Decent parking on North Road, S. of Bettenhill - N. along footpath & then SW along RoW for about 150m to gate at SK 02936 95601 - Over gate, west along grassy track & then up through open woodland to the highest of a number of mounds.gerrybowes31/01/2024

Clockwise from layby on A624 south of Glossop. 13 mile bike ride. Mateley Moor->Cown Edge->Mouselow Castle->Shire Hill->Brownhillsteveb200615/12/2023
Also went over the gate with Beware of the Bull on it. The fences are quite flimsy so it seemed unlikely. Interesting earthworks.clivevilla14/02/2023
Parked just off road to the NE. main gate was chained and locked and cattle were in evidence so I went clockwise round tracks and used next gate (also chained and locked) which bore the sign - Beware of the Bull. Returned same wayJK17/09/2022
Evening stroll from Windy Harbour Hotel, my accommodation on the Pennine Way. ROWs, then up via gate on S side.PGCE06/04/2022
Up SE side, down NE.Nick Canute28/03/2022
Handy gate at SK03437 92768 unchained when I visited, good for avoiding gorse on south side of Tump.BaggerGutt04/01/2022

Very warm, humid, sunny, from NE with Bag For Life. Nice summit area being reclaimed by nature.Wycombe Wanderer15/06/2020
pleasant oak and beech wood with dappled sunshine. HP on informal path above aerial.Denise 14/05/2020
Field gate from track on S side of hill then easily up through beech and oak trees to summit. High point a heathery rise at side of path. Good views, a nice little hill.RichardM14/05/2020
Parking down North Road to the east, half on path, half on road. Followed the track to its first junction, through the gate on the right and an easy, direct ascent up the hill. Could be a bit of an undergrowth fight in summer though.moorsman04/03/2020
Lots of easy parking on North Road. There was a family having a picnic directly on the summit.David Evans29/04/2017
From track off North Road and through the pleasant woodland. With Mart.John Eley19/02/2017
Parked on North Road and followed lane towards masts. Jumped over the second metal gate and followed track past the north of mast before finding a faint path to the top. Could be overgrown in the summer.Campbell Singer05/01/2017
Quick stroll up whilst passingAvidSockWearer22/10/2016
Up track from the north and across a shiny new metal gate just before the wooded top there is a small path visible up through the trees and flowing it take one right over highest point. Sitting in the car afterwards two ground to ground full rainbows drifted towards NE from the north west. Fabulousvegibagger10/10/2016
Parked on road at approx SK03029565. Followed tracks SW then west to near mast, then small but well-trodden footpath through old earthworks to summit. Descended via unmapped track near west and north perimeter of woods.davidpettit8404/09/2016

1st of five hills today on a long and tiring traverse from Hadfield station to Edale station. Took a few mins to get my bearings and then took Park road and fp heading Se skirting the wood and then took bridleway heading NE and then took fp close to the top where i climbed over a fence to explore the ancient hill-fort bumps. Descended to meet footpath leading to North road, followed this to road jct and took cemetary road then Woodhead road entering outskirts of Glossop.Dazingdale27/02/2016
From track to south.Alan Caine06/10/2015
Also called Glossop Castle (a much better name). Site of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle. The motte being the piled up earth bank on which a wood or stone wall was built and the bailey being in the inner courtyard. Summit is now a confused maze of bumps and hollows as the earthworks have been damaged by quarrying and the position of the bailey has been lost. Walked up from the lovely Howard Park to the mast from where (over one new fence) a thin path threads through the many bumps to top.Chris Pearson06/08/2015
Parking a bit difficult, I ended up using the cemetery entrance. Easy walk up from NE, following track then a well-worn path to the topthe_adam21/07/2015
On a walk to Dinting station from the station at Royston Vasey - proving it is possible to leave there. Muddy is an understatement for the paths lower down.Martin R15/12/2014
My final Derbyshire P30. Track from NE then short brambly ascent. Followed path down via comms mast, passing Private sign on way out.RHW01/11/2014
Track from NE led to 'Private land, keep out' sign in wood after 100m. Up very overgrown wood to earthworks(?) at top, no sign of a castle. At highest point discovered footpath coming from direction of comms mast, maybe an easier way up?Aye Jimmy22/08/2014

Quick climb from the Park Road - North Road junction. Have since visited quite a few times as it makes a great easy stroll from Hadfield to Glossop with a good session in the Globe pub en route.Jake99406/05/2006
