Parked at the Natural Burial site near the pub. ROW, then through hedge into summit field. | PGCE | 28/06/2023 |
Bike from Sheepbridge. Third hill of day with Cobnar Hill and Highfield. Went to SE end of wood and also to spot height. | steveb2006 | 07/09/2022 |
Parked near pub, along FP found gap in hedge that was possible to get through and over fence into summit field and across it. No horses. | PeterD | 28/07/2022 |
Moortop from GR: SK 38453 78111 via SK 38511 78767. Also checked out the 225 spot height position | ronaldo333 | 25/11/2021 |

Roadside parking as you enter Apperknowle just after the pub. Good track all the way to alongside the summit. Accessing the summit field is problematic as, after negotiating the vegetation and a broken wall, there is a non barbed-wire fence. Howdever, the wire squares are far too small to get a foot into. I built a step over it from stones topped with branches. Still a real challenge. (I left the step for any future users) | moorsman | 09/08/2020 |
Sunny evening run of 2 | davechaffey | 19/09/2019 |
From Hardwick Hill in the dark. Levelish field, accessed with a little difficulty from RoW to W. | Denise | 06/01/2019 |
Track from Apperknowle then over fields to summit field. No horses today. Wandered around the field in the fast approaching night before deciding the high point was by the hedge on the W side as mapped spot height. | RichardM | 06/01/2019 |
Cool, grey and misty walk after parking near the pub. I was able to push through the vegetation at the fence junction to gain entry to the summit field. | Dugswell2 | 09/01/2018 |
Parking: Lay-by just South of Travelers Rest SK38453 78111. Follwed p/f North East from SK38395 78219 to open gateway opposite airstrip SK38511 78767. Then ESE across field edge, carry on to SE corner of wood and also field corner (not sure which is the higher). | David Evans | 07/01/2018 |
Hedges trimmed to a buzzcut. Plenty mud. | Martin R | 14/02/2017 |
Along fp adjacent to Travellers Rest. Getting into field was a real problem due to mesh fence, electric fence and hawthorn hedge to be confronted by a friendly pony. Easier way back across fields to south and into lane back to pub. | Campbell Singer | 02/10/2016 |
An 18km circuit over 4 Tumps from Old Whittington: Hardwick Hill, Moortop, Highfield Hill, Cobnar Hill. Followed field boundaries from gateway near end of airstrip. | davidpettit84 | 13/02/2016 |
As per AJ from Traveller's Rest | Bramley | 09/12/2015 |
Fourth hill of four today on 11mile approx circular walk from Dronfield station with our shared Labradoodle Lexy Rue, having climbed Highfield hill, Cobnar hill and Hardwick hill. From Apperknowle we took an enclosed narrow fp that took us to summit field but because of horses grazing we continued on and around over gate to edge of 'The Brushes' woodland woodland and then i carried Lexy to the summit along field edge after assessing whether horses would become aggressive; fortunately they were ok.Returned to fp then took next fp Nw and then Sw to walk alongside air strip and then lane to Summerley and fp's to verge of Frith wood and then road through Ind estate to reach station. | Dazingdale | 05/10/2015 |
Via the village and greenway near the Traveller's Rest. Lots of very pleasant horses at top. Nice views once clear of trees. | DanHolme | 28/07/2015 |
Path from near pub. Think top is at field edge SW of wood, where hedge becomes a wall at gate. | ngthack | 27/01/2015 |
Followed track from SW near to pub. Small gap in brambles around GR 385786 allowed access to barbed wire fence and then field edge shielded view from farm. | Wheelsy | 24/01/2015 |
From the south, narrow and very secluded f/p starts near pub, dense hedges on either side. Followed it round a LH bend for quite a way until open gateway appeared on R opposite end of landing strip. Short walk along field edge into wood. Summit at top end of wood, field corner near holly tree. Or possibly just to W but in view from farm. | Aye Jimmy | 28/10/2014 |
parked near the pub and along path then nip across to summit. | Adrian | 18/02/2011 |
As a detour on the Dronfield Rotary Walk. | Jake994 | 07/07/2005 |
