit a raised banking NW side of high wall. Pasture other side of wall didn't look any higher and in full view of house/farm.Aye Jimmy08/05/2014
S side of tall wall, pasture. In dark, from NE, awkward walls, desc past farm & down drive; NB scrubby from W RHW15/12/2012
