Roadside parking above the school & up to reservoir gates & gap in fence - No chance of squeezing through, so continued NE along The Drive to pedestrian gate & stile - Along RoW, up to high point on E. side of reservoir, over stile & through woods to high point on N. side of reservoir. Walking the perimeter fence meant entering someone's garden, so back same way. | gerrybowes | 20/01/2024 |
Parked on The Drive and squeezed through the same gap as everybody else - grateful for my thinness! | Mark Jackson | 01/04/2023 |
Parked by the road junction and walked down past the school to the aforementioned gap in the fence. It was a tight squeeze for me and I am not a big chested man so it may not work for others. | clivevilla | 13/01/2023 |
Small gap in fence just to left of entrance to reservoir compound. Small enough for me to squeeze through and visit the summit. | PGCE | 25/11/2022 |
Modest hill top rising above 3 separate former coal mines now all turned into country parks, Bateswood, Silverdale and Apedale - the last having a heritage centre and underground mine tours - but its a walk along a drift incline rather than going down a shaft in a cage lift. | Chris Pearson | 24/03/2022 |
Currently a hole in the fence just big enough for svelte baggers. | Wycombe Wanderer | 01/03/2022 |
Parked beyond school, along track to FP, then around reservoir perimeter fence. | PeterD | 10/03/2020 |
From CP as others | M6KIO | 06/02/2020 |
5th top of 7 today, on a loop from Madeley to Keele University, climbing Bar Hill, Madeley Hill, Heighley Hill and Knowl Bank then down via track, passing under M1 then loosely following fp across some very waterlogged fields and through a flock of over-friendly sheep to reach lane, veering off on fp that heads to the North of the reservoir. I skirted perimeter then used a fortuitous tree to investigate natural land within the fenced area. High point in brambly undergrowth and trees as shown on Os maps, I recorded 226 there, Ssw of the reservoir, the land that runs into the reservoir, i recorded as 223m high. Exit via spiky gate then fp heading South for Bank Top Hill... | Dazingdale | 30/11/2019 |
Friendly water services guy let me in. Follow inside of perimeter fence to the left. From high point of path, wooded top is easily accessed. Lots of natural ground inside the perimeter fence. | malcorbett | 10/09/2018 |
Started from CP at visitor centre. With whole fam. Via miners memorial through Watermills Wood and up to resv. Highest I could get was perimeter fence as others. 86m ascent | RoguePulsar | 10/08/2018 |
I was with my family. We saw a reservoir. | speedyclimber | 10/08/2018 |
From Banktop Hill via Black Bank trig. Highest point is wooded mound to W of covered reservoir and annoyingly within reservoir enclosure. Grassy ridge at field/garden boundary S of Reservoir is only slightly lower and higher than anything on the perimeter fence line. Also easy access and good views. | RichardM | 27/02/2018 |
Circumnavigation of compound perimeter found me in a garden - to west - with dog barking ferociously. Another failure. | carole engel | 04/02/2018 |
Very secure reservoir. Had to be satisfied with high point to east of compound. | Campbell Singer | 02/07/2017 |
Past church and up to compound fence | Bramley | 28/04/2017 |
From Banktop Hill. Most of the route along footpaths.
What looked like being just anothwr boring top is actually a stupendous view. Head towards Church Farm. Today I could see beyond the cooling towers of Runcorn. | stig_nest | 31/03/2017 |

Six Tump loop from Keele village (Bar Hill, Madeley Hill, Heighley Hill, Knowl Bank, Alsagers Bank, Banktop Hill). Walked around three accessible sides of reservoir security fence but natural ground inside is probably a little higher. | davidpettit84 | 07/01/2017 |
Parked half on pavement at SJ 80313 48842. Followed PF Easterly-ish through fields and into wood. Got through gap in immature hawthorn hedge to highpoint on East side of compound. On way back passed a film crew filming on 'The Drive'. I should of asked them what the film was called. With Julie. | David Evans | 06/11/2016 |
F/p from WNW past church and up into wood to mast compound. Followed fence round L and R as far as possible, no openings. Overgrown mound at W end within compound and behind houses (may be natural) could not be reached. Not very satisfactory. | Aye Jimmy | 08/03/2016 |
