Parked by tower in Admirals Crest. Visited both highpoints near the tower. Tower has been restored and can be climbed on a pre-booked guided tour: https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/keppel-tourPGCE25/11/2023

Parked at Richmond Park and visited trig point before heading up to column via Thundercliffe Grange.Wheelsy23/12/2019
Parked at the column. Ground by gate leading into field seems as high as anywhere.jonglew11/04/2019

Last of the day on 34mile cycle from Sheffield in disappointingly grey and damp weather. The 41.5m column is looking a little sad with corset like banding to hold it together. A local told me he'd climbed it with his dad when a lad and there are plans for renovation but he wasn't 'holding his breath' High point of hill is by gate and Kepple's Field sign to SW.RichardM22/11/2018

Admiral's Crest, the road leading up to the column, leads directly off the main road to the south. Parking alongside the monument which is about 30m away.moorsman09/05/2017
Another very short walk with almost no ascentRobertP22/01/2017
Last hill of the evening, parked the car and walked the few metres up to the gate. Feels like cheating really! Not the most attractive tower, but a nice starry night made up for itthe_adam29/09/2016

Short walk from road. Two monuments in quick succession. The Marquis of Rockingham liked his towers. HP either by stile or gate.PeterD21/06/2016

3rd of 6 hills today on a 20+ mile walk drom Sheffield station to Conisbrough with Lexi Rue my partner's Labradoodle. We climbed Parkwood Springs and Wincobank before taking the road to Concord park. We took a N Easterly path into Woodley wood before following the Sheffield Country walk Nw to the road where we took Grange lane under Railway and the M1 before dropping onto the Transpennine trail. We followed this until we were in a direct line of sight with Keppel's column and rhen fought through gorse and scrub and marshy scrub to reach the A629. We turned Nw for about 50 m before walking up Admiral's crest to reach gate and the theoretical summit. I think highest point is along fenceline or a separate gate about 20metres away. Impressive column! Descent Ne on on path into Scholles Coppice, meeting the Rotherham round walk and following this to Dog Kennel Pond.Dazingdale12/04/2016
Turn into Admirals Crest and practically drive to the monument, a most impressive summit cairn.Campbell Singer25/03/2016
Parked up and walked around this massive Georgian tower. With Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu & Coel. Alfie stayed in the van.Dangerous Dave20/03/2016
The column was built in the late-18th century to commemorate the acquittal of the court-martialled Admiral Augustus Keppel after the indecisive naval Battle of Ushant (a naval battle against the French fought 100 miles out from the mouth of the English Channel). The column visibly bulges due to an entasis correction,(apparently tall buildings built with straight edges don't look straight from a distance and so a mathematically calculated curvature is built in to the design. In this case the curve is wrong as funding problems reduced the height so it now appears to bulge!Chris Pearson27/07/2015

Parked by the roadside, then a 30 second walk to the gate which seems to be the highest point.bolieve06/04/2015
A large phallic image in memory of a naval warmonger. With dugswellMartin R22/11/2014
Highest point seems to be path near gate to Keppel's Field but the column is well worth a look with Martin Richardson.Dugswell222/11/2014
Easy parking just off main road at Keppel Heights, short walk to Column. Highest point may be path near gate to Keppel's Field just before info board.Aye Jimmy30/07/2014
