Parked at RH bend of Ramper Road and West Lane, up the path, across a pasture and then a little up through woods. | clivevilla | 09/11/2023 |
parked at corner then ROW to summit | grumpy | 18/01/2023 |
2 of 3 after starting in maltby. After castle hill followed paths through woods till came to gap in hedges near the summit. Picked near the field edge as high point | The-Z-Man | 22/05/2022 |
bagged with sean | jordanwalmsley1987 | 22/05/2022 |
Parked at corner to NW. ROW, then path to summit. | PGCE | 15/03/2022 |
Was suprised the high point is actually comprised of magnesian limestone, a knoll on top of coal measures. Small manky quarry and bmx bike possibilities nearby. | Nick Canute | 08/02/2022 |
From Carr lane | Nicky C | 10/04/2021 |
I'm 'doing' all the Beacons - these are normally easy to access (someone had to get the fuel up there and be ready to light the fire) and with excellent views (you want you beacon to be seen) - Not at all sure about the naming of this one. The given GR is in a field, inside the 150m ring contour to the West of the trig pillar for Carr Hill (150m). Unclear whether this is the high point or whether the Western field boundary/woodland is slightly higher (see note from previous visitor regarding earlier trig pillar location). The OS map has Beacon Hill to the North of Carr Hill, inside a 145m contour ring. Whether this location or the unnamed summit referenced by the given GR would have made the best place to put a beacon - tricky to tell due to the obscuring hedges and fences. | M3WDD | 17/08/2020 |
Beacon Hill from GR: SK 50708 90236 OS six inch map (1890's) has a trig marker in wood west of field corner c SK 50944 90009 within 150 metre contour. | ronaldo333 | 17/06/2020 |
Wandered along field edge and into woods. Highest point unclear. | victimofmathema | 11/05/2019 |
From junc Carr & Bib Lanes. Walked road to SK 5125 9002, then field margin. Wandered around that 150m contour, but tricky to know precisely where the HP is. | jonglew | 11/04/2019 |
Visited behind trig, woodland and field. | David Evans | 25/03/2019 |
From junction through quarry area to field. Into bushes and probably went to high point. With Oscar. | catman | 28/01/2019 |
With Catman. | oscarrosie | 28/01/2019 |
On run from near Fordoles farm, after Foredoles Head. | stever | 19/03/2018 |
Bike ride from Wadworth, including Foredoles Head and Fanfield. | IanHHill | 15/02/2018 |
Up field edge to woodland at edge of scarp | vegibagger | 15/01/2018 |
Parked at junction and followed edge of fields into wood. | Ramblingpaul | 24/10/2017 |
Impossible to establish the highest point by eye as many contenders exist. It is not possible to compare the highest point within the 150m contour in the field to the west of the road and the field behind the trig. Visited 4 possibilities just in case the exact point is later established. For the field, parking is possible on the bend west of Carr and for the trig on the adjacent road junction. | moorsman | 26/09/2017 |
Quick jog up the edge of the field, easy enough but sounds of shooting from several directions made it a bit disconcerting. Came across a large group of men with dogs and shotguns on the road heading back, not sure what the occasion was! | the_adam | 03/12/2016 |
Cereal crop just harvested. | arranc | 30/08/2016 |
Followed the edge of the woods to the high point, then went in search of trig point but couldn't spot it - must be buried really deep in the undergrowth. | Wheelsy | 31/07/2016 |
As others along hedge to NW corner of field . HP Just in woods.
Also visited trig which was disappearing into the undergrowth. | PeterD | 20/06/2016 |
After pillar walked over road and followed hedge line to the area which is possibly higher. Think it might be. | Dusty | 23/05/2016 |
2nd hill of three and my penultimate Rotherham tump on an 18mi + walk from Conisbrough to Rotherham with Lexi Rue my partner's Labradoodle. After briefly circumnavigating the inner mound to Conisbrough castle we climbed Foredoles head, stopped for lunch on a grassy field on the outskirts of Maltby before climbing up to Hooeton Levitt where an attractive path heads upto the village of Carr before taking track to the trig (higher ground just before it) before going on to explore the high ground in the field, continuing to Nw edge where i climbed over brambles into an area of immature Hawthorn bushes. I got a gps reading of 157m; this appears to be the true summit. We broke out onto a track that took us to a fp past a quarry and then took another footpath over the M18 headed towards Whiston and eventually Canklow Bank. | Dazingdale | 21/04/2016 |
Good parking at the junction area. Visited trig and then crossed over road to other field. Took in all possible high spots, but highest point seems to be just in woodland at N/W corner of field. | SEMC | 16/04/2016 |
Approached from Carr. Visited trig point and then round edge of field over the road. HP appears to be in the hedge at north west end of field as you enter the wood. No mud whatsoever!! | Campbell Singer | 25/03/2016 |
From north west through muddiest field ever. Was after work and I then fell over into mud and hadn't put overtrousers on over my suit trousers. Will they ever be clean again? | Mark Sims | 10/03/2016 |
Visited this one on a pleasant walk around Carr and Brookhouses...visited the two high spots just to make sure | steven ruffles | 05/02/2016 |
With Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. Highest point is probably in the corner of the field, in the trees. In the field by pylon similar height. Visited trig too. | Dangerous Dave | 13/12/2015 |
From road junction. Visited ground beyond trig to make sure. | ngthack | 09/09/2015 |
On round trip from Worksop. Approached up minor road from Brookhouse, and onto lane. Left continuing along lane to reach Thircroft and South Anston. | Moorponder | 20/07/2015 |
Rotherham completion - ground behind trig does look higher than field across road | Bramley | 06/03/2015 |
Bagged the trig, field and opposite field and field corner probably the highest point seen on a late November sunny afternoon with Martin Richardson. This completed our set of 5 Rotherham TUMPs. | Dugswell2 | 22/11/2014 |
Second completion of the day - double hic. Please dugswell no more excitement, I cannot take it. | Martin R | 22/11/2014 |
Easy parking on top of hill at junction of road & tracks. The high point may be in field behind the trig rather than the one on other side of the road. | Aye Jimmy | 23/10/2014 |
Parked just opposite field. Had a good walk round to try and cover all potential high points. | bolieve | 16/08/2014 |
From Carr Lane (SK 514899). Walk around Maltby area. Difficult to decide on exact summit location, as the field is rather level. | Richard Gunn | 07/12/2013 |
summit is stony knoll in fld, minimal view, TP not found (was dark). cross field from road/tk jct adjacent | RHW | 03/02/2002 |
