Dropped Hannah early at airport so started from Visitor Centre at 0630. Revisit to marilyn but added 4 further hills this time. Horrendous conditions, saw nothing, forgot phone/GPS and had a thigh deep burn crossing. Prided myself on navigation with tatty map and defective compass.lordtonult01/07/2023
From Muirshiel Country Park, crossed concrete bridge ~300m NW of the visitors' centre. East Girt Hill first then across to here. On to West Girt Hill, High Corby Knowe, Long Hill, Box Law, Windyrise, Capet Law, Misty Law and return for a 17k round over rough heathery ground after Stake. One saving grace was nearly frozen ground, otherwise would have been a very boggy round. 500th Dodd.jonglew07/12/2022
One hour plus of very heavy rain. No paths. Many many boggy areas with obvious standing water. Knee high heather…..i found it tough walking.VerySlowPlodder11/05/2022
A circuit from the park office of Hill of Stake via Queenside, West & East Girt and Misty Law and back by the Raith Burn. Plenty of heather, bog and tussocks but nothing drastic.sclater28/04/2022
Heavy rain, high winds and fast flowing burns made this walk a bit of an unexpected adventure. We followed a recommended route pinned up the the Visitor Centre noticeboard. From the Visitor Centre to the barytes mine then up to Hill of Stake, West Girt Hill, East Girt Hill and Misty Law. We then made the schoolboy error of heading NE directly back to the Visitor Centre, not realising that the bridge over the River Calder was no longer present. Once we realised this and because the Raith Burn was in full turbulent spate we had to clamber back up its southern bank for a couple of km before finding a narrow enough section to try and wade across thigh deep. Once this proved impossible we re-surfaced, walked upstream even higher and found a spot to leap from. We eventually made it back to the car - wetter, colder and wiser!summitter07/02/2022
Second visit, this time whilst Tump baggingMinto02/12/2021
From Muirshiel on a cold sunny day, up to mine then followed tracks best I could to trig and HP, wet underfoot. On to West Girt, East Girt Hills and Misty Law. Descent easy to follow most of way. Then on to do the 3 north of the visitors centre.PeterD15/10/2021
From Muirshiel country park visitor centre. Up on rhs of the deepish valley to the saddle to North of Hill. Then followed fence line over top & all the way down to Misty Hill.vegibagger13/10/2021
2 of 3: From East Girt Hill. Then back to Muirshiel via the mine. with Karen.ChrisR23/07/2021
From Muirshiel via old barytes mine. Continued round to Misty Law. Beautiful, warm day. Bone dry underfoot.vuirich07/06/2021
From Muirshiel, over the old concrete bridge, then a delightful and easy walk contouring high above the Raith Burn where the slope is easy, easy grass, any tussocks well spaced with dry ground between. Once the hillside gets heathery, sheep trods follow the grassy areas to a fence. Soon after this ends, across the stream to get on the W side of Wee Burn where an ATV track and then a path leads to the grassy hillside, climbed directly and easily.Gill13/05/2021
Solo. From Muirshiel Visitor Centre along track to the disused barytes mine. Went southwards on a bit of a path to the col between points 473m and 493m. Across the heather to Hill of Stake. Continued over East Girt Hill and Misty Law back to the visitor centre. A nice sunny day with good view of the hills to the north.pwbellarby30/04/2021
With E. From Muirshiel Visitor Centre took track to mine then direct to summit. Trig point clearly visible once above mine. Recent dry spell had made walk across the moor much easier than previous reports have warned. Return same route. A dry but cold day.Beeliner30/04/2021
misty law third visit, east girt hill second visit, high corby knowe, long hill, west girt hill, hill of stake second visit from the CP at muirshiel country park.robertphillips23/09/2020
From Muirshiel out to mine then bit of a path followed by heather bashing until final pull to Hill of Stake. Path of sorts from there past East Girt Hill right on to Misty Law. Descended across heather to junction of Raith Burn and River Calder - crossed both easily and up to car.SS12/07/2020
