Bike ride taking in Knowl Bank - didn't enter the stable yard as no one in view to ask permission | Paul Digard | 19/03/2023 |
HP is East side of road- est GR is on W of road. Brief parking OK. Friendly welcome from owner chatting in yard; recalled previous bagger. Wandered around yards; indeterminate HP in disturbed ground. Large horse stables so can understand why they like you to seek permission. | Denise | 14/02/2023 |
Tentatively enter the yard where a couple of women are chatting, we explain why we are there and ask if we can visit the high point. The younger woman looks completely mystified but the other fully understands saying others have visited for the same reason and we are welcome to walk around. All very level, we settle for the gateway between inner and outer yards. All exceedingly friendly which made for a great end to the day. | RichardM | 14/02/2023 |
The top is in the farmyard on the opposite side of the road to where it is shown on the map. I knocked at the door and the delightful farmer's wife and gave me permission. I then met the farmer and the son who were equally friendly. I did walk around the back of the barn too but the summit appears to be in the concrete yard, barring a great deal of earthmoving having happened during the building of the farm. A great contrast to Bar Hill where I was thrown off very abruptly. | clivevilla | 13/01/2023 |
Evening visit via fields from the north. Easy parking near M6, and easy bank into first field. Got above 140m contour, but didn't venture further into the yard. | PGCE | 25/11/2022 |
Almost a drive over but we did get out of the car to take a look. With Pete. | pwheeler | 15/10/2022 |
Big sign now at front Visitors by appointmnet only.(Health Precaution Measures). Covid and GOML a perfect match. No welocme here .. unless you wish to rent a stable from them. I wonder if you could rent one for 10 mins? I guess not so respected their privacy and made do with a roadside wander and chatting to a puffing cyclist about hills getting steeper as you get older. | Chris Pearson | 24/03/2022 |
Nice sunset to end the day. | Wycombe Wanderer | 01/03/2022 |

4th tump of 7 today on a loop from Madeley to Keele University, climbing Bar Hill, Madeley Hill and Heighley hill, heading North along field edge then over Bwf to fp passing lovely large Oak, onto lane then turning aptly onto Knowl Bank road and then upto summit buildings. Recorded 143m immediately beside barn. Descended track to pass under M1 then series of water-logged fields to gain lane heading for Alsager Bank... | Dazingdale | 30/11/2019 |
Grounds of private farm. Got as close as possible near driveway. | RoguePulsar | 13/07/2018 |
Baggers no longer welcome - an invasion of their privacy. Asked and was allowed access to front courtyard but not the barns - didn't want strangers wandering about - OK understand.
Previously did attempt a stealth bag, as it was dark - thru' hedge, under fence and then electric tape (to west of top) but barns lit and heard a car door slam, so thought better of it. Probably best to satisfy your self with the contour ring. | carole engel | 04/02/2018 |
Lady who owns the farm was very chatty and gave me directions to the hp which is round the back of the barns. Interested in what aTump actually is. Seemed to be happy to be helpful if people ask permission or let her know what they are doing. | Campbell Singer | 02/07/2017 |
With Cabe. Miserable GOML character confronted me. | simon and co | 29/04/2017 |
From Alsagers bank. A bizarre experience.. walking under the m6. From here I headed direct up to the farm having chatted to two fellows using a digger. The large barn seems pretty much on the summit. | stig_nest | 31/03/2017 |
As for RHW | arranc | 19/02/2017 |
Six Tump loop from Keele village (Bar Hill, Madeley Hill, Heighley Hill, Knowl Bank, Alsagers Bank, Banktop Hill). Walked a short distance up drives of house and barn conversion to large areas of flat ground that seemed as high as anywhere else. | davidpettit84 | 07/01/2017 |
Nobody about so wandered around the stable blocks at the back. As I was going out an elderly couple were surprised to see me. I started to explain and they said 'we've had one of your lot here before - he came twice'. | David Evans | 14/11/2016 |
Owners didn't appear to be home so wandered up side of house into yard, when lady from adjacent premises came rushing up to see what I was doing. Explained - after a fashion - seemed reassured. | Aye Jimmy | 25/03/2016 |
Friendly owners. No problem bagging this one. | Alan Caine | 29/11/2015 |
