As others, from Monkey Forest car park. Over stile at far end of car park, up track to monument & then W. along vehicle track - Left track at SJ 86735 38797 & from there it was possible to follow faint paths/trods through bramble to a more obvious path; this runs along edge of wood to high point by large oak. A good time of year to do it. | gerrybowes | 27/01/2024 |
From the Monkey Forest car park. Over stile and followed track up to monument. Then west on track into wood and thrash through bramble to HP near oak tree near edge of woods. | PeterD | 25/07/2023 |
2nd of 3 hills on a circular from Hanchurch woods car park, continuing on path from Kingswood bank leading to edge of Trentham Monkey forest and then brook climbing up an over Knoll then on forest tracks with a short walk over brambles to high point near Oak tree with another nearby mound of similar height. Continued to monument where I managed to lose the Two Saints Way so roughed it down bank and then over fence onto footpath heading into Tittensor. My route took me to some caves and then on a footpath and track back to the start. | Dazingdale | 11/03/2023 |
Straight up to monument from car park. A man was emptying his bladder onto it and I'm pretty sure he saw me before he started. That was not what I wanted to see. Went through gate and easily to summit on paths. Would be harder in bracken season. | Wycombe Wanderer | 01/03/2022 |
Trentham to Tittensor. Brambly HP accessible via track from NW, however access to nearby monument area & footpaths therein is only permitted June-August (sheep protection). | Smudge | 13/11/2021 |
Parked in layby off A519, SJ 853 399. Circuit of Kingswood Bank and Tittensor Hill (tracks and paths except for final 40m (low brambles). Visited summit and alternative highpoint). | PGCE | 11/11/2021 |
Dreadful undergrowth and the monument being cordoned off made this the worst summit of the year (so far). Nice enough walk up thru' woods from free car pk for Monkey enclosure but not good at HP. With Pete, nice afternoon, worst saved to last, though. | pwheeler | 25/09/2021 |
Monkey Forest Car Park. Over stile on left up to monument then on to battle the undergrowth to the summit | Bramley | 19/07/2021 |

monkey forest car park, up to statue, then into forest through brambles and ferns towards fence. | ironwolf | 19/07/2019 |
From Monkey Forest carpark headed to monument first (better view here) then into woodland to summit through brambles and masses of ferns. | iron_sun | 18/07/2019 |
Trentham Monkey Forest aim to avoid the zoo label by emphasising conservation. Inside the outer perimeter fence the 140 cute, but endangered Barbary monkeys are free to roam at will as the public walk among them. More controversial is the giant statue on the hill top to the 1st Duke of Sutherland and his role in the Highland Clearances. Some say that he was shocked by the conditions his tenants were living in and convinced that the interior of Sutherland could not support these subsistence farmers long term. Following the latest economic and social theories he decided to resettle the population in new villages and crofts along the coastline or assisted emigration to Canada and Australia to make way for large sheep farms inland. The other - and probably more common view - is that he decided it would be more profitable to farm sheep - and the people had to go like it or not. Potato famine and kelp trade collapse awaited many. | Chris Pearson | 06/04/2019 |
From Trentham Gardens car park - also visited the nearby man-made mound | RobertP | 11/11/2018 |

By large oak in The Oaks woodland, part of the Woodlands walks part of Trentham gardens ( free map available from reception in free carpark). Walked on to the impressive monument to George Granville, erected, of course, by grateful tenants and with good views down onto Trentham Gardens themselves. Returned north through Kings Wood on the outside of the Monkey Forest perimeter fence with monkey sightings. There is free access to the Summit and monument. | Denise | 26/12/2017 |
Parked in entrance to Monkey Park as the gates were locked. Over fence and up snowy woodland bank, then past the Duke oF Sutherland's monument and through a small wood to hp near the far side. | clivevilla | 15/12/2017 |

Eight-tump circuit west from Trentham Gardens: Oulton Heath - Coombesdale Hill - The Ridding - Berth Hill - Camp Hill - Whitmore Heath - Hanchurch Hills - Kingswood Bank. Straight up path from car park to monument then through woods to summit at boundary. Descended south to lane. | davidpettit84 | 23/10/2016 |
As previous logger. | Aye Jimmy | 06/03/2016 |
From Trentham Gardens south CP.(monkey cp). Walk up to monument and then into woods to find ridge near field and walked along to get high point hopefully. | mart0797 | 16/01/2016 |
From Monkey Forest cp. Woods closed due to high winds. But as there was only a gentle breeze, I flouted the closure. | ngthack | 18/11/2015 |
From NE, Monkey Forest car park: parking seems free (and facilities closed). Up via monument which is probably 1-2m lower; spot height in wood with (probably artificial) mound nearby a little higher. NB whole area including monument is closed off and has been cleared due to plant disease; presumed highpoint is outside this area. | RHW | 24/01/2015 |
