Parked partly on grass verge, about 100m W. of RoW - Through kissing gates on RoW & then across to damaged bwf (fallen brach) N. of summit - Stepped over fence & up through mature beech woodland to high point. | gerrybowes | 16/03/2024 |
Decent parking at Burholme Bridge SD65750. Kitcham, Mossthwaite, Fober and Mellor Knolls. Thwarted by an angry herd of cows last attempt of Mellor.. not this time thankfully. Plenty of deer spotted including at summit of Kitcham.
Failed Long Knotts due to 2 farmers on Quads on summit rounding sheep off the hill. Not important enough to interrupt there livelihood, esp with my dog in tow. | Alfa1M | 07/02/2024 |
Parked in the car park at Dunsop Bridge, walked along metalled bridleway / footpath up Whitendale to about SD 655 536, then headed up S ridge to summit of Middle Knoll, descended steeply down to the east and then to farm at Whitendale. Headed up BW to east then along fence north to Baxton Fell. Retraced route and followed ridge on to Burn Fell Trig, and down towards Beatrix. Then FP east to Rough Syke Barn and up to Boarsden Moor. Down through fields to near Boardsen, FP south and then up very difficult Faber Knoll, surrounded by BWFs!! Finally south across footbridge and back along pleasant permissive road / track to Thorneyholme Hall and Dunsop Bridge. A round trip of 23 km with 800m ascent in just under 7 hours. | silveracorn_alan | 05/03/2022 |
3/4 Parked in car park at Dunsop Bridge, along the path by the river then branched off steeply up directly to summit (tussocks rough). One small wall ok to get over (round edge of first one). Down wall edge and up other side (ladder stile) to Kitcham Hill. Back down and over the moor on nice footpath and through parkland over bridges to arrive at Fober Knoll up through trees, down the road back towards Dunsop and veered off right up through wooden gate and along edge of long thin plantation to Boarsden Hill which was a nice late bag in sunshine. Cows were all very placid at the top but do have young so be cautious. Back along riverside path to Dunsop. 4 Hours a nice autumnal walk. | nickywood1 | 16/10/2021 |
From NW side. Large tree has flattened fence. Gate at south end is no use as you climb back into hill top area over a stile. So back out as I went in. | Nick Caunt | 22/11/2020 |
Parked in wide gateway east of Fober Farm. Road not busy. Fence damaged on nw side and easy ascent through pleasant woodland. | Campbell Singer | 12/07/2020 |

Kitcham Hill, Mossthwaite Fell, Fober Knoll from Dunsop Bridge. | RobertP | 21/10/2018 |
WARNING. The field between the footbridge to the SE and the first fence north contains potentially dangerous bullocks. They saw me (about 10 of them) as I entered the field and all ran at me en-masse. Two left the group and came right up to me snorting and nudging me . I hopped (quickly) over the riverside fence but they remained potentially a threat so I walked along the river bed into the next field, First time I have felt worried by cattle, | moorsman | 19/10/2018 |
Parked on wide grass verge just east of Fober Farm at SD 68797 50149. Walked west along road to gate then followed track round to right then over fence at point were fallen tree branch as made the fence much lower. Alternative is to follow the fence round to gate. | David Gradwell | 28/08/2018 |

Parked at roadside just E of Fober farm. Back along road to W and gate leads to overgrown quarry in side of hill. To R is barbed wire fence, either over it or longer, follow round to the right to gates. Summit in large trees with heavy vegetation underfoot. | Aye Jimmy | 01/07/2014 |
Gate on south-western side gives easier access. | rb | 31/01/2014 |
Parked opposite Fober Farm, walked along the road to use the footpath and bridge to have a look at the quarry on the north side of Fober Knoll. There is a pleasant pheasant wood on the top of this TuMP. Gate on its south side and ropey fence around it. | Dugswell2 | 09/12/2013 |
Watch out for the farmer mending his fences before climbing over them. It is possible to get in the back way with lesser hassle. | Martin R | 09/12/2013 |