Lochwinnoch to Largs across Muirshiel via Hill of Stake and several minor tops. Running.Iloveducks09/07/2020
Great day out with B.B. Sodden ground. Dry and sunny. Tea break at container bothy.Play2End22/03/2020
Parked at Lochwinnoch cemetery at about 9am walked up steep single track road past Linthills. Keep walking up this road until it ends at a private gate. Climb over wall here on right, then walk uphill through fields on very faint track. Higher up the track improves but never great. Up through isolated moorland eventually brings you to Misty Law on your left, so hopped up here, then navigated through thick cloud and very boggy ground to East Girt Hill then Hill of Stake which has trig point. Then NW over the 493m Burnt Hill (not Burnt Hill to west with trig point) before dropping N and then NE to get to the mine, and walked all the way back to the car via the mine track and public road. 15.3 miles, 6.5 hours - tough going at times!mattymatt23/09/2019
The closest marilyn to my home town finally climbed. Cycled from house to Old Largs Road HP then 13.2km walk visiting HoS and Creuch Hill.iangpark08/07/2019
From the free car park at Muirshiel Country Park. Track to old mine then up over boggy heathery ground to hill marked 473m. Followed fence to trig. With Gavin Rees.Dangerous Dave09/06/2019
From Clydemuirshiel carpark, with Lily and Rosie, to the old mines then followed a moorland track/ ATV track to the trig point. Wonderful view of north Ayrshire, Cumbraes, south Bute and Arran. Sunny with occasional light sleet/ snow. 3 hoursalexmaclennan02/04/2019
From the Muirshiel visitor centre, following 4x4 track around to mine at NS 282648. Followed intially good path beside stream, but it only lasted for about a third of the way before inevitably petering out in wet ground, then an arduous heather slog until near the final cone. Returned on a more direct line to pt 473, finding an intermittent ATV track up from the intervening hollow, but it also petered out in heather. A reasonably well defined trod from pt 473 to Queenside Hill, but then trackless again down and back to the VC.Isbjorn02/03/2019
Third visit, 6hr round trip over frozen moor from Blairpark via numerous intervening bumps.agentmancuso02/01/2019
A loop to the Hill of Stake, East Girt Hill & Misty Law from Muirshiel Country Park.Chris Mac25/08/2018
Reached from muirshiel country park on a eight mile walk taking four and a half hours in poor conditions. Getting to the mine is not a problem but from the mine to Hill of stake is pathless moorland where navigation is difficult if attempting on anything else other than a clear day.WAYNE ROWLETT23/07/2018
Bagged Blaerloch hill in the morning, Hill of Stake in the afternoon. From Muirshiel country park. Sunny and warm. Straight up Queenside Hill after crossing the bridge. Previous night rain had waterlogged the bog! Spent most of the time in ankle deep water. Rough going as I didn't find a good path so followed a few ATV tracks as best as I could.Jhimmy13/05/2018
Circuit from Muirshiel Visitor Centre via disused Barytes MinePaulineD01/04/2018
A round of eleven hard won hills from the road to the west. Terrain a nightmare and twelve hours of non stop rain before leaving turned it into a quagmire. The rain continued all the time I was out. I don't want too many days like this!thenomad20/11/2017
From Muirshiel via Queenside Hill.Chris Peart15/11/2017
From Muirshiel, over the old bridge and up towards and slightly left of Queenside Hill.Topographer5726/06/2017
From Muirshiel Park. Forded the River Calder by the unsafe bridge, very low after a dry spell. Faint path above Raith Burn, but not easy walking across quite a steep gradient. Across White Grain Burn well up from its confluence, then tussocky grass to the fence line joined at the col west of East Girt Hill. Fantastic summit views : Ailsa Craig, Arran, Bute, Islay, Jura, Argyll, Cowal, Ben More (?), Ben Lawers (?), Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire. Took a slightly more northerly line back for easier footing.Owen B19/05/2017
Muirsheil Country Park - Miners Track contouring Queenside Muir - from mine crossed the open moor to summit of Hill of Stake (& trig) - the top of Renfrewshire - back across the open moor using single conifer as a guide - back along miners track to the Muirsheil Country Park with a detour to the summit of Windy Hill before we left.briandavies28/04/2017
Tucked into a bag of Hobgoblin spit roasted steak crisps up here on Hill of Stake as a little treat for reaching 500 HuMPs. Walked in from the west over Burnt Hill and through the bogs and was certainly quite glad when I eventually reached the trig.Alex C07/04/2017
Start car park Muirshiels County Park, track to mine, rough and boggy ground to Hill of Stake then onto East Grit Hill, Misty Law and back to car park, 5hrs about 8 miles, with Chris.Hutchie06/03/2017
From Muirshiel Country Park, along Miners Track before striking up Queenside Hill and along to trig point. Return via the Baryte mines and track.N.Morters08/10/2016
10th hill of 13 today on an epic route from Largs to Lochwinnoch, climbing Jock's Hill, Rigging Hill, Paton's Hill, Feuside Hill, Irish Law, Black Law, Windyrise, Box Law, Long Hill, High Corby Knowe and West Girt Hill. A relatively easy climb up to the head of the valley with the way ahead clearly seen.Dazingdale22/09/2016
M and O from the visitor centre. Watch thoise potholes on the way up the road. Direct route over Queenside Hill - mossy moorland - and return by the barytes mine. Glorious day. Hot. O drinking from every stream. Views slightly obscured in the haze.Martin6603/06/2016
Parked at the end car park in Muirshiel Country Park then took the track towards the mine to cross the River Calder at the second bridge where I then headed directly for Misty Law which involved a steep crossing of the Rathy Burn. Then onto East Girt Hill, contoured around HoS to West Girt Hill before having a break at Hill of Stake where there was a lovely cooling breeze on a very warm sunny day. A direct return route to the bridge via an easier/higher crossing of the Rathy Burn then on to bag the pretty Windy Hill before returning to the car, a bit hot and dehydrated.Dugswell201/06/2016
Parked as soon as we drove into Muirshiel Country Park walked from there. Realised that we could have driven on quite a bit and added a mile onto this walk - but not a problem on a lovely afternoon. Took the path to the disused mines, then south over heath and bog (but not too bad considering how wet it has been) to the summit. Glorious views, especially to the west. Back via queenside hill - straightforward. 8 miles.callumorr05/04/2016
With Jenx from Muirshiel visitor centre - closed for the winter from October the loos are still open and good CP. At last a hill up here without a windmill cluster on top. Used the track to old barytes mine but seems an unnecessary diversion esp as the track from mines is poor. Came back along ridge leading to Queenside Hill on a good path and descended to bridge over the aforesaid track, a better line up and down.nordicstar25/11/2015
An attractive starting point. Probably better not to use the mine track unless looking for a circular route.jenx25/11/2015

jamie, chiara n rocky.. parked at Lochwinnoch cemetery. walked to misty law then hill of stake.. Good weatherJamiePhillips2721/04/2015
Completed off train from Lochwinnoch with bikes. Ascended via Murshiel VC to end of mine track, dragged bikes over moor to summit, pathless and tiring. Good views all round. Faint, boggy path on descent, sometimes rideable to Misty Law, then picked up track down to Lochwinnoch.quadbarrel21/03/2015
Car park at Muirshiel Country Park- Along track to shelter at old Barytes mine - S. to hillock in col between spot heights 493m & 473m - SW across trackless moor to summit trig point. (PM)gerrybowes17/07/2014
Parked at Muirshiel C.P. and followed the track to the mine with GB. Then a hard walk through heather and boggy conditions to the summit.bolton17/07/2014
